PATENTEU m 1 2 |97l sum 1 OF 2 HYDRAULIC SHEARS FOR cu'muo UP MOVING moors J The present invention relates to hydraulic shears, and more particularly to hydraulic shears for continuous-casting plants.
Known in the prior art are hydraulic shears for continuous casting plants, provided with a frame having knives mounted thereon'and hydraulic cylinders actuating said knives.
A disadvantage of said shears is that they have large overall width',which precludes their use on multimachine, multistrand plants for the continuous casting of metal.
An object of the present invention is toprovide hydraulic shears which are small inwidth and capable of developing the required cutting forces. l i
In accordance with the above and other objects, hydraulic shears are provided having a frame with knives mounted thereon and hydraulic cylinders actuating said knives.
in conformity with the invention, the hydraulic cylinders actuating'the'knives are mounted in succession in at least one counter weighting and lifting the shears.
It is preferred that at least one of the hydraulic cylinders is employed as a pressure intensifier.
The hydraulic shears according to the invention are small in overall width which allows a number of shears to be mounted in parallel with a minimum' spacingbetween their axes which, in turn, allows the provision of multimachine strand multiplants of the strand machine" type for casting molten metal fromladles of medium and large capacity into ingots of small section.
Thedetails of the present invention. will become more fully apparent from a consideration of the following description of exemplary embodiments thereof, taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 is anelevation view, partially in section of hydraulic shears according to the present invention;
FIG. 2 is'a top view of the shears of FIG. 1; FIG .3 shows the shears as viewed along the arrow A of FIG.
FIG. 4is a cross-sectional view taken along the line Ill-III of FIG}; v I Q PFIGQ 5 isan elevation view, partiallyin section, of hydraulic shear s"' according to a second embodiment thereof; FIG 6 is a top view of the shears of FIG. 5;
FIG. 7 is a cross-sectional view taken on the line VII-VII of FIG. 5;' and FIG. 8 is a view of the shears in the direction of arrow B of FIG. 7.
The hydraulic shears comprise a frame 1 (FIGS. 1, 2) consisting of two side jaws 2 interconnected by crosspieces 3, 4, 5.
The crosspiece 3 simultaneously functions as a support for knife 6.
Provided on the frame 1 is slide 7 movable along the jaws 2, and hydraulic cylinders 8 and 9 arranged in succession one after another and secured on the frame 1 by means of crosspieces 10.
It is also possible to arrange the hydraulic cylinders in several parallel rows.
A knife 11 is secured on the slide 7.
The rod of a piston 12 of the hydraulic cylinder 8 is connected to the slide 7 by means of an arrangement 13.
One working space of the hydraulic cylinder 9 is connected through a breather 14 to the surrounding atmosphere in order to prevent the formation of pressure or-vacuum within this working space during the motion of piston. Said breather l4 simultaneously serves for draining leakages through the piston packings of the hydraulic cylinder 9.
Provided at one end of the frame 1 in the jaws 2 are slots 15 (FIG. 3) by the aid of which the frame is mounted on guide blocks 16 (FIG. 3, 4). The guide blocks 16 are secured on axle 17 provided in bracket 18.
The opposite end of the knife-supporting frame is provided with ball-and-socket joint 19(FIG. l) which is employed for mounting the frame on the movable portion 20 of hydraulic cylinder 22 pivoting on bracket 21. The cylinder 22 is in tended to counterweigh and lift this end of the frame.
Such an arrangement of the frame makes it possible for the thrust knife 6 to move together with ingot 23.
To place the knife 11 into its initial position when the ingot size is to be changed, screw adjusting device 25 (FIG. I. 2) is provided on the shank of piston 24 of the hydraulic cylinder 9, while for similar positioning of the knife 6, screw adjusting device 26 (FIG. 2, 4) is provided at the ends of the jaws 2 of .the frame 1.
According to the second exemplary embodiment, one common body 27 (FIGS. 5 and 6) is provided in the hydraulic shears. Supported on this body is hydraulic cylinder 28 as formed by the body 27, piston 29,-and piston rod 30, and pressureintensifier 31 as formed by the body 27, low-pressure piston 32, and high-pressure piston 33 interconnected by piston rod 34.
In order to prevent the development of pressure or vacuum within the low-pressure working space of the pressure intensitier 3] at its piston rod end when the piston 32 is moving, this space is connected to the surrounding atmosphere through breather 35.
To place the knife 11 into its initial position when the ingot size is to be changed, screw-adjusting device 36 (FIG. 5) is provided on the slide 7 while for a similar positioning of the knife 6 the screw-adjusting device 26, similar to that in the first embodiment of the shears, is arranged at the ends of the jaws 2 of the frame 1.
The operation of shears is accomplished in the following manner.
With the delivery of working liquid into the hydraulic cylinders 8 and 9, the rods of pistons 24 and 12 move the slide 7, with the knife 11 on it, to effect contact of the knife 11 with the ingot 23. Then the frame 1 along with the knife 6 begins to move on the guide blocks 16 until contact of the knife 6 with the ingot 23. Further on the cutting of ingot takes place by way of shifting its cut portion by the knife ll while the knife 6 remains stationary in reference to the ingot-23.
Since in the course of cutting the ingot, the end of the frame 1 at the side of the knife 6 moves together with the ingot, the fixed position of the knife 6 in reference to the ingot 23 is ensured due to the movement of the frame I along the guide blocks 16, and to the pivoting thereof on the bracket 18.
I Upon completing the cutting operation, the working spaces of the cylinders 8 and 9 which have been fed with working liquid, are now reversed to return lines whereas the working space at the side of rod of the piston l2 of the hydraulic cylinder 8 is reversed for delivering the working liquid into itv The working pressure displaces the rod of piston 12 of the hydraulic cylinder 8; the piston rod displaces the rod of piston 24 into the hydraulic cylinder 9 and shifts the slide 7, with the knife 11, on it into their initial position.
The operation of the shears in its second embodiment is carried out in the following way.
With the delivery of working liquid into the low-pressure working space of the pressure intensifier 31, the working space of the'cylinder 28 at the end ofthe rod 30 is reversed to return lines whereas the liquid from the high-pressure working space of the pressure intensifier 31 is displaced by the piston 33 into the hydraulic cylinder 28 and shifts the piston 29 along with the piston rod 30 andthe slide 7, together with the knife 11 mounted on the latter. The movement of the slide 7 is con tinued to effect contact of the knife 11 with the ingot 23. Then the frame 1, along with the knife 6, begins to move on the guide blocks 16 until contact of the knife 6 with the ingot 23.
The further operation of shears is accomplished in the same manner as that of shears in the first embodiment described above.
Upon completing the cutting operation, the low-pressure working space of the pressure intensifier 31 is reversed to return lines whereas the working space at the end of piston rod 30 of the hydraulic cylinder 28 is reversed for delivering the working liquid into it. The working liquid shifts the piston 29 of the hydraulic cylinder 28 and displaces the liquid out of it and into the high-pressure working space of the pressure intensifier 31. The liquid shifts the piston 33 of the high-pressure working space and also shifts the piston 32 via the piston rod 34 of the low-pressure working space of the pressure intensifier 31. Simultaneously with the piston rod 30 of the hydraulic cylinder 28, the slide 7, along with the knife 11, return to their initial position. As soon as the knife 11 is outside the confines of the ingot, the shears return to its initial position in the similar way as in the case of the first embodiment described above.
In the foregoing description of the embodiments of the invention considered, a specific narrow terminology is employed for the sake of clarity; however the invention is not limited by the terms adopted and it should be understood that each of these terms embraces all the equivalent elements functioning in a similar manner and employed for solving the same problems.
