LEWVIS IVITKOWSKY, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BUTTON-FASTEN ER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 426,350, dated April 22, 1890.
Application filed December 2'7, 1889. Serial No.335,l29. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, Lewis WITKowsKY, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Button-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in button-fasteners; and the invention consists in the details of construction set forth in the following specification and claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of a buttonfastener sectioned along a; 00, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a section along y y, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a button-fastener with the hook swung open on its hinge. Fig. 4c is an inverted plan view of a button-fastener.
In the drawings, the letter A indicates a base or washer, having attaching prongs or points B. The hook C has its shank D passed through a suitable eye in the washer, and the shank-head E prevents the hook becoming disengaged from the washer, while leaving the hook 0 free to turn or swivel.
The eye or shank F of the button G is engaged by the hook O and secures the button in place. The swivel-hook 0 enables the button to be readily turned or twisted by a button-hook or otherwise without risk of twisting the button off.
The washerA is arched or recessed, as sh own, so that when the washer is secured in place as, for example, to the leather or material H of a shoe-a certain space is left between the material H and the washer, thus leaving the shank-head E and hook 0 free to swivel or it is readily put in place without requiring any skilled labor for such putting in place, and a button can be readily secured to or removed from the fastener without its being necessary to disturb the fastener or the ma terial to which the fastener is attached. If one or more buttons should become chafed or injured, they can thus be readily removed and replaced by others whenever desired.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- l. A button-fasten er consisting of an arched washer having rigidly-attached prongs to enter the material from the outside and secure said washer thereto, a hook comprising a closed eye for engaging and retaining a buttonshank, and a shank having a head and swiveled in the washer, substantially as described.
2. The button-fastener herein described, consisting of a swivel-hook C, having a hinge or joint I, in combination with a base or washer A, having attaching-pron gs, said base or washer being arched or recessed to give room for the swiveling of the hook 0, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
LEWIS \VITKOVVSKY.
