Description

(No Model.)
W. A HART.
HANDLE FOR BLOWERS.
Patented Mar. 16, 1886.
mzssea ELI/67%? a. fi M' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM A. HART, or LA SALLE, ASSIGNOR TO JOHN RoBrE, OF BUFFALO,
NEW YoRK.
HANDLE FOR BLOWERS.
LJJECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 338,227, dated March 16, 1886.
(No model.)
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A. HART, a citizen of the United States, residing at La Salle, in the county of Niagara and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Lifter for Removing Blowers from Grate- Fires, of which thefollowingis aspeoification, reference beingh ad to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows the lifter as applied to a blower. Fig. 2 shows the preferred construc tion of the lifter detached from the blower.
My invention relates to an adjustable lifter for removing the blower from before a gratefire without fear of burning the hands or clothlng.
It consists of a forked handle of such design that when it is applied to the strap-handle of a blower and slightly depressed it will be locked thereupon, and firmly and securely held, so that the blower can be lifted and safely carried about.
In Fig. 1, A is the blower. B is the strap handle, forming part of the blower, and C is the handle of my blower-lifter as applied.
In Fig. 2, Ois the handle, terminating in the fork D E E. F ,F are arms at right angles with E E, and slightly inclined toward each other. G G are points or bearing-surfaces at right angles with F F and returned toward the handle 0.
In adjusting the blower-lifter it is held perpendicularly with the fork downward and one of the arms F F and the corresponding point, G or G, facing the blower. Then byalateral er-handle.
front, the other point, G, will come to its po sition on the other side and inside surface of the blower-handle. Then, by depressing the handle of the lifter, the abutting surface D will be brought to bear upon the outside surface of the blower-handle at a point below where the points G G touch the blower-handle, thus locking the lifter thereupon. Any lateral movement is prevented by the wings E E.
I believe that the majority of strap-handles on blowers are wedge shape, in which case if the blower-lifter is raised (after having been adjusted and before becoming locked) to a point where the blowerhandle is equal in width to the distance between the inside surfaces of the wings E E, additional security is gained.
The lifter should be constructed of wire or some other form of metal havinga certain degree of flexibility, to allow of a slight bending of the arms F F inward or outward, so that the points G G may be properly adjusted to blower-handles varying in size and width.
I am aware that detachable handles have been made and used for analogous purposes; but I am not aware that any article of the kind described in this specification has ever been made or used for the purpose designated.
I therefore claim as my invention and as a new article of manufacture A blower-lifter consisting of a forked handle having the upright bends F I and the return-bends G G, substantially as and for the purpose described.
WILLIAM A. HART.
