- INVEN JOHN W. DUCKE raw/97w,- aaa ATTORNEYS PLAYING DISC WITII TACKY SURFACE The popularity of house games has encouraged the gaming arts to develop noncomplex but interesting games adapted to be played by all age groups. Furthermore, competitive-type games have been found to arouse greater player interest than games which are noncompetitive. For example, darts, table tennis and other such competitive games, demanding skill and dexterity, have proven popular for many years.
An object of thisinvention is to provide a playing device adapted for use in a noncomplex game which is easy to learn, but yet requires a substantial degree of skill and dexterity. The device comprises a flexible disc having its diameter and thickness selected from predetermined ranges. A plurality of such discs, preferably having various sizes and colors, are adapted to be packaged to provide two or more sets thereof in the game.
The method of this invention comprises: dividing the sets up between two or more players; permitting one player to throw one of his discs onto a flat surface, such as a floor; and permitting a second player to throw one of his discs in an attempt to at least partially cover his opponent's disc. If the second player succeeds in covering his opponents disc, he would be entitled to both discs. The game is terminated when one of the players is declared the winner by collecting all of the discs.
Other objects of this invention will becomeapparent from the following description and accompanying drawings wherein:
FIG. 1 is a view disclosing a plurality of discs of this invention being played;
FIG. 2 is a top plan view of a disc;
FIG. 3 is a bottom plan view of the disc;
FIG. 4 is an end view of the disc;
FIG. 5 is a top plan view of a target adapted for use as an optional accessory and game to be played with the discs.
FIG. 6 is a plan view of the target.
FIG. I illustrates the practice of a game in which a player, partially shown at 10, stands behind a line II to throw a disc 12 thereover. The disc, more clearly shown in FIGS. 2-4, comprises a circular configuration having a diameter preferably selected from the range of from 1 to 6 inches. The disc may comprise a substantially uniform thickness throughout (FIG. 4), preferably selected from the range of from one-sixteenth to one-fourth of an inch. For example, a thickness closely approximating one-eighth of an inch has been successfully used.
The disc comprises a flat bottom surface 13 and a top surface having a centrally disposed flat surface portion 14 parallel to the bottom surface. The bottom surface and the flat surface portion are joined together by curved or rounded edge portions 15 formed on the periphery of the disc. Such curved edge portions are tangent with respect to the top, flat surface portion and intersect the bottom surface to form a circular edge around the disc lying in the plane of the bottom surface.
The disc may have indicia means l6 imprinted, painted or otherwise formed on the bottom thereof (FIG. 3) for purposes hereinafter explained. In addition, the discs may be colored differently to form a plurality of sets for two or more players. The discs constitute a substantially homogeneous, rubberlike and flexible material such as rubber or a vinyl chloride resin suitably combined with a standard plasticizer.
FIG. 5 illustrates a packaged game 17 comprising a plurality of discs 12. The package may comprise a cellophane or plastic see-through bag 18, closed at the open end thereof by a folded-over cardboard or paper cover 19. The cover may be secured to the bag by staples or other suitable fastening means. If so desired, a target 20 may be packaged with the discs to facilitate the playing of a game other than the preferred one hereinafter described. The target is shown in its folded-out, plan view in F IG. 6.
The preferred method of playing the above-described game comprises the initial step of dividing the discs into two sets of equal number, assuming One set could be colored red, for example, whereas the other set could comprise a contrasting color such as blue. A first player then throws one of hrs discs, such as disc 12a (FIG. 1),
onto a level surface such as the floor.
Line 11 may be formed as a chalk mark, for example, to indicate when a foulhas been committed by having a player step thereover. The second player, partially shown at 10, then throws his disc 12 in an attempt to at least partially cover disc 12a in which event he would win and collect both discs. For example, a disc 12b is shown as partially overlying a disc 120. The game is terminated when one of the players is declared a winner by collecting all of the discs.
It should be noted that the flexible disc is aerodynamically designed (FIGS. 2-4) to permit a player to achieve a high degree of accuracy therewith. In addition, flat, bottom surface 13 aids in preventing the disc from unduly skidding once it makes contact with the floor or an opponents disc. Furthermore, the above-mentioned preferred plastic material employed therefor exhibits a degree of surface tackiness to aid in its semiadherence to another disc.
Indicia means 16 (FIG. 16) may be formed on the discs to vary the above-described game. For example, the smallest disc could be imprinted with the numeral 20 whereas the largest disc could be imprinted with the illustrated numeral 10. The total number of points accumulated for all discs collected could then determine the winner. When the target illustrated in FIG. 6 is employed, points scored could be determined by the position of a disc thereon, e.g., a disc touching at least the 30 ring would result in 30 points being awarded to the player.
lclaim:
l. A playing device comprising a circular disc constituting a solid, substantially homogeneous flexible material exhibiting surface tackiness on both its top and bottom sides to aid in semiadherence of one disc to another, said disc having a diameter selected from the range of from 1 to 6 inches and a substantial uniform thickness selected from the range of from one-sixteenth to one-fourth of an inch, said disc further having a flat, bottom surface and a top surface having a centrally disposed flat surface portion parallel to said bottom surface and curved edge portions formed on the periphery of said disc to be tangent with respect to said flat surface portion and to intersect said bottom surface to form a circular edge lying in the plane of said bottom surface.
2. The invention of claim 1 wherein said disc further comprises indicia means formed on a flat surface thereof.
that only two players are involved.

Claims (2)
