SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 408,549, dated August 6, 1889. Application filed November 28, 1888. Serial No. 292,140, (Specimens.)
To all whom it 7oz-ty concern,.-
Be it known that we, FREDERICK WALLING- TON PEANDER SWINBOENE and LATIMER PEANDEE SWINBOENE, manufacturers, subjects of the Queen of Greatritaimboth residing at Nos. 33 and 34 St. Andrews Hill, Queen Victoria Street, London, E. C., England, have invented an Improved Process in the Treatment of Hides or Skins to Obtain Gelatinous Matter, of which the following is a specification.
In the specicationof an English patent i granted to George Philbrick Swinborue, dated the 25th day of November, 1847, No. 11,975, a process is described for obtaining gelatinous matter, consisting in first cutting up hides or skins into thin pieces, treating them with hot water, and afterward evaporating and drying the educt. This process has been largely and continuously used since the date of the patside should be sufficiently deep to remove the grain and hair-roots and that on the iesh side to remove the veins and other impurities.

What we claim is- The herein-described process of obtaining gelatinous matten'consisti ng in iirst removing superficial layers from the hair side and from the flesh side of hide or skin, treating the middle portion (cut into small pieces Or other- Wise) with hot Water, and then evaporating the educt.
