Description
v. c. be LE ON SPILIrPROOF DRINKING CUP Feb. 18, 1969 Filed Sept. 27, 1967 INVENTOR. Vet/100 (Z09 Leon United States Patent 3,428,214 SPILL-PROOF DRINKING CUP Vernon C. De Leon, RED. 2, East Chatham, N.Y. 12060 Filed Sept. 27, 1967, Ser. No. 670,857 US. Cl. 220-90.4 Int. Cl. A47g 19/22; B6511 /40, 11/16 1 Claim ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to container devices and more particularly to a drinking cup.
It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a spill-proof drinking cup which will have an over-flow opening through the inner Wall to take oif the excess liquid thus enabling one to carry a filled cup without spilling its contents.
Another object of this invention is to provide a spillproof drinking cup which may be used in vending machines and will have a space between the inner and outer wall which will serve as a reservoir for collecting fluid that has entered an elongated slot through the inner wall at its upper extremity.
Other objects of the present invention are to provide a spill-proof drinking cup which is simple in design, inexpensive to manufacture, rugged in construction, easy to use and efiicient in operation.
These and other objects will become readily apparent upon a study of the following specification together with the accompanying drawing wherein:
FIGURE 1 is a cross sectional view taken along the lines 1-1 of FIGURE 2;
FIGURE 2 is a top plan view of the present invention; and
3,428,214 Patented Feb. 18, 1969 FIGURE 3 is a cross sectional view taken along the lines 33 of FIGURE 1.
According to this invention, a drinking cup 10 is provided with an outer wall 11 which is spaced apart from an inner wall 12 which forms a reservoir 13 for receiving the spilled liquid. The upper extremities of outer wall 11 and inner wall 12 terminate as a tapered lip 14. An elongated rectangular-configurated opening 15 through the inner wall 12 at its upper extremity provides a means for the excess liquid to travel down into the reservoir 13.
In use, when a person is walking while holding drinking cup 10, the liquid contained within may slosh upwards and the excess is carried 01f through the opening 15 down into the reservoir 13 and thus preventing the excess liquid from dropping to clothes, floor, or other place.
It will be noted that drinking cup 10 may be made of various materials such as paper, plastic, etc.
What I now claim is:
1. In a spill-proof drinking cup, the combination of a vessel comprised of an inner shell and an outer shell, said shells being in spaced apart relation so to form a reservoir therebetween, each said shell comprising a generally cylindrically configurated side wall and an integral bottom wall, the upper edges of said side walls of said inner and outer shell being interconnected by a circular top wall which is downwardly tapered toward the center of said vessel, the inner edge of said downwardly tapered top wall defining an opening into said vessel, and an arcuate slot extending horizontally through the side wall of said inner shell near the upper edge thereof for the purpose of receiving overflow fluid into said reservoir.
