Abstract

A box-type container in which the integral hinged closure is a wet soap cake draining and supporting dish when the box is closed, the closed box also serving as a container for the soap cake in which it may be safely carried.

sum 1 or 2 HENRY ALLEN \mLsoN COMBINED SOAP CAKE DISH AND CONTAINER DISCLOSURE OF THE INVENTION This invention generally relates to a utility box in which the integral hinged top closure is particularly constructed to support and effectively drain a wet cake of soap during use and thereafter, prior to placing same, preferably dried, within the box-like container to be protected while being carried thereby for subsequent repeated use.

While I have shown and described the instant boxlike container as constructed entirely of a plastic materialand molded or otherwise formed of integral construction, it will be understood that such material and construction have certain advantages for the intended purpose and use. However, the material and the method of manufacture could be other thanthat shown and described without departing from the uses and spirit of the invention.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a protective, dry carrier for a cake of soap and whose top closure will serve as a convenient soap cake dish which will effectively support and drain the cake during sue and protect the interior of the box while so doing, whereby the container may serve to protect and preserve the soap coake during travel for reuse.

Other objects, advantages and capabilities of my invention will later appear which are inherently possessed by my combination and arrangement of parts. Therefore to better understand the said invention attention will now be called to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters represent corresponding parts as described.

FIG. I is a perspective view of my container in closed condition showing the top thereof as it would appear when used with the soap cake shown above the dish and its draining support for the cake;

FIG. 2 is a top plan view of the closed device of FIG.

FIG. 3 is a sectional view taken longitudinally through both end walls of the normally hollow container;

, FIG. 4 is a sectional view taken transversely through the open container. The section being taken through the central integral hinge strap connecting the top and hollow bottom sections of container with a cake of .soap about to be placed in the hollow bottom section; and

FIG. 5 is a transverse sectional view taken through the closed container of FIG. 1. The section being taken through the latch on the front wall and the integral hinge strap on the rear wall.

Referring now to the container 10 as shown in FIG. 1 but with the top or cover 1 1 swung open on the integral strap-type hinges 12 as shown in FIGS. 4 and 5 to also show the interior of the hollow box. The transverse soap cake supporting ribs 13 extending just short of the upstanding front and rear side walls 14 and 15 respectively. The upstanding opposite end walls 16 and 17 like the front and rear walls 14 and 15 respectively, terminate at the upper edge in a stepped edge portion 18 which extends entirely around the lower hollow container part with which the oppositely stepped lower circumferential edge of the top or cover part 1 1 is adapted to interfit when swung to the closed position of parts in FIG. 1. In this position of parts water draining from a cake ofsoa when in use and resting upon the radiating set of ribs 2 WIII flow towards the four corners of the top of the box where the soap cake retaining fence 20 of the upstanding side and end walls of top closure 11 are interrupted by V-shaped notches to form spillways 21. Obviously, more such spillways 21 may be formed in the fence portions 20 as required. At the central meeting edges of the front side walls is formed a snap latch member 23 of any approved type.

As is briefly stated above the instant soap cake dish and container combination may be made in one piece as shown best in FIGS. 4 and 5 with all of the portions integral. The portions as shown and described are also preferably formed of polyethylene plastic or vinyl plastic, but may be formed of any plastic or other pliable or flexible material.

Having thus shown and described my invention,

'I claim:

1. A hollow soap cake container having upstanding side and end walls, a top closure for said container having an upstanding wet soap cake drainage support sub stantially centrally thereof, an upstanding soap-cake confining fence surrounding said support, said fence being interrupted by V-notches at spaced locations to provide spillways.

2. The structure of claim 1, in which said container is substantially rectangular and said V-shaped notches in said fence are located at the corners of said container.

Claims (2)

1. A hollow soap cake container having upstanding side and end walls, a top closure for said container having an upstanding wet soap cake drainage support substantially centrally thereof, an upstanding soap-cake confining fence surrounding said support, said fence being interrupted by V-notches at spaced locations to provide spillways.

2. The structure of claim 1, in which said container is substantially rectangular and said V-shaped notches in said fence are located at the corners of said container.
