UNITED, STATES PATENT OFFICE,
JOHN S. PIHLSTRGM, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
v y PANORAMIC DEVICE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 371,900, dated October 18, 1887.
Application filed Augnstlfi, 1887. Serial No. 246,964. (No mldel.)
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOHN S. PIHLsrRoM, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ohicage, in the county of Cook and State or" Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Panoramic Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to whiclrit appertains to make and use the same.
My invention has for its object the presentation in a panoramic form of single views in perspective of streets, boulevards, parks, or the exterior or interior parts of certain buildings, and to put such views into convenient a fully extended at the proper angle.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which I Figure 1 is a perspective view; Fig. 2 an end view looking into the device when closed.
Referring to the drawings, A is an end plate, on which is drawn, painted,-printed, engraved, stamped, or otherwise placed a flat picture in perspective, or otherwise, of some desired scene.
A is an opposite plate provided with a central hole, b, through which a spectator may look into the device. These two plates are connected by twoflexible top and bottom strips, 0 G. D represents a series of flexible plates with their central portions cut out, and their margins e f g h decorated with suitable scenery or buildings or other accompanying ornamentation to assist in completing a continuous perspective view from end to end of a street, avenue, park, or other scene when the apparatus is stretched out. The sides may be inclosed by thin flexible and semi-transparent material, so as to form a closed chamber.
If it is desired to use the device as an advertising medium, a business street may be selected and any building may be given great prominence in the panorama by placing the same on the side or at the end of the device with the proper signs upon the buildings, and with its proper size and location. The article thus made up would be an excellent souvenir for business houses to present to their customers.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim is- An extensible folding panoramic device consisting of the stiff end plates connectedby strips of flexible material with one end plate provided with one part of a scene and the other plate with a peep hole, in combination with intermediate plates the margins of which are suitably decorated and the central portions cut out, whereby a continuous perspective view is presented, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
JOHN s. rIHLsTRoM.
