Raymond J Lucas United States Patent ice 3,613,118 SLEEP CAP Raymond J. Lucas, 115 Broad St., Mount Holly, NJ. 08060 Filed Dec. 2, 1968, Ser. No. 780,403 Int. Cl. A42b 1/02 U.S. Cl. 2195 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE \A sleep cap to be worn on the heads of men and women while they are sleeping is composed of a head conforming cap portion to enclose areas of the head which normally grow hair having elastic bands secured thereto for snugly retaining the cap portion on a wearers head.
This invention relates to a sleep cap.
It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a sleep cap which will be worn by the user when sleeping.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a sleep cap which encloses that portion of a head that normally grows hair.
Another object of this invention is to provide a sleep cap which will have an elastic band that is placed over the forehead of the head to a point over the ears of the wearer and will be secured to the low contoured back portion of the cap in order that the cap will remain snug upon the head.
A further object of this invention is to provide a comfortable sleep cap that will prevent frictional rubbing of the hair. The present invention is adapted also to be used by those whose hair has already begun to recede or who already have a bald spot, thus the use of the present invention will prevent rubbing of the hair when sleeping. This device is also useful to people who have hair transplants.
Other objects of this invention are to provide a sleep cap which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efl'icient in operation.
These and other objects will become readily apparent upon a study of the following specification together with the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a side view of the present invention shown partly broken away; and
FIG. 2 is a front view of FIG. 1.
According to this invention, a sleep cap is shown to include an elastic band 11 which is secured to the lower extremity of cap 10 toward the low contour back portion 12. Band 11 is also provided with a short elastic support band 13 which is also secured to the lower portion of cap 10 at one end and is secured to band 11 at Patented Oct. 19, 1971 its other end to provide for a maximum of comfort and a snug fit of the cap :10. Band 11 extends along the forehead 14 and fastens back along the sides of the head to a point over the ears 15. The upper portion of cap 10 is provided with a plurality of ventilation openings 16.
In use cap 10 is placed upon the head so that the low contoured back portion 12 is over the back of the head behind the ears 15. The elastic band 11 is placed upon the forehead 14 whereupon cap 10 by means of band 11 and band 13 will remain comfortably upon the head while a person reclines or sleeps.
It is to be noted that the shape of the cap with its downwardly contoured rear portion thus encloses all of the hair on a persons head when being worn, the cap being retained in the worn position by means of the band 11, thus the relationship of the cap being established to the wearers head.
While various changes may be made within the detailed construction, it is understood that such changes will be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as is defined by the appended claim.
What I now claim is:
1. A sleep cap, comprising in combination a covering for placement over the top of a persons head and to enclose the portion thereof which normally grows hair, said covering including a top crown portion with downwardly depending front, rear, and side portions forming a wall all around so as to form an underside pocket into which a wearers head is insertable, the rear portion of said wall extending downwardly a relatively greater distance than the remainder of said side wall, and an elastic band being positioned in parallel spaced apart relation below said front and side portions with the opposite ends of said elastic band being secured to opposite side portions of said rear portion, a pair of elastic band supports one of which is secured to each opposite side portion of said side portions and being secured at its opposite ends to a side portion of said elastic band, and said top crown of said covering being provided with a plurality of ventilation openings.
