591,453 10/1897 Chickering 211 45 4 Claims, 1 Drawing Figure WALLPAPER DISPLAY APPARATUS This invention relates to wallpaper display systems and, more specifically, to an improved display arrangement for presenting a laminated, non-curling configuration of two wallpaper specimens.
It is an object of the present invention to provide improved wallpaper display apparatus.
More specifically, an object of the present invention is the provision of a display arrangement which is readily constructed; which can depict two different paper samples; and which is non-curling and non-ravelling.
The above and other objects of the present invention will become clear from a detailed description of a specific illustrative embodiment thereof, presented hereinbelow in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, which depicts wallpaper display apparatus illustrating the principles of the present invention.
Referring now to the drawing, there is shown specific illustrative wallpaper display apparatus comprising first and second wallpaper sheets 11 and 13 of conforming size and shape. The wallpaper members 11 and 13 may be of any well-known construction thereof, e.g., paper, vinyl with cloth or paper backing, or the like. For purposes of concreteness it will henceforth be assumed that the paper has a vinyl outer surface. The two wallpaper sheets are secured by a flexible adhesive, i.e., an adhesive which remains flexible when cured. One such fully flexible adhesive with a mold inhibitor comprises the animal based material vended by United Resin Products, lnc., Sutton Street, Brooklyn, N.Y., under its trade style 6019.
A wallpaper material securing top cover 17 is adhered to the two outer wallpaper surfaces, as at adhesive areas 19, to physically secure the paper samples together for display suspension. The adhesive 19 advantageously comprises a pure resin material which bonds the cover flap 17, for example, formed of a cardboard, to the vinyl outer surfaces of the wallpaper by a partial vinyl dissolving mechanism, it being appreciated that many adhesives destroy vinyl without causing bonding thereto. As a'general proposition, both sides of the top cover 17 will typically have a manufacturers logo and message imprinted thereon.
A hangar like member 20, with a top hook 23 and transverse bar portion 21 disposed within the fold of the top member 17 is employed as a direct suspension implement. That is, the member 20 is secured over an orthogonal running bar 25. Typically, many patterns of wallpaper samples such as that depicted in FIG. 1 are suspended via the bar 25 such that a user simply ambulates along the bar 25 examining the specimens, each side of each sample presenting a different wallpaper pattern.
It is observed at this point that the wallpaper display arrangement shown in FIG. 1 is non-curling, i.e., the
two facing wallpaper specimens and the intervening flexible adhesive prevent the paper from rolling in any directionan event which substantially and invariabley occurs with respect to independent wallpaper samples by reason of the different physical properties of the vinyl and paper backing laminate layers. It is also observed that the adhesive arrangement is non-ravelling since the adhesive secures the edges of the composite laminate of FIG. 1 together.
In summary then, the wallpaper display arrangement shown in the drawing has a pleasing esthetic appearance; is non-curling and non-ravelling; and presents wallpaper specimens in a manner which provides ready examination of relatively large paper specimens in a manner convenient to the observer.
The hook 23 may be replaced as a specimen mounting member by a projecting right angle end portion 27 of bar 21, shown in dashed line in FIG. 1, the vertical portion of the member 27 being secured within aligned apertures 33 and 35 of two parallel orthogonally running specimen mounting members 29 and 31. With this form of construction, the composite specimen will pivot about the vertical element 37 such that a viewer may swing the composite samples in either direction to even further simplify wallpaper viewing.
The above described arrangement is merely illustrative of the principles of the present invention. Numerous modifications and adaptations thereof will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the present invention.
What is claimed is:
1. In combination in a wallpaper display arrange ment, first and second wallpaper specimens of like spatial configurations, said specimens being mounted such that the imprinted patterns thereon are disposed at the outer surfaces thereof, a flexible adhesive disposed between and joining the back surfaces of said wallpaper specimens together, the specimens being oriented with conforming edges, a wallpaper specimen suspending cover affixed to the outer surfaces of said two wallpaper specimens about an edge thereof, additional adhesive means securing said cover to said outer edges of said specimens, and suspension means at least partially within said cover means for suspending said wallpaper specimens.
2. A combination as in claim 1, wherein said first adhesive comprises a'fully flexible animal based adhesive with mold inhibitor.
3. A combination as in claim 2, wherein said suspension means comprises a first bar disposed within said cover, and hook means centrally connected thereto.
4. A combination as in claim 2, wherein said suspension means comprises bar means disposed within said cover, and means orthogonal to said bar means about an end thereof.
