(Cl. 57-34) The invention relates to double twist frames comprising at least one facility for preparing a winding-off package in readiness for mounting the same in the fra-me.
In conventional frames of this kind such facilities are provided for preparing one or two packages in order to have them available im-mediately when the working winding-off package is empty.
The object of the invention is to reduce to a minimum the unproductive idle time in the operation of such a machine. Facilities which provide no more than a peg are insullicient for reducing the idle time. It has been proposed to provide facilities for the reception of a package carrier that has been previously filled with a ful-l package, for the purpose of threading the yarn ends through diverse guides for a double setting. However, even this arrangement does not substantially reduce the idle time. As known, unproductive idle time is principally `caused by the fact that the operator must perform the awkward operation of threading the yarn through the package tube. It must therefore be the aim to eliminate this threading operation through the package tube or to arrange for the performance of this operation where it does not interfere with the continuan-ce of the twisting operation.
The present invention solves the problem by providing a facility for the preparation of the winding-off package in the form of a pneumatic threading device. This permits the package carrier containing the winding-off package to be mounted on the threading device and the yarn to be threaded thereon. The threading device may be connected7 through an interposed valve preferably adapted to be opened by axial thrust, to a suction pipe extending along the length of the machine.
In order to permit the machine to be operated in the contemplated way the package carrier may be provided with an externally coned double bearing for insertion into a correspondingly shaped tapering socket in the revolving member of the spindle. Furthermore, the revolving plate of the spindle may be slitted or slotted into the yarn outlet channel and the socket aligning with the channel likewise slit, preferably radial-ly. These features are described and claimed in my co-pending application Serial No. 353,718.
lt is also advisable to construct the balloon limiter in such a way that it can be hingeably swung open to permit the package carrier to be dofed. Such arrangements are likewise the subject matter of an earlier as yet unpublished proposal. The same applies to means for stopping the spind-le in a particular position, i.e., in a position in which the slit or slot in the plate points forwards. This is done by first braking the spindle until it stops and then releasing the brake and allowing the spindle to turn until retained in the required position by an -arresting means.
Since the operation of threading the yarn through the package tube until the end projects from the bottom of the carrier is not performed on the twisting spindle, the unproductive idle time can be materially reduced. This applies particularly if, in addition to the special threading facility, a preferably bow-sha-ped rest is provided, preferably immediately below the threading facility, for keeping the prepared winding-olf package carrier in readiness. The operator can then place the prepared winding-olf package carrier on this rest until it is required, either because the working package has been completely unwound or because the thread has broken. The package carrier which is then dofled can take the place of the prepared carrier on the rest until it is to be charged and freshly threaded on the threading facility. The equipment proposed by the invention can also be used in such manner that the threading facility always remains empty and is used only for rethreading the yarn and rejoining it at the associated twisting point when the yarn has broken. This would not be possib-le if a prepared package carrier were always kept on the threading facility. The threading facility can be kept free because of the presence of the bow-shaped rest upon which the pre-pared package Icarrier is temporarily kept until required for replacing a package that has been completely unwound.
A preferred embodiment of the invention is shown in the drawings and will be hereinafter described, further features of the invention being disclosed as the description proceeds.

In a :manner known to the art, a conventional doub-letwist frame 1 is provided with tangential belt drive, the belt being indicated at 2 together with a backing roller 3. The belt drives the wharve 4 to which the gathering (storage) disc 5 is attached. This is tof integral construction with the revolvable plate 6. The carrier 7 for the winding-off package S has a taper bearing 9 which i-s insertable into a taper socket 10 in the plate 6. In order to permit the package carrier 7 to be easily dofed the balloon limiter 11 is hingeable and preferably retained in close position by magnets 12.
The plate 6 is provided with a radial slit or slot 13 which extends into the taper socket 10.
The yarn 14 which is wound off package 8 is taken in the usual way through the package tube 15 and a slit or slot 13 to the outside. The yarn then forms a balloon 16 and is taken through the thread guide 17 over a drawoif roller 18 and package building lever 19 to the friction roller Ztl which drives the winding-on package 21. In order to prevent the yarn which travels upwards to the balloon from being pulled out of the slit 13 a retainer 22 is provided under which the yarn runs.
Directly below the twist spindle is a preparing facility 23. This comprises a receptacle 24 which communicates through a channel 25 with a suction pipe 26 extending along the length of the frame. Receptacle 24 contains a sliding sleeve 27 loaded by a spring 28. The sliding sleeve forms a socket 29 which fits the taper bearing member 9 of the winding-olf package carrier 7. The taper socket 29 is provided with a seal 30 and an opening 31 which establishes communication between the interior of tube 15 and a thread chamber 32 under the seal 30. The thread chamber 32 is separated from the suction chamber 34 by a screen 33.
The preparing facility 23 is used as follows.
While twisting or doubling operation proceeds the frame operator takes a package carrier which had been previously dolfed from the rests and inserts it into the socket of the preparing facility. If the carrier had been emptied she replaces the empty tube by a fresh package. She then places the thread ends over the package tube 15. If the winding-olf package had been dolfed because the yarn had broken, the broken ends are recovered and these are placed over the package tube 15. The package carrier is then thrust axially downwards.
This action depresses the sleeve 27 against the resistance of springs 28 and establishes communication through groove 35 and passages 36 between the thread chamber 32 and suction pipe 26. The yarn is therefore sucked through the package tube and collects in several coils on screen 33 in thread chamber 32. The yarn is thus threaded at once. All the operator has to do is to put the package carrier 27 on the rest at 37 below the preparing facility. This rest consists of a support 38 which is adapted to carry the winding-olf package carrier 7 in the position illustrated in the drawing. The rest serves the following purposes:
(a) to carry the doffed package carrier when the package has been unwound or the yarn has broken and (b) to carry a threaded package carrier which is kept in readiness.
In order to ensure that the threaded yarn ends are not damaged and remain in the required position where they are needed, they are inserted into a yarn clip 39 which in the illustrated embodiment is attached to the receptacle 24 of the preparing facility 23.
When the package has been unwound or the thread has broken the operator doffs the package carrier 7 with one hand by slightly lifting it until bearing member 9 is clear of socket 10. She can then withdraw the package carrier radially from the opening balloon limiter and place it on the rest which she has meanwhile cleared with the other hand. When the operator lifts the prepared package carrier 7 in order to set it on the plate 6 of the spindle, the thread ends first remain attached to clip 39. Not until the package carrier 7 is in position will the operator release the thread ends from the clip 39 and present them to the winding-on mechanism or tie them to the thread ends depending from the winding-on package.
What I claim is:
1. A double twist frame having spindles which comprise a carrier for a winding-off package and co-operating rotary yarn-ballooning means, each carrier being detachable from the said yarn-ballooning means for removal thereof from a spinning position, and pneumatic threading means separated from the spinning position for temporarily receiving each carrier with an unthreaded package preparatory to placement of the respective carrier at the spinning position.
2. A frame according to claim 1, said carrier comprising a threading tube and the said threading means comprising a valve and suction producing means, the carrier being co-operative with the valve to open the valve :by pressure thereon and allow the yarn to be threaded by suction through the said threading tube.
3. A frame as claimed in claim 2, the said threading means comprising a thread receiving chamber adapted to be subjected to suction for drawing thread from the package thereinto by way of said threading tube and comprising a screen separating the said chamber from the suction source.
4. A frame according to claim 1 comprising a rest for a winding-off yarn package carrier in addition to the said threading means and located at a position separated from said spinning position and adjacent to said threading means.
5. A frame according to claim 4, in which the said rest is located directly below the said preparing facility.
6. A frame as claimed in claim 1, in which the pneumatic threading means separated from the spinning position comprise a thread clip for retaining thread yarn ends.
7. A frame comprising double-twist spindles each having means to support a yarn package having an axial passage through which yarn from the package can be threaded and means for ballooning and twisting the yarn emerging from said passage, the package and said support means therefor being withdrawable from the ballooning and twisting means, valve means connected to a source of suction, said support means being co-operative with said valve means to open the said valve means by pressure thereon and thereby communicating suction to said yarn and said valve means being so positioned when opened as to cause the yarn to be drawn through the said passage.

Claims (1)
1. A DOUBLE TWIST FRAME HAVING SPINDLES WHICH COMPRISE A CARRIER FOR A WINDING-OFF PACKAGE AND CO-OPERATING ROTARY YARN-BALLOONING MEANS, EACH CARRIER BEING DETACHABLE FROM THE SAID YARN-BALLOONING MEANS FOR REMOVAL THEREOF FROM A SPINNING POSITION, AND PNEUMATIC THREADING MEANS SEPARATED FROM THE SPINNING POSITION FOR TEMPORARILY RECEIVING EACH CARRIER WITH AN UNTHREADED PACKAGE PREPARATORY TO PLACEMENT OF THE RESPECTIVE CARRIER AT THE SPINNING POSITION.
