Description

Nov. 28, 1967 N. E. CATHCART DOOR SUPPORTED ADJUSTABLE TOWEL RACK Filed Dec. 6, 1965 INVENTOR. NORMAN 5. CATHCART United States Patent 3,355,030 DQUR SUPPORTED ADJUSTABLE TOWEL RACK Norman E. Cathcart, RR. 1, White Pigeon, Mich. 49099 Filed Dec. 6, 1965, Ser. No. 512,582 1 Claim. (Cl. 211--87) ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A towel rack comprising pairs of opposed brackets attached to the top and bottom edges of a panel, a pair of vertically extending chains between the brackets and a plurality of horizontally extending towel supporting bars supported between the chains.
This invention generally relates to towel bars and more particularly to adjustable towel bars.
An object of the invention is to provide a towel bar which is simple in construction and easy to install.
Another object of the invention is to provide drying space, not only for towels but any other small garments, in an otherwise unused space.
Still another object of the invention is that when not in use, it can be taken down, folded up and stored. The invention can also be packed in a suitcase and taken on trips for use in drying any article.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
FIGURE 1 shows one of four brackets, all four the same, the chain being in place;
FIGURE 2 is detail of chain going through towel bar with clip in position;
FIGURE 3 shows the whole towel bar in position on door.
In carrying out the invention, referring now specifically to the drawing, there are provided four brackets all the same, as in FIGURE 1, formed of metal to fit over a door and to clear all trim. Flap A is stamped out of side of bracket with a Keyhole Slot B cut out of Flap A. Chain C is hooked into Keyhole Slot B and sprung into Slot D.
There are five or more Bars E made of any rigid material with holes F in both ends of Bar E. Chain C is put through holes F in Bar E and sprung into Slot D and locked into place in Slot B on bracket at bottom of door; repeating the above procedure on the two remaining brackets.
Bars can be adjusted to any height desired and kept in place by Spring Clip G.
The foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the invention. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the invention to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus completely and fully described the invention, what is now claimed as new is as follows:
A towel rack comprising a pair of spaced, opposed vertically extending chain elements, a plurality of horizontal elongate towel supporting bars extending between said chains, each of said bars having an aperture adjacent the end thereof, said chains extending through said apertures, means comprising a spring clip on said bar adjacent said apertures for attaching said chains to said bars, means for attaching the upper and lower ends of each chain on a vertically extending panel, said supporting means comprising a bracket having a hook element adapted to be hooked over the top and bottom edges of said panel, a flap stamped out of and extending from a wall of said hook element, said flap having a slot therein, an end of each said chain attached in said slot, and an element projecting outwardly from said bracket below said flap and said chain passing over said element to space said chains laterally from said panel.
