Abstract

A waste disposal system comprises a receiving chamber including a mechanical grinding device, a liquifying tank in communication therewith and a source of liquifying chemicals connected thereto, an incinerating chamber communicates with the liquifying chamber by way of a pump and includes heating means. Waste products and chemicals added thereto result in substantial liquification of the waste products in the liquifying tank and the subsequent delivery of portions of the liquified waste and liquid carrier to the incinerator chamber act in the maner of a flash boiler to quickly incinerate the waste products and evaporate the liquid carrier.

w lll'll lull-l Till!!! I d WASTE DISPOSAL SYSTEM BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention This invention relates to waste disposal systems capable of handling human waste which chemically treats and liquifies the waste products and disposes of them by incineration.
2. Description of the Prior Art Prior structures of this type have employed grinding apparatus for reducing the waste products to fine particle Size and they have included incinerating means. See for example, U. S. Pat. Nos. 3,540,590; 3,474,468; 3,431,563; 3,098,144; 3,357,381 and 2,768,386.
This invention introduces a chemical liquification stage in the waste disposal system and handles the waste in batch like portions for introduction into a liquifying tank and for removal therefrom for incineration.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION A waste disposal system comprises apparatus for subjecting human waste to three stages of treatment for the elimination of the same. The first stage incorporates a grinding and chemical addition for liquification and deodorization. The second stage includes a liquifying tank and a charge of liquid carrier and liquifying chemicals and acts as a holding and treating area and the third stage consists of an incineration chamber operating in the manner of a flash boiler into which appropriate portions of the liquified waste and liquid carrier are introduced by a pump through suitable spray like discharge means.
DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS FIG. 1 is a vertical section with parts broken away and parts in cross section of a waste disposal unit embodying the present invention.
FIG. 2 is a horizontal section on line 22 of FIG. 1 and FIG. 3 is a vertical section on line 3-3 of FIG. 1.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT In the form chosen for illustration in FIG. 1 of the drawings, the waste disposal system comprises a box like enclosure defining three areas, the first of which at the left of the drawing of FIG. 1 includes a waste receiving bowl 11 opening through the top 12 of the enclosure and provided with hinged seat and lid portions 13 and 14 respectively. The waste receiving bowl ll communicates directly with a grinder 15 which is actuated by an electric motor 16 and the waste receiving bowl II is arranged to receive liquids such as chemicals from a tank 17 as hereinafter described. A pipe I8 connects the grinder 15 with a tank 19 which comprises the second area of the waste disposal system. The tank 19 is adapted to enclose several gallons of fluid such as water and a liquifying chemical and deodorant, the normal liquid level of which is indicated by the letter L.
It will be observed that this liquid level extends through the pipe 18 into the grinder 15 so that circulation between the grinder l5 and the tank 19 is insured by the operation of the grinder 15. A pump 20 located in the tank 19 communicates by way ofa pipe 21 with a spray pipe 22 which is apertured as at 23 and positioned within an insulated incinerator chamber 24. The insulation about the incinerator chamber 24 is indicated by the numeral 25 and a horizontal partition 26 divides the incinerator chamber into upper and lower areas respectively. This is the third area of the waste disposal system.
The horizontal partition 26 supports a shallow pan 27 which has a longitudinally extending Scrapper blade 28 on its rearmost edge and is arranged in the manner of a shallow drawer so that it can be withdrawn from the incinerator chamber 24 through a normally closed access opening in the front of the enclosure 10.
It will be seen that the shallow pan 27 is disposed beneath the spray pipe 22 so that it will receive liquified wastes moved thereinto by the pump 20 as heretofore described. The area beneath the horizontal partition 26 encloses a plurality of heating elements 29 which are preferably electrically actuated resistance heaters so that relatively high temperatures may be generated in the area beneath the horizontal partition 26 which will conduct the same directly to the bottom of the shallow pan 27 in which the liquified waste is sprayed or similarly discharged. A vent 30 communicates with the incineration chamber 24.
By referring to FIG. 2 of the drawings a horizontal section of the waste disposal system may be seen and the relatively large area of the heating elements 29 as compared with the area of the shallow pan 27 may be seen and it will occur to those in the art that under nor mal operating conditions the pan 27 is maintained at a very high temperature in the area of a thousand degrees Fahrenheit so that liquified waste discharged into the pan will be immediately converted to vapor and ash and that the ash will remain in the pan where it can be removed periodically as by withdrawing the pan from the incinerator chamber 24. At these times the scrapper 28 on the back edge of the pan will remove any ash that may have accumulated on the upper surface of the horizontal partition 26.
By referring now to FIG. 3 of the drawings it will be seen that the lid 14 is arranged to actuate an electric switch 31 which is arranged to actuate a liquid dispensor so as to discharge an aqueous solution of appropriate liquifying and disinfecting chemicals from the tank 17 into the bowl 11 and the grinder 15.
Those skilled in the art will observe that the tank 17 may communicate with a water supply if desired so that it may be replenished automatically or alternately it may be manually refilled from time to time. The switch 31 also controls the operation of the grinder l5 and preferably includes a timing mechanism so that the grinder 15 will be actuated for a desired period of time after the lid 14 is closed following depositing of waste in the system. Such actuation of the grinder 15 reduces the waste to fine particles and mixes the same with the liquid in the tank 19 with which the grinder l5 communicates at an optimum level.
Still referring to FIG. I of the drawings it will be seen that a float switch mechanism 32 including a float 33 is positioned in the tank 19 so that when the liquid level L rises a predetermined degree, the switch mechanism 32 initially actuates the heating elements 29 and subsequently the pump 20 so that an amount of the liquified waste is injected into the incineration chamber 24 for rapid incineration. Lowering the liquid level in the tank 19 automatically shuts off the pump 20 and the heating elements 29 and here again a time delay switch may be incorporated if desired to insure the complete vaporization and incineration of the liquid wastes in the incinerator chamber 24.
The above described waste disposal system and the apparatus forming the same may be formed as a compact unit attractively finished and used wherever human waste disposal is needed. It will be seen that it is entirely portable in nature although it may be in stalled in fixed installations if desired and it is believed that by altering the liquifying chemical mix, the disposal unit may be used for disposing of many industrial waste products. The structure is versatile in that it can be used in many locations including campers, mobile homes, boats, ships as well as permanent and semipermanent dwellings, offices etc.
Although but one embodiment of the present invention has been illustrated and described, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention and having thus described my invention, what I claim is:
l. A waste disposal system consisting of a waste receiving and grinding device a liquifying tank in communication with said waste receiving and grinding device and an incinerator device, said receiving and grinding device including a waste receiving bowl, a waste grinder, a source of liquifying chemicals and pump means for introducing said liquifying chemicals and liquid into said waste receiving bowl and moving said waste and liquid from said bowl to said liquifying tank and first means for moving liquified waste from said liquifying tank to said incinerator device, said incinerator device including an insulated chamber, a waste receiving receptacle in' said chamber and heating means separated from said chamber for generating incinerating temperatures in said chamber and vent means communicating therewith.
2. The waste disposal system of claim 1 wherein an elongated pipe having openings therein is disposed in said incinerator device and communicates with said pump means for receiving liquified wastes and discharging the same over a wide area in said incinerating chamber.
3. The waste disposal system of claim 1 wherein a shallow pan is positioned in said incinerating chamber to receive said liquified wastes.
4. The waste disposal system of claim 2 wherein a shallow pan is positioned in said incinerating chamber to receive said liquified wastes from said pipe.
5. The waste disposal system of claim 1 wherein a float switch is located in said tank and said pump is responsive in operation to said liquid level in said tank as determined by said float switch.

Claims (5)

1. A waste disposal system consisting of a waste receiving and grinding device a liquifying tank in communication with said waste receiving and grinding device and an incinerator device, said receiving and grinding device including a waste receiving bowl, a waste grinder, a source of liquifying chemicals and pump means for introducing said liquifying chemicals and liquid into said waste receiving bowl and moving said waste and liquid from said bowl to said liquifying tank and first means for moving liquified waste from said liquifying tank to said incinerator device, said incinerator device including an insulated chamber, a waste receiving receptacle in said chamber and heating means separated from said chamber for generating incinerating temperatures in said chamber and vent means communicating therewith.
2. The waste disposal system of claim 1 wherein an elongated pipe having openings therein is disposed in said incinerator device and communicates with said pump means for receiving liquified wastes and discharging the same over a wide area in said incinerating chamber.
3. The waste disposal system of claim 1 wherein a shallow pan is positioned in said incinerating chamber to receive said liquified wastes.
4. The waste disposal system of claim 2 wherein a shallow pan is positioned in said incinerating chamber to receive said liquified wastes from said pipe.
5. The waste disposal system of claim 1 wherein a float switch is located in said tank and said pump is responsive in operation to said liquid level in said tank as determined by said float switch.
