Abstract
A canine feces disposal mechanism having a retractable flexible steel band which fits within a disposal bag having a folded pocket in the top portion thereof for receiving canine feces. The retractable steel band can be retracted closing the plastic bag over the canine feces for easy disposal.

MacNeill [57] ABSTRACT A canine feces disposal mechanism having a retractable flexible steel band which fits within a disposal bag having a folded pocket in the top portion thereof for receiving canine feces. The retractable steel band can be retracted closing the plastic bag over the canine feces for easy disposal.
4 Claims, 9 Drawing Figures a 1 CANINE FECES DISPOSAL MECHANISM BRIEF-DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a canine feces dispos'al mechanism and more particularly to a canine feces disposal mechanism in which the canine feces cannot come in contact with the user.
According to the invention, a telescoping'tube is provided in which a first member telescopically receives a second member, the first member driving a gear which moves a contained steel band to the entrance of the mechanism allowing it to expand into a circular shape dimensioned for fitting within a plastic bag under one side thereof. The other side of the plastic bag contains a folded pocket dimensioned for receiving canine'feces. The mechanism is designed for being carried by a user while walking his dog and catching the canine feces before it hits the surface of the ground. After catching the canine feces the steel band is then retracted closing the plastic bag over the canine feces until a disposal receptacle is located.
An object of the present invention is the provision of an improved canine feces disposal mechanism.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a canine feces disposal mechanism which is extremely simple in operation and-convenient in use.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING Referring to FIG. I, a plastic bag is shown at 11 having bottom openings at 12 and 13together with a folded pocket formed at folds 14 in the top surface thereof.
Referring to FIG. 2, a bag holding mechanism is shown generally at 16 having a first member 17 telescopically receiving a second member 18 with a handle a portion 19 and a head portion 21. Head portion 21 is hingedly attached at 22 to section 18 and hasan opening 23 through which a flexible steel band 24 protrudes. Sections 17 has an aperture therein.
Referring to FIG. 3, section 17 is again shown slidably receiving section 18. Handle portion 19 is fixedly attached to section 18 through attachment tabs'26 in slot 27. Section 18 receives steel band 24 within guide 28 which has a plurality of apertures 29 engaged with gear 31. Gear 31 is rotatably carried by an axle (not shown). Section 18 slidably carries strip 32 having a plurality of apertures 33 therein and being removably attached (not shown) to section 17. Guide 28 is slidably received by slot 30 in section 18.
Referring to FIGS. 7, 8 and 9, the parts of FIG. 3 are shown schematically. Here, flexible wire loop 24 is shown slidably received by guide 28. Guide 28 is engaged with gear 31 which is in turn engaged with slidable strip 32. Strip 32 is coupled through spring member 34 to stop 36. Stop 36 is dimensioned for being received by aperture 37 in section 17, and aperture 35 in section 18. Spring member 34 is biased toward aperture 37 in member 17.
OPERATION Referring to FIGS. 7, 8 and 9 of the operation of the mechanism will be described. As shown in FIG. 7 the telescoping unit sections 17 and 18 at their fully extended position section 18 being represented by guides 25. As section 17 is pulled to the right with respect to the guides'25, strip 32 was carried along via stop 36 coupled by spring section 34 to strip 32. Strip32 having apertures (not shown) in engagement with rotating gear 31 (in the direction shown) pushing section 28 as shown by the arrow, expanding steel spring 24. As shown in FIG. 8, when section 17 is moved to the left with respect to section 18, or guides 25, and stop 36 in aperture 37, strip 32 will be also moved to the left rotating gear'31 in the opposite direction and pulling section 28 to he right compressing steel band 24 between stops 25. Should it be desired to collpase the unit with steel band 24 in its expanded position as shown in FIG. 9, stop 36 is pushed out of aperture 37 into aperture 35 so moving section 17 to the left does not carry strip 32 with it and gear 31 does not rotate.
Referring back to FIGS. 1 and 4, the construction of plastic bag 11' will be described. Plastic bag 11 has a pair of pockets defined by edges 12 and 13 on its bottom surface. Steel band 24 can be slipped into these pockets stretching bag 11 across steel band 24. The folds at 14 define a pleated pocket in the topsurface of plastic bag 1 l which, referring to FIG. 5, can receive objects and afterward collapse via telescoping sections 17 and 18 to effect a closure at the top portion of the bag due to the contraction of steel band 24. After the closure of the bag it can be conveniently disposed of with its contents in any convenient disposal, and a new bag installed on flexible steel ring 24.
It should be understood, of course, that the foregoing disclosure relates to only a preferred embodiment of the invention and that it is intended to cover all changes and modifications of the example of the invention herein chosen for the purposes of the disclosure which do not constitute departures from the spirit and scope of the invention.
The invention claimed is:
l, A canine feces disposal mechanism comprising:
a tube member;
a flexible metallic band having first and second ends retractably carried within said tube member and a center loop portion protruding therefrom; and
a bag member having at least one pocket on one side thereof dimensioned for and receiving said loop portion and a pocket on an opposite side of said bag member dimensioned for receiving canine feces.

Claims (4)
1. A canine feces disposal mechanism comprising: a tube member; a flexible metallic band having first and second ends retractably carried within said tube member and a center loop portion protruding therefrom; and a bag member having at least one pocket on one side thereof dimensioned for and receiving said loop portion and a pocket on an opposite side of said bag member dimensioned for receiving canine feces.
2. The canine feces disposal mechanism of claim 1 and further including: a second tube member telescopically receiving said first mentioned tube member.

The canine feces disposal mechanism of claim 2 and further including: a coupling means coupled between said second tube member and said flexible steel band, said coupling means operable for retracting said metallic band when said first mentioned tube member and said second tube member are telescopically collapsed.
4. The canine feces disposal mechanism of claim 3 wherein said coupling means comprises: first and second strip members, said first strip member being fixedly attached to said flexible metallic band and said second strip being removably attached to said second tube member; and a geAr coupling said first and second strip members.
