FIGURE III COMBINATION BOAT HOOK AND POLE BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION The CONOVER COMBINATION POLE HOOK FOR BOATS is a multi purpose device which in the locked open or extended position or the locked shut or short position as a boat hook, or same device due to enlarged foot area at base can be used as a boat push pole in either position, depending on the deapth of water used in.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE SEVERAL VIEWS OF THE DRAWING FIG. 1 shows Pole Hook with cast metal or plastic round base at foot of pole assembly. It also shows telescoping tubes in extended position, with positive latch in extended position with Boat Hook attached.
FIG. 2 shows telescoping tubes closed and in latched position with Boat Hook attached and square formed base rivited to bottom of assembly. The approximate closed or retracted length is six feet and six inches.
FIG. 3 shows complete Boat Hook assembly with latch spring styrofoam flotation and with formed round sheet metal or plastic base attached by rivits or other means. Styrofoam is in top section only as top section telescopes into bottom section. FIG. 3 also shows details of positive latching device for locking pole into open or closed position.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION Having reference to FIG. 3 in particular, the numeral indicates a tube, usually of aluminum alloy, slidably received in a tube 12 of similar material. The tubes are adapted to be locked in extended position, as seen in FIG. 1, or in a retracted position, as shown in FIG. 2. On excellent lock includes a U-shaped latch spring 14, inside the tube 10, and to the ends of the spring are secured bullet shaped pins 16 extending yieldably through aligning holes in the tubes 10 and 12.
The inside tube 10 is made floatable, as by filling it with styrofoam 18, so should the device be dropped into the water it will float. A boat hook 20 is secured to the end of the tube 10, and a footer 22 is secured to the end of tube 12. The footer 22 materially increases the cross sectional area of the tubes 10 and 12 and provides a comparatively large area which can be pushed against the water bottom, the shoulder of the user conveniently engaging the boat hook during the pushing operation.
The base 22a shown in FIG. 2 constitutes a minor modification of the base 22 of FIG. 1, one being round and the other square.
What is claimed is:
1. An aid to boating comprising a pair of tubular members telescoping from a retracted position to an extended position, latch spring means to lock the members in one or the other position, plastic floatation material within the inside tubular member adjacent the latch means to render the member floatable to support the aid if dropped overboard, a double boat hook at one end of the aid and adjacent the plastic floatation material, and a foot for pushing on the other end of the aid.
