PROTECTIVE COVERING FOR SAFETY RAZORS AND THE LIKE Filed July 8, 1965 J7ZU6Z 72567; Mar y 11152 6227262" United States Patent Office 3,339,608 Patented Sept. 5, 1967 3,339,608 PROTECTIVE COVERING FOR SAFETY RAZORS AND THE LIKE Murry J. Brenner, 2024 S. Wabash Ave., Highland Park, Ill. 60035 Filed July 8, 1965, Ser. No. 470,478 2 Claims. (Cl. 150-52) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a protective covering for safety razors and the like.
One 'of the objects of this invention is to provide a protective covering for safety razors and the like, wherein the blade is retained in the head of the razor while same is being shipped or packed in luggage, so that the blade will be protected against damage and the person will be protected from being cut or injured by the blade.
Another object of this invention is to provide a protector formed of a flexible material which, while protecting the safety razor unit, does not increase the overall dimensions of the safety razor unit, and which permits it to be packed in luggage or placed in a compartment to occupy a minimum of space, substantially the same amount of space as would be required for the safety razor unit without the protective covering.
Another object of this invention is to provide a transparent protective covering for a safety razor unit so that the razor is visible through the protective covering.
Another object of this invention is to provide a protec tive covering which may be produced at such a low cost that it may be given away as an advertising premium.
Other objects will become apparent as this description progresses.
In the drawings:
FIG. 1 is a perspective view of the protective covering forming this invention and showing same in closed position.
FIG. 2 is a front view, partly broken away, showing the safety razor, in dotted lines, in position within the protective covering.
FIG. 3 is a view of the covering in open position, and
FIG. 4 is an enlarged sectional view taken on line 4-4 of FIG. 2.
The razor blade protector is formed of a strip of flexible pliable plastic material 10, preferably transparent, which has been cut or stamped to form a centrally positioned generally rectangular-shaped body 12 with a front extension 14 adjacent one side and a rear extension 16 adjacent the other side. The extensions 14 and 16 are narrower than the width of the body 12 and are each of generally rectangular shape and are centrally positioned with respect to the body 12.
The rear extension 16 has secured to it a front strip 18 of the same material, which is secured by heat sealing along its opposite side edges as at 20 to the rear extension 16, so that it forms a sleeve or pocket 22 between the rear extension 16 and strip 18. The inner edge of the strip 18 is reversely folded as at 24 and heat sealed as at 26 to provide a reinforced inner end. The sleeve or pocket 22 is open at its opposite ends. A male snap fastener 28 is secured to the front strip 18. The front extension 14 has secured to it the female snap fastener 30.
A blade-type safety razor generally indicated at 32, with the blade carried in the head of the razor, may be inserted into the protector and covered. The handle 34 of the safety razor is inserted into the sleeve or pocket 22 and the head 36 with the blade therein positioned to rest against the lower portion of the body 12. The body 12 is then folded or reversely bent, as shown in FIGS. 1, 2 and 4, so that the upper portion of the body 12 is positioned over the head 36 and the blade of the razor, and the female fastener 30* is snapped into locking position with the male fastener 28, to thereby protectively cover the head of the razor with the blade in the head.
The head 36 of the razor cannot pass outwardly through the sleeve 22 and the razor will therefore be locked securely in the protective covering, eliminating any possibility of damage or injury to the blade and the possibility of a person being accidentally cut or injured by the blade when the safety razor is handled.
The protector may be made at a cost which is so low and insignificant that it can be given away, and although it is very simple in construction it affords protection to and from the blade of the razor.
It will be understood that various changes and modifications may be made from the foregoing without departing from the spirit and scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. A protector for a safety razor or the like which has a handle and a shaving head for receiving a blade, said protector formed of a plastic pliable material having a sleeve at one end, a body portion extending outwardly of the sleeve and a reduced extension extending outwardly of the body portion, said sleeve being narrower than the width of the body portion and the reduced extension being of a width substantially that of the sleeve, said sleeve adapted to receive the handle with the body portion adapted to be folded to cover the head and with the reduced extension positioned adjacent the sleeve and extending below the .top of the sleeve, having a fastening element below the top of the sleeve, said reduced extension having a complementary engageable fastening element to hold and lock the body portion in its foldedover position over the head of the razor and prevent manual contact with the head and blade of the razor while the fastening elements are interlocked.
2. A protector defined in claim 1 in which the inner edge of the sleeve is reinforced.
