THREE POSITION WIGLET This invention relates generally to a detachable coiffure and more specifically to a wiglet.
Wigs have recently become quite fashionable with women in that they allow the wearer to convey the impression of having longer or more hair than she actually has as well as allowing a saving of many hours in the styling and setting of ones natural hair. Partial wigs or wiglets have also met with much favor in that they allow the wearer more flexibility in hair styles as well as augmenting the quantity of one's natural hair.
The prior art coiffures have the disadvantages that they are relatively expensive and that they are generally contoured so as to be worn in only one position.
The present invention overcomes ,these disadvantages by providing a relatively inexpensive method of constructing a wiglet which wiglet is versatile in that it may be worn in any of three general positions and may be appropriately contoured to fit the chosen position.
The present invention accomplishes this by providing a wiglet which is made by forming natural hair or other hairlike filaments approximately 4 inchesin length into a fringe and sewing this fringe to a foundation material such as burlap in a spiral fashion beginning at the outer edge of the burlap and terminating near its center. The thusformed wiglet may be contoured to any desired shape by wetting the wiglet and then allowing it to dry on a head form of the desired shape. 1
Therefore, it is an object of the present invention to provide a detachable coiffure which may be worn in any of several positions on the head. i
It is another object of the present invention to provide an economical method of constructing a wiglet. h
It is a furtherobject of this invention to provide a coifiure construction which allows ventilation to the wearer's natural hair and scalp for comfort and health. a
A salient object of the present invention is to provide an economical and versatile wiglet.
It is another object of the present invention to provide a wiglet which may be selectively contoured and worn in any of three general positions.
These and other features and advantages will become readily apparent from the following detailed description of a specific embodiment of the invention wherein:
FIG. I is a top plane view of the wiglet being worn in the top front position;
FIG. 2 is a top plane view of the wiglet being worn in the crown position;
FIG. 3 is a top plane view of the wiglet being worn in the nape position;
FIG. 4 is a cutaway perspective view showing the construction of the top of the wiglet; and
FIG. 5 is a cutaway perspective view of the bottom of the wiglet showing the details of the construction.
Referring now to FIG. I, the detachable coiffure is shown in position on a wearers head so that the front of thewiglet l coincides with the wearer's natural hairline. This is referred to as the top from position.
Similarly, FIG. 2 shows the detachable coiffure worn in the crown position, and FIG. 3 shows it in the nape position. When worn in this last position, the coiffures top will be even with the top of the ears, and it will serve as a fillin for the entire nape section.
Turning now to FIG. 4, the wiglet is seen to constructed on a foundation of flexible sheet material 2 such as burlap. A fringe 3 of human hair 4 4 inches in length is sewn to the burlap foundation in a spiral pattern beginning on the periphery at 5 and terminating near the center of the wiglet. The point of termination 6 is shown in FIG. 5
FIG. 5 shows lb cut away view of the bottom of the wiglet with the stitching 7 progressingin a spiral fashion from the periphery toward the center terminus in the direction indicated by the arrowheads. The foundation material 2 is then covered by a second sheet of flexible material 8 such as burlap which is similar to the foundation material 2. This second sheet serves to cover the stitches 7. A nylon net I0 may then be aft'ixed over the second sheet for appearance purposes. The several layers are now sewn together and finished with a cotton bias tape 9.
The finished wiglet is now seen to consist of a net I0 upon which is a layer or sheet of burlap 8 which in turn is below the foundation sheet of burlap 2. To the "top side of this foundationlayer, the fringe 3 of hair approx imately 4 inches long is sewn in a continuous spiral. The wiglet is finished around its periphery with the tape 9.
It is important that the fringe be sewn to the foundation beginning on the periphery and terminating near the center of the wiglet to prevent the process from causing the oval shaped foundation to cup or dist'ort.
The novel utility of the invention should now be apparent.
Using burlap as the foundationmaterial allows the user to wet the wiglet and then place it on a head form to dry. When dried. the wiglet will retain the contour given it by this process. A user may thus contour the wiglet to achieve the proper fit for wearing in any of the three general positions shown in FIGS. 1, 2, and 3. Further, the wiglet while initially being formed of straight hair as shown in FIG. 4 may be set to any hair style desired.
It is desirable that the wiglet have a major axis of between 7 and 8 inches and a minor axis of between SVnnd 6%nches. These dimensions have been found desirable because they allow the wiglet to be worn in each of the three positions by most users. In one preferred embodiment 6%by 7%nches has been found to be suitable.
While the instant invention has been shown and described herein in what is conceived to be the most practical and preferred embodiment, it is recognized that departures may be made therefrom within the scope of the invention. which is therefore not to be limited to the details disclosed herein but is to be accorded the full scope of the appended claims.
