Callard ABSTRACT: A book has a rear page or cover with an exposed battery powered lamp. All of the other pages have aligned cutout regions exposing the lamp.
ILLUMINATED BOOK SUMMARY or THE INVENTION The rear page or cover of a book is provided with means containing an exposed lamp and a replaceable battery. The lamp can be disposed on the page or can extend outward at right angles thereto. The remaining pages can have aligned identical or dissimilar openings through which the lamp can be viewed.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring first to FIGS. 1 and 2, a book has a back page or cover with a battery 12 secured to the inside surface of cover 10 by adhesive. To accommodate the battery, a com partment 25 is provided when fabricating the book or later by removing a proportionate amount of the pages. The battery 12 carries a socket 23 on the top surface thereof into which a candle-shaped bulb 14 extends. The bulb is turned on by screwing same tightly into the socket and is turned off by being loosened. The remaining pages 16 and front cover 18 have aligned cutout regions 20 whereby the illuminated bulb can be exposed.
In FIG. 3, the cutout regions 20 differ from page to page whereby different designs formed by the overlapping edges of the cutouts can be seen on each page.
FIG. 4 shows a spherically shaped lamp 22 that, when screwed into a socket 24 disposed approximately in the center of the battery 12 extends at right angles thereto and is disposed in the cutout regions.
While I have described my invention particular reference to the drawings, such is not to be considered as limiting its actual scope.
Having thus described this invention, what is claimed as new 1. An illuminated book, comprising;
a front cover, a rear cover, and intermediate pages, said pages and front cover having aligned cutout regions;
a flat battery having a socket and secured to the inner surface of the rear cover, said intermediate pages and front cover being positioned in said book so as to accommodate the width of said battery; and,
a lamp bulb disposed in the socket and visible through the cutout regions provided in said pages and front cover for illuminating the pages of the book.
2. An illuminated book as recited in claim I wherein said bulb extends into said regions at right angles to the battery.
3. An illuminated book as recited in claim 1 wherein said bulb and battery are coplanar.

Claims (3)

1. An illuminated book, comprising; A FRONT COVER, A REAR COVER, AND INTERMEDIATE PAGES, SAID PAGES AND FRONT COVER HAVING ALIGNED CUTOUT REGIONS; A FLAT BATTERY HAVING A SOCKET AND SECURED TO THE INNER SURFACE OF THE REAR COVER, SAID INTERMEDIATE PAGES AND FRONT COVER BEING POSITIONED IN SAID BOOK SO AS TO ACCOMMODATE THE WIDTH OF SAID BATTERY; AND, A LAMP BULB DISPOSED IN THE SOCKET AND VISIBLE THROUGH THE CUTOUT REGIONS PROVIDED IN SAID PAGES AND FRONT COVER FOR ILLUMINATING THE PAGES OF THE BOOK.
2. An illuminated book as recited in claim 1 wherein said bulb extends into said regions at right angles to the battery.
3. An illuminated book as recited in claim 1 wherein said bulb and battery are coplanar.
