Gr. H. ASCHENBACH.
NIPPLE HOLDER N0. 429,832. Patented. June 1o, 1890.
WVG/naamw co.. moro- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORG HENRY ASCI-IENBACH, OF IVASHINGTON, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO ALBERT L. JACKSON, OF SAME PLACE.
NIPPLE-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 429,832, dated June 10, 1890.
Application iiled October 29, 1889. Serial No. 328,523. (No model.)
.To a/ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORG HENRY AscH- ENBACH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Washington,in the District of Columbia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in NipplenHolders; and I do here by declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same. My invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in nipple-holders- The object of the invention is to obtain a device of the character described which will form a positive and certain guide for the nipple when inserted into the stock of the screwthreading machine, which will enable it to be used with nipples of various sizes, and the construction of which will be such as to render the removal of the nipple from its holder convenient. A
To the accomplishment of the above the invention consists in certain novel parts and combination of parts, as will be hereinafter fully described and specifically claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in Which- Y Figure l is a longitudinal section of the holder and the shank used in connection therewith; Fig. 2, a view in perspective of the holder detached from its shank, and Fig. 3 a similar view of the shank in modified form.
In the drawings, A represents a holder, which consists of a piece provided with a screw-threaded bore and of such a size as to fit snugly within the stock of a screw-threading machine. At its forward end the bore of this holder or guide is made to correspond to the size of the particular nipple with which it is to be used, it being my intention to man ufacture and suppl37 the trade with a set of such holders or guides, one for each of the standard-sized nipples. The bore at the rear end of this holder or guide is adapted to fit the end of the shank B in connection with which it is to be used, and, as this bore to accommodate such shank must always be larger than the bore for the nipple, a shoulder a is formed within the holder or guide, against which the end of the shank iinpinges When the parts are in position for use, as shown in Fig. '1.
The yshank B is screw-threaded at onev end and adapted to be secured into the rear end of the guide or holder A a sufficient distance to impinge against the shoulder of the guide, as f bove described, and to form a shoulder against which the inner end of the nipple impinges when it is in a position to be loperated upon by the screw-threading device.
The shank shown in Fig. l is adapted for use in connection with holders arranged to accommodate the three smaller sizes of the standard-sized nipples, and for the three larger sizes of such nipples a larger-sized shank may be used, or, preferably, the shank shouldl be constructed as shown in Fig. 3, wherein it is shown as screw-threaded upon both ends, the different ends of such shank being of dierent sizes. In this way a set of tools constructed on my plan would consist of six holders or guides and a single shank, one end of such shank being designed for use in connection with three of such holders and the opposite end in connection with the remaining three.
' Upon the outer face of the holder or guide A, and at the rear end thereof, I provide a holding-surface D, which may be made in any suitable manner, such as the square-shaped or four-sided projection shown in the drawings, by means of which the ready detachment of the guide or holder from its shank is provided for.
By the use of a device of the character named, constructed as herein described, it will be` seen that a nipple-holder which will be simple in construction, and which will form a positive guide for the nipple when inserted in the stock of a screw-threading machine, is obtained, and, further, by having the holder or guide detachable from its shank the nipple may be more readily removed from its holder.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new therein, and that for which I desire to secure Letters Patent, is-- 1f The combination, with a nipple-holder provided at one end with a screw-threaded bore to receive the nipple and at the opposite end with a screw-threaded bore for the IOO shank, of n screw-threaded shank, the holder serving' as n guide in the stock, and the shank and holder demehahly connected, as set forth. The Combination, with :L nipple-holder 5 provided at one end with n screw-threaded bore for the nipple and at the opposite end with a screw-threaded bore for a shank, and also provided with a holdingurfaee, of n screw-threaded shank, the holder serving' :is a. guide in the stock, and the shank and holder detziehably Connected, as set forth.
3. The combination, with a nipple-holder provided with :i sere\\'threaded bore for the nipple and a screw-threaded bore for a shank 15 and n shoulder formed on the inner end of the shank-bore, of n screw-threaded shank, the holder serving is n guidein the stock and the shank as a Shoulder for the nipple, as set forth.
4. As anewartieleof manufacture, a. shank for nipple holders, provided with Screwthreaded ends of different eireumferel'lces, as set forth.
In testimony whereof Ialix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORG 11E-N RY ASCIIENBACH. Titnessesr fEo. H. PARMELEE, WILLIAM A. REHM.
