Arola [5 7] ABSTRACT A collar that serves as a union for being fitted over the adjacent ends of pipes, the device including a flat sheet of metal which is rolled over to form a cylindrically shaped sleeve with the opposite end edges overlapping each other, and the end edges each having a hook in opposing directions so to hold against opposite sides of one end of a bar that is pivotable about its other end thus forming a quick securement of the end edges. 7
2 Claims, 3 Drawing Figures TIME SAVER DRAWUP COLLAR This invention relates generally to securing collars.
A principal object of the present invention is to provide a draw up collar for being fitted over the opposite ends of adjacent pipes or ducts and which is a time saving device.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a time saving draw up collar which will never come open accidentally after it has been secured.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a time saving draw up collar which can be put on or taken ofi in an equally time saving operation.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a time saving draw up collar which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efficient in operation.
These and other objects will be readily evident upon a study of the following specification and the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the draw up collar shown in a locked position,
FIG. 2 is a perspective view thereof shown in an unlocked position, and
FIG. 3 is a perspective view of the draw up collar shown fitted around opposite ends of a duct or pipe and shown in a locked position.
Referring now to the drawing in detail, the reference numeral represents a draw up collar according to the present invention wherein there is an assembly formed of a flat sheet of metal ll that is rolled intoa cylindrical shape as shown at 12 and which accordingly includes opposite end edges 13 and 14 which overlap each other in the rolled position.
A rivet 15 is secured in one corner of the side edge 14 and one end of the draw up lever 16 is attached pivotally free thereto. The draw up lever extends the full length of the draw up collar 10 and is provided at its opposite end with a circular loop 17 which projects beyond the end edge 18 so that the same may be conveniently grasped in a persons hand and manipulated without interfering with the cylindrical surface of the draw up collar 10.
A hook 19 is attached by means of welding or soldering or by a rivet 2010 a longitudinal mid-portion of the body 21 of the collar and which is along a portion of the edge 13 which is not overlapped by the edge 14 of the collar body.
Another hook 22 is attached by means of welding or soldering or by a rivet, 23 near an opposite corner of the edge 14, as shown in FIG. 1.
It is to be noted that each of the hooks 19 and 22 are pointed in opposite directions to each other.
In operative use, when it is desired to interconnect opposite ends 24 and 25 of a pair of pipes or dlucts, the collar is simply opened up so to be springingly fitted there around after which the edges 13 and 14 are brought to overlap each other.
The draw up lever is then first fitted under the hook 19, as shown in FIG. 2 after which the draw up lever is further pivoted until the lever snaps behind the hook 22, as is shown in FIG. 3 so that the opposite end edges 13 and 14 of the draw up collar are now snugly secured around the outer sides of the pipe of duct ends 24 and 25.
This can be accomplished very quickly and the device can be just as quickly unlocked.
It is to be noted that the present time saving draw up collar can be used on round pipe, square duct or oblong rectangular ducts.
Thus there is provided a quick and easy time saving draw up collar.
What I now claim is:
1. In a time saving draw up collar, the combination of a sheet metal body, said sheet metal body being of generally flat shape which is subsequently rolled so as to form a cylindrical configuration there to, said sheet metal body accordingly having a pair of opposite side edges which overlap each other when said sheet metal is rolled, and time saving means for quickly and easily securing said side edges together in a tight manner around an object or objects secured by said draw up collar, said means comprising a draw up lever, one end of said lever being pivotally attached on a rivet secured at one corner of one of said side edges which overlap each other, an opposite end of said draw up lever projecting beyond the body of said draw up collar, the terminal end of said draw up lever being looped to form a convenient handle, and means whereby said draw up lever near said handle end grasps said opposite side edges of said collar body.
2. The combination as set forth in claim 1, wherein said last mentioned means comprises a pair of hooks, one of said hooks being attached to each one of said side edges, and said hooks being pointed in opposite directions, said hooks accordingly grasping opposite sides of said end of said draw up lever.
