11/1962 Roberts 114/206 R 2 Claims, 2 Drawing Figures BOAT ANCHOR This invention relates to boat anchors and more particularly to a non-corrosive anchor for small boats.
It is therefore the primary purpose of this invention to provide an anchor which will have a main body with eye and flange means for simplicity in anchoring a small boat within a lake or the like.
Another object of this invention is to provide an anchor of the type described which will have an elongated cast iron body which will be dipped in plastic so as to prevent corrosion or damage to the boat surface.
Still another object of this invention is to provide an anchor of the type described which will include an integral flange portion which will be half way of the body, the flange serving as stop means on the bottom of the lake so as to prevent the movement of the boat.
Yet another object of this invention is to provide an anchor which will have eye means at its upper extremity for the attachment of the boat line and the device will be of such construction so as to immedaitely tilt so that the flange may dig into the bottom of the like and the flange is of such structure that it will not disturb a great quantity of mud or sand and weeds.
Other objects of this invention are to provide a boat anchor which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will become readily evident upon a study of the following specification together with the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a vertical view of the present invention shown partly broken away and showing the anchor in phantom lines as it will position itself when in use; and
FIG. 2 is a bottom plan view of the invention.
According to this invention, an anchor is shown to consist of a cast iron and elongated body member 11 having an extending flange 12. The entire body member 11 and its integral flange 12 is dipped in a suitable plastic 13 of blue or other color. The upper extremity of anchor 10 includes a central eye 14 and a bottom 15 is flat.
In use, anchor 10 when cast over the side of a small boat will descend until the bottom 15 rests upon the bottom of the lake and as the boat tends to drift, the anchor 10 will immediately tip over and the flange l2 will grippingly engage the mud or sand and thus prevent the boat from drifting.
What I claim is:
l. A noncorrosive boat anchor that will not disturb a great quantity of mud or weeds on the bottom of the lake and which will immediately grip on the bottom of the lake following the dropping of a body member, said boat anchor comprising an elongated metal body member, said elongated body member having a longitudinal axis, said body member having a top half with an eye for attachment to a line from a boat to thereby anchor the boat, said eye located along the longitudinal axis of said elongated body member, said elongated body member having a bottom half with a flat surface thereon to thereby enable said anchor to stand upright when said anchor is lowered onto the bottom of a lake, a disk-like flange extending from said elongated body member, said disk like flange having an edge for engaging the bottom of a lake, said disk-like flange characterized by extending perpendicular from the longitudinal axis of said elongated body member so that water and mud will slide off from said flange, said second end and said disk-like flange having a circular shape so that said anchor can tilt in any direction, said disk-like flange spaced about half way on said elongated body so that when said anchor is tipped by a force on the line, the edge of said flange immediately drops into the lake bottom to thereby grip the lake bottom and prevent the boat from drifting in the lake, said anchor further including a covering of plastic to prevent said anchor from marring an object when not in the lake and to prevent said anchor from corrosion.
2. The invention of claim 1 wherein said disk-like flange and said elongated body member form a single unit covered with a coating of plastic.
Claims (2)
1. A noncorrosive boat anchor that will not disturb a great quantity of mud or weeds on the bottom of the lake and which will immediately grip on the bottom of the lake following the dropping of a body member, said boat anchor comprising an elongated metal body member, said elongated body member having a longitudinal axis, said body member having a top half with an eye for attachment to a line from a boat to thereby anchor the boat, said eye located along the longitudinal axis of said elongated body member, said elongated body member having a bottom half with a flat surface thereon to thereby enable said anchor to stand upright when said anchor is lowered onto the bottom of a lake, a disk-like flange extending from said elongated body member, said disk-like flange having an edge for engaging the bottom of a lake, said disk-like flange characterized by extending perpendicular from the longitudinal axis of said elongated body member so that wateR and mud will slide off from said flange, said second end and said disk-like flange having a circular shape so that said anchor can tilt in any direction, said disk-like flange spaced about half way on said elongated body so that when said anchor is tipped by a force on the line, the edge of said flange immediately drops into the lake bottom to thereby grip the lake bottom and prevent the boat from drifting in the lake, said anchor further including a covering of plastic to prevent said anchor from marring an object when not in the lake and to prevent said anchor from corrosion.
2. The invention of claim 1 wherein said disk-like flange and said elongated body member form a single unit covered with a coating of plastic.
