IMPROVED PISTOL-HOLSTER.
Specification forming part of' Letters Patent No. 38,213, dated April 2l, 1863.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, AUGUSTUS A. BEN- NETT, of Cincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Pistol-Holsters 5 and I do hereby declare the Iollowing to be a full, clear, and exact d escription thereof, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making part of this specification.
My invention relates to an arrangement of oblique flap, which, in the act of sheathing the pistol, closes automatically over the same, the construction ofthe flap being such as to allow an instant withdrawal of the weapon Without manipulation of the flap or undoing any special fastening.
A represents the sheath or pocket of a pistolholster. B is a leather or other suitable flap, so formed and secured to the sheath as to fold in the represented oblique manner over the mouth of the holster, leaving a side opening, C, through which the weapon can be instantly withdrawn. A steel-plate spring, D,
(in one or more pieces,) secured by its lower end to the holster, and curved obliquely over the 'llap in the manner represented, causes the llap to be self-closi ng over the pistol, immediately following the insertion of the latter, thus dispensing with any special fastening, while completely protecting the pistol from injury or accidental dislodgment, said security being combined with ready accessibility and instantaneous Withdrawal ot' the weapon,with a single motion of one hand,in the manner explained.
I claim as a new article of manufacture- The holster A, closed automatically by the oblique flap B and metallic spring D, so as to combine security with facility of use, in the manner set forth.
