B63b 25 08, 25 00 U.S. Cl. 114-75 2 Claims ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a shifting board setting apparatus for container ship.
In loading in bulk the grain and the like, the shifting board must be set in the hold in order to prevent moving of the grain in the hold.
An object of this invention is to provide an apparatus in which the shifting board may be easily set.
Another object of this invention is to provide an apparatus which is not in the way of the container.
The apparatus of this invention is provided in the space which is naturally formed in the hold between the stored containers. Consequently, the container hold is not decreased in its capacity by the apparatus.
More specifically, the container guides are vertically provided in the container hold, and the upper terminal end of the container guide is secured to the guide block which is provided on the hatch coaming or the beam of the hold to introduce the container into the container hold. The container guide has to have a width in the plane, so that there is inevitably formed a space between the installed container guides. The apparatus in accordance with this invention is provided in the space.
Still further objects and advantages of the present invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following description.
Referring now to the drawings in which:
FIG. 1 is a diagrammatic plane view of a container hold provided with an apparatus of this invention in which the shifting boards are set;
FIG. 2 is a sectional view taken on line 22 in FIG. 1;
FIG. 3 is a sectional view taken on line 3-3 in FIG. 1;
FIG. 4 is a perspective view of the apparatus of this invention;
FIG. 5 is an enlarged elevational View of the portion circled at 5 in FIG. 3;
FIG. 6 is a plan view of FIG. 5;
FIG. 7 is an enlarged elevational view of the portion circled at 7 in FIG. 3; and
FIG. 8 is a sectional view taken on line 88 in FIG. 7.
Referring now to the drawings, and particularly to FIGS. 1 to 3, character 11 designates a longitudinal bulkhead and 12 designates upper deck plates provided between the longitudinal bulkhead 11 and another side longitudinal bulkhead (not shown). Two upper beams 13 are provided inside of the hatch coaming 17. On the both sides of the upper beams 13 and on the inner side of the hatch coaming 15, T-shaped guide blocks 14 are secured. At the corners of the holds, i.e. at the junctions of the ice hatch coamings 17 and 15 and the junctions of the upper beams 13 and hatch coaming 17, L-shaped guide blocks 18 are secured. As shown in FIGS. 4 and 5, each guide block 14 has two inclined surfaces 20 at the both corners to introduce the container into the hold. Two vertical container guides 21 of angle-iron are secured under each T- shaped guide block 14 in alignment with the surfaces of the corners of the block, and the container guides 21 are positioned adjacent to the four corners of the container to be stored, to form a guideway for the container, as indicated by the broken lines in FIG. 1. As shown in FIG. 4, it is necessary to leave some clearance space of a width W between the guides 21 to provide strength to the guide block 14 which provides a common upper terminus for the pair of opposed guides of adjacent guideways.
The apparatus in accordance with this invention is provided between the opposite guide blocks on the center line of the ship. As shown in FIG. 4, vertical plates 31 and a plurality of brackets 22 are secured to the opposed container guides 21 in vertically spaced relation at the location in which the apparatus of this invention is installed. A unit of the apparatus of this invention comprises a pair of upper supporting frame members 25 and 26 extending between guide blocks 14 at opposite sides of the hold, a lower supporting frame member 27 also extending between the opposite sides of the hold, and side supporting frames 28 and 29 and a central supporting frame member 30 extending upwardly from the lower frame member 27 to the upper frame members 25 and 26.
The upper supporting frames 25 and 26 are secured to the opposed guide blocks 14 with a suitable spacing within the clearance space W. The lower supporting frame 27 having U-shaped section is secured to the plates 31 secured to the side edges of the bracket 22 and to the opposite container guides 21. Each side supporting frame members 28 and 29 comprises a pair of frames respectively secured to the upper and lower supporting frames 25, 26 and 27 and the plates 31. The central supporting frame 30 has H-shaped section and is secured to the upper and lower supporting frames 25, 26 and 27. Thus the framework for setting the shifting board is formed between the pair of opposite guide blocks and their associated container guides.
The shifting boards 32 and 33 are slidable into the framework between the upper supporting frames 25 and 26 as illustrated.
It will be understood that the apparatus for setting the shifting board may be installed at a location other than the center line portion of the ship.
I claim:
1. In a container ship having a hold defined between a pair of transverse structures and a pair of longitudinal structures, and series of vertically-elongated container guides permanently mounted on opposite sides of said hold and arranged in sets to form a series of guideways along the length of the hold adapted to slidably engage and receive containers therein for storage in the hold, said guides terminating at their upper end in guide blocks, said blocks including common guide blocks associated with opposed guides of two adjacent sets in horizontally spaced relation and providing a clearance space intermediate the adjacent guideways formed by said sets, the improvement wherein a supporting frame is mounted intermediate and interconnects the container guides associated with said common guide blocks, and a shifting board is carried by said frame interposed between said container guides out of the Way of the guideways formed thereby.
2. Apparatus according to claim 1 wherein said common guide blocks are paired on opposite sides of the hold, and said frame comprises a lower member having a U- shaped section extending between said common guide 3 blocks a series of vertically-spaced brackets secured to said guides underlying each of said common guide blocks and parallel vertical members mounted on said brackets and extending upward from said lower frame member for slidably receiving shifting boards therebetween.
