CHARLES e. KREBAUM,
PATENT OFFICE.
OF HAVANA, ILLINOIS.
SAFETY ATTACHMENT FOR WATCHES.
SPEQIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 403,943, dated May 28, 1889.
Application filed August 2, 1888.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, CHARLES G. KREBAUM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Havana, in the county of Mason and State of Illinois, have invented new and useful Improvements in Safety Attachments for W'atches, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to improvements in safety attachments for watches.
Heretofore devices for preventing the withdrawal of watches from pockets have been constructed disk-shaped,with scalloped edges; but difficulty and inconvenience have resulted from their bulkiness, which makes them crowd the pocket, and their liability to loose their hold upon the pocket when pulled upon, as the edge of the disk is forced down, thereby forming aconvex surface, which presents comparatively little resistance and allows the watch to be withdrawn very easily from the pocket.
The object of the present invention is to obviate the above objections and provide a watch-protector of simple and cheap construction, that will not interfere with the opening of the cases of the watch nor wear the pockets.
The invention consists in the novel combination and arrangement of the parts hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and pointed out in the claim hereto appended.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a watch-protector constructed in accordance With this invention, showing it applied to a watch. Fig. 2 is a plan view of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a bottom plan View of the protector. Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the watch-protector itself.
Referring to the drawings by letter, A designates a watch-protector constructed of rubber 01" other suitable material and designed to be placed upon the stem of a watch, 13, to
Serial No. 281,738. (No model.)
prevent theft: by engaging the sides of the pocket, and thereby prevent the withdrawal of the watch. The watch-protector A has a generally conical form, and is round at the top a, which is hollowed out and concave to provide an upturned rim, a, which is extended outward at suitable points, whereby one or more laterally-protruding guards, a are formed, which engage the sides of the pocket. The number of these guards a may be varied. By this construction the rubber or similar material, when an attempt is made to pull the watch from the pocket, engages the sides of the pocket, and is compressed instead of being bent down, whereby the watch is securely retained in the pocket.
The watch-protector surrounds the stem of the watch and fits against the adjacent parts, and lies close to said stem, the ring of the watch fitting in notches a and does not interfere with the opening of the cases, and its smooth sides do not wear out the pockets, as would be the case were they scalloped or corrugated.
From the foregoing description and the accompanying drawings the construction, operation, and advantages of the invention will readily be understood.
Having described my invention, I claim The herein-described watch-protector, constructed of rubber or similar material and adapted to fit around the stem of a watch, and having a concave or hollowed top to provide a rim, a, the latter having the outwardprojecting guards a to engage the side of the pocket, and the notches a substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES G. KREBAUM.
