Abstract

ANIMATED TOY BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Field of the Invention The present invention relates to animated toys of the type simulating a Woodsman sawing wood.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION An animated figure actuated by a hand crank is positioned to move a saw in a log supported in a saw buck with portions simulating cut off portions of the log being dropped into a pan on each stroke of the saw.
The primary object of the invention is to provide an animated toy which closely simulates the action of a wood cutter sawing wood.
Other objects and advantages will become apparent in the following specification when considered in the light of the attached drawings.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENT Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein like reference characters indicate like parts throughout the several figures the reference numeral 10 indicates generally an animated 'toy constructed in accordance with the invention.
The toy 10 includes a generally rectangular base 11 supported on a plurality of legs 12 rigidly secured thereto. An upstanding generally rectangular beam 13 is secured to the upper face of the base 11 intermediate the opposite side edges thereof and extending substantially the full length of the base 11. A block 14 of generally rectangular shape is secured to the beam 13 at one end thereof extending upwardly therefrom. A shaft 15 is rotatably mounted in a pair of journals 16 secured to the block 14 and extending upwardly therefrom. The shaft 15 has an integral hand crank 17 formed on one end thereof and an integral crank member 18 formed on the opposite end thereof.
A plurality of socket members 19 are mounted on the base 11 against the beam 13 adjacent the block 14.
A pair of upwardly converging legs 20, 21 are secured in longitudinally spaced relation on opposite sides of the beam 13 with their upper ends transversely aligned and connected by a shaft. 22 extending transversely therethrough.
A body 23 of a simulated man is pivotally mounted on the shaft 22 between the upper ends of the legs 20, 21 for rocking movement thereon. A link 24 has one end journalled on the crank member 18 and the opposite end connected to an eye 25 secured to the lower edge of the body 23 at the end thereof opposite the shaft 22.
A pair of arms 26, 27 are secured to the upper end of the body 23 by a pin 28 extending therethrough. The arms 26, 27 are arranged in spaced parallel relation and have a simulated wood saw 29 pivotally mounted between the outer ends of the arms 26, 27. A pin 30 also extends through the arms 26, 27 and the body 23 to secured the arms 26, 27 rigidly to the body 23.
A pair of X-shaped log supports 31, 32 are secured on opposite sides of the beam 13 forwardly of the legs 20, 21 underlying the simulated saw 29. A simulated log 33 extends transversely across the log supports 31, 32 and is rigidly secured thereto by glue or the like.
A downwardly and forwardly sloping channel chute 34 is rigidly secured to the leg 21 by a screw 35 and has its upper rear end supported on a generally U-shaped bracket 36 carried by the base 11 and extending upwardly therefrom.
An ejector 37 is journalled on a transverse shaft 38 carried by the log support 32 near the upper rear end thereof. The ejector 37 has a pair of stop members 39, 40 extending downwardly therefrom in a generally V- form. An ear 41 extends upwardly from the ejector 37 and is connected by a link 42 to the arm 27 by a pivot pin 43. g
A plurality of short generally cylindrical simulated log sections 44 are positioned in the chute 34 to be ejected by the the ejector 37.
A pan 45 is mounted on a post 46 on the base 11 underlying the forward end of the chute 34 so that log sections 44 ejected by the ejector 37 will fall therein.
In the use and operation of the invention the hand crank 17 is rotated causing the body 23 to oscillate on the pivot 22 moving the arms 26, 27 and the saw 29 pivoted therebetween in a oscillating and reciprocating pattern. On each stroke of the saw 29 the ejector 37 is pivoted from the position illustrated in FIG. 3 through the position illustrated in FIG. 4 to the position illustrated in FIG. 5 so that a log member 44 is trapped between the stops 39, 40 and then moved off of the chute 34 so that it can drop into the pan 45. A supply of additional log members 44 may be retained in the sockets l9 ready for use.
As can be clearly seen from the drawings and the above description in the instant invention not only is the simulation of sawing wood carried out but in addition the simulation of the sawed log falling from the saw cut is provided.
Having thus described the preferred embodiment of the invention it should be understood that numerous structural modifications and adaptations may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention.
What is claimed is: I
1. An animated toy simulating sawing of wood comprising a base, a figure mounted on said base, means mounted on said base for rocking said figure, a simulated saw pivotally connected to said figure, means sup-.
porting a simulated log for contact by said simulated saw and means controlled by the rocking of said figure for delivering a simulated log intermittently upon rocking movement of said figure.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein the means for rocking said figure includes a hand crank journalled on said base and means connecting said hand crank to said figure 3. A device as claimed in claim 2 wherein the means for delivering a simulated log includes a downwardly
Claims (5)
1. An animated toy simulating sawing of wood comprising a base, a figure mounted on said base, means mounted on said base for rocking said figure, a simulated saw pivotally connected to said figure, means supporting a simulated log for contact by said simulated saw and means controlled by the rocking of said figure for delivering a simulated log intermittently upon rocking movement of said figure.
2. A device as claimed in claim 1 wherein the means for rocking said figure includes a hand crank journalled on said base and means connecting said hand crank to said figure.
3. A device as claimed in claim 2 wherein the means for delivering a simulated log includes a downwardly and forwardly sloping chute supported on said base and means for ejecting a simulated log from the forward lower end of said chute.
4. A device as claimed in claim 3 wherein the means for delivering a simulated log includes an ejector for ejecting a single log from said chute while retaining the remaining logs in said chute.
5. A device as claimed in claim 4 wherein means are provided extending from said ejector to said figure for rocking said ejector on rocking motion of said figure.
