Description

(No Model.) Y W. A. HOLBROOK.
INSIDE BLIND.

NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
I/VALTER A. HOLBRQOK, -OF MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN.
INSIDE BLIND.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 355,168, dated December 28, 1886.
Application filed December 28, 1885. Serial No. 186,916.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WALTER A. HOL- BROOK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Milwaukee, in the county of Milwaukee and State of WVisconsin, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Inside Blinds; and I do declare the following to be a full,
' clear, and exact description of the invention,
such as will enable others skilled in the art to i which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters or figures of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a front elevation, one side thereof being in vertical section. Fig. 2 is'a vertical central section of the same, and Fig. 3 is a horizontal transverse section.
This invention relates to inside shutters for windows; and it consists in the construction and novel combination of parts, as will be hereinafter described, and pointed out in the claim.
Referring by letter to the accompanying drawings, A designates the jamb-lining of a window-frame, which is provided with the integral parting-strips B, which, in connection with integral side guide-strips, G 0, form the guideways for the sliding blind-sections. Be
tween the side guide-strips, O G, and the parting-strips B, about midway of the length of the window-frame, I provide single pulleys or grooved wheels G in one of the pairs of vertical grooves H, said grooves being the outside grooves, and in the inside grooves I provide wheels J J, placed in said grooves. The section D of the blind is the uppermost of the four sections, and is held in place by springs located in its grooved edges and secured in place by screws, which springs normally press outwardly against the material of thewindowframes and hold the section D of the sliding blind to any point to which it may have been adjusted. Weighted cords M are provided for the lower blind-section, and these cords M are run over the outside single pulleys or (No model.)
nying drawings, that various adjustments of i the sliding sections may be made for the purpose of excluding or admitting light and air.
I is a molding to cover joints between jamb lining and window-frames, thereby dispensing with grooving window-frames to take tongue or jarnb-piece as'in the ordinary construction, and allowing the putting together at the 'factory of the jamb-lining and casings, with the blind sections set in already to set up to the window-frame. 7
Section D, instead of. wood panel, may be filled in with stained-glass, the frame remaining as before. This gives the same effect from the-inside, and is much cheaper thanproviding frame outside for said glass.
Having described this invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 7
The combination, with a window-frameconstructed as described and provided with the sashways having the central vertical integral parting-strips and the outer guide-strips, of the pulleys arranged in the said ways, the
counterbalancing-sections connected by ropes I WVALTER A. HOLBROOK.
