W/M/AM ROSEAIZM E/G no.4 M Ma D United States Patent Ofifice 3,222,688 ADJUSTABLE STRAP William Rosenzweig, Roslyn, N.Y., assignor, by direct and mesue assignments, to Fashion Development Corporation, New York, N.Y., a corporation of New York Filed Sept. 17, 1963, Ser. No. 309,558 9 Claims. (Cl. 2323) This invention relates to an :adjustable strap for articles of clothing, especially brassieres and slips.
An object of the present invention is to provide an adjustable strap of the type indicated in my copending US. patent application Serial No. 284,589 filed May 31, 1963, wherein the strap has many of the characteristics of the strap of my copending patent application and yet is simpler to manufacture, especially on automatic strap-making machines.
A further object is generally to provide a strap of improved construction.
The above and other objects, features and advantages of the invention will be more clearly understood from the following description of the invention considered in connection with the accompanying illustrative drawing in which:
FIG. 1A illustrates the strap of the present invention incorporated in a brassiere;
FIG. 2A is a side elevational view of the strap;
FIG. 3A is a side elevational view of the strap according to another form of the invention;
FIG. 4A is a side elevational view of the strap according to a still further form of the invention;
FIG. 5A is a side elevational view of the strap in accordance with another form of the invention;
FIG. 6A is a side elevational view of the strap in accordance with a still further form of the invention;
FIG. 7A is a perspective view of an adjusting buckle for the strap;
FIG. 8A is a perspective view of an anchorage buckle for the strap; and
FIG. 9A is a perspective view of another anchorage buckle according to a modification.
Referring now to the drawing in detail and first to FIGS. 1A, 2A, 7A and 8A, the strap 110 comprises an anchorage buckle 112, an adjusting buckle 114, and a threaded ribbon or tape 116 interconnecting the buckles in the manner shown. The tape is threaded through the anchorage buckle in a manner to hold the anchorage buckle in fixed position on the tape. The tape is threaded through the adjusting buckle in a manner which, when the tape is slightly loosened on the adjusting buckle, the latter may he slid along the tape for adjusting the overall length of the tape. When the tape is tightened on the adjusting buckle it locks the adjusting buckle in its adjusted position, and pulling forces at the opposite garment connecting ends of the tape do not move the adjusting buckle or otherwise vary the adjusted strap length.
The anchorage buckle 112 comprises a first cross bar 118, a second cross bar 120 spaced from said first cross bar and thereby forming a first aperture 122. A third cross bar 124 is provided spaced from said second cross bar 120 and thereby forming a second aperture 126. A fourth cross bar 128 is also provided spaced from said third cross bar 124 and thereby forming a third aperture 130.
The adjusting buckle 114 comprises a first end cross bar 132 and an intermediate cross bar 134 spaced from said end cross bar and thereby forming .a first aperture 136. A second end cross bar 138 is also provided spaced from the intermediate cross bar 134 and thereby forming a second aperture 140.
The threading of tape 116 through anchorage buckle 3,222,688 Patented Dec. 14, 1965 112 and adjusting buckle 114 may be described as follows, as illustrated by FIG. 2A. The tape passes through the first aperture 122 of the anchorage buckle, over the second cross bar and third cross bar 124 of the anchorage buckle and through the third aperture thereof, under the third cross bar 124 of the anchorage buckle and through the second aperture 126 thereof, over the second cross bar 120 of the anchorage buckle and again through the first aperture 122 thereof, under the second cross bar 120 and third cross bar 124 of the anchorage buckle and again through the third aperture 130 thereof, on to the adjusting buckle and over the first end cross bar 132 thereof, over the intermediate cross bar 134 of the adjusting buckle and through the second aperture 136 thereof, under the intermediate cross bar 134 and through the first aperture 141) of the adjusting buckle, back to the anchorage buckle and over the fourth cross bar 128 thereof, again through the third aperture 130 of the anchorage buckle and back to the adjusting buckle, over the first end cross bar 132 of the adjusting buckle, again through the first aperture 146 of the adjusting buckle and under the intermediate cross bar 134 thereof, again through the second aperture 136 of the adjusting buckle and over the second end cross bar 138 thereof.
It is to be noted with respect to FIG. 2A and the other forms of the strap that the tape passes from one side of the anchorage buckle to the opposite side before it goes on to the adjusting buckle, and that the adjusting buckle is provided with one intermediate cross bar only.
In FIG. 3A, the tape passes over cross bars 118 and 12d of the anchorage buckle, then through aperture 126, under cross bar 120, through aperture 122, over and around cross bar 118, undercross bars 118 and 120 and again through aperture 126, over cross bar 124 and 128 and continues on to the adjusting buckle in the like manner as described with respect to the strap illustrated by FIG. 2A.
The strap illustrated by FIG. 4A is the same as the one illustrated by FIG. 3A except that the tape, instead of going again through aperture 126, goes through aperture 138.
The strap illustrated by FIG. 5A is the same as the one illustrated by FIG. 3A except that the tape, instead of going over end cross bar 132 of the adjusting buckle and then through aperture 141) thereof, goes under end cross bar 132, by-passes aperture and then goes again through aperture 136.
The strap illustrated by FIG. 6A includes an anchorage buckle 112' that is provided with a fifth cross bar 142 spaced from the fourth cross bar 128 to form a fourth aperture 144. Otherwise the strap is similar to the one illustrated by FIG. 2A with the strap passing over cross bar 142 and through aperture 144 as it returns from the adjusting buckle, instead of going back through aperture 130.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it will be understood that the invention may be embodied otherwise than as herein specifically illustrated or described, and that certain changes in the form and arrangement of parts and in the specific manner of practicing the invention may be made without departing from the underlying ideas or principles of this invention within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim:
1. An adjustable strap, comprising an anchorage buckle having first, second and third cross bars and first and second apertures, an adjusting buckle having first, second and third cross bars only and first and second apertures only, and a tape passing on one side of the first and second cross bars of the anchorage buckle, then in a first passage through the second aperture of the anchorage a buckle to the other side of said anchorage buckle, then around the second cross bar of the anchorage buckle, then in a second passage through the first aperture of said anchorage buckle to said one side of said anchorage buckle, then around the first cross bar of said anchorage buckle to the other side of said anchorage buckle, then past said first and second cross bars of said anchorage buckle at said other side thereof, then in a third passage through an aperture of said anchorage buckle to said one side thereof, then through an aperture of said adjusting buckle, around a cross bar of said adjusting buckle, back to the anchorage buckle and around said third cross bar thereof, in a fourth passage through an aperture thereof, then back to said adjusting buckle and through an aperture thereof, said third passage through said anchorage buckle being disposed between said first and fourth passages through said anchorage buckle.
2. An adjustable strap, comprising an anchorage buckle having first, second and third cross bars and first and second apertures, an adjusting buckle having first, second and third cross bars only and first and second apertures only, and a tape passing on one side of the first and second cross bars of the anchorage buckle, then in a first passage through the second aperture of the anchorage buckle to the other side of said anchorage buckle, then around the second cross bar of the anchorage buckle, then in a second passage through the first aperture of said anchorage buckle to said one side of said anchorage buckle, then around the first cross bar of said anchorage buckle to the other side of said anchorage buckle, then past said first and second cross bars of said anchorage buckle at said other side thereof, then in a third passage through an aperture of said anchorage buckle to said one side thereof, then through said second aperture of said adjusting buckle and around said second cross bar thereof, through said first aperture of said adjusting buckle and back to said anchorage buckle and in a fourth passage through an aperture of said anchorage buckle and around said third cross bar thereof, then back to said adjusting buckle and through said first aperture thereof, around said second cross bar of said adjusting buckle and through said second aperture thereof, said third passage through said anchorage buckle being disposed between said first and fourth passages through said anchorage buckle, said first cross bar of said anchorage buckle being an end cross bar of said buckle.
3. An adjustable strap, comprising an anchorage buckle having first, second and third cross bars and first and second apertures, an adjusting buckle having first, second and third cross bars only and first and second apertures only, and a tape passing on one side of the first and second cross bars of the anchorage buckle, then in a first passage through the second aperture of the anchorage buckle to the other side of said anchorage buckle, then around the second cross bar of the anchorage buckle, then in a second passage through the first aperture of said anchorage buckle to said one side of said anchorage buckle, then around the first cross bar of said anchorage buckle to the other side of said anchorage buckle, then past said first and second cross bars of said anchorage buckle at said other side thereof, then in a third passage through an aperture of said anchorage buckle to said one side thereof, then through said second aperture of said adjusting buckle and around said second cross bar thereof, through said first aperture of said adjusting buckle and back to said anchorage buckle and in a fourth passage through an aperture of said anchorage buckle and around said third cross bar thereof, then back to said adjusting buckle and through said second aperture thereof, said third passage through said anchorage buckle being disposed between said first and fourth passages through said anchorage buckle.
4. An adjustable strap, comprising an anchorage buckle having first, second, third and fourth cross bars and first, second and third apertures, an adjusting buckle having first, second and third cross bars only and first and second apertures only, and a tape passing through said first aperture of said anchorage buckle, over said second and third cross bars of said anchorage buckle, through said third aperture of said anchorage buckle, around said third cross bar of said anchorage buckle and through said second aperture thereof, around said second cross bar of said anchorage buckle and through said first aperture thereof, past said second and third cross bars of said anchorage buckle and through said third aperture thereof, on to said adjusting buckle and over said first and second cross bars thereof, through said second aperture of said adjusting buckle and around said second cross bar thereof, through said first aperture of said adjusting buckle, back to said anchorage buckle and around said fourth cross bar thereof and through said third aperture of said anchorage buckle, back to said adjusting buckle and through said first aperture thereof, around said second cross bar of said adjusting buckle and through said second aperture thereof.
5. An adjustable strap, comprising an anchorage buckle having first, second, third and fourth cross bars and first, second and third apertures, an adjusting buckle having first, second and third cross bars only and first and second apertures only, and a tape passing over said first and second cross bars of said anchorage buckle and through said second aperture thereof, around said second cross bar of said anchorage buckle and through said first aperture thereof, around said first cross bar of said anchorage buckle and past said first and second cross bars thereof, back through said second aperture of said anchorage buckle and over said third and fourth cross bars of said anchorage buckle, on to said adjusting buckle and over said first and second cross bars thereof, through said second aperture of said adjusting buckle and around said second cross bar thereof, through said first aperture of said adjusting buckle, back to said anchorage buckle and around said fourth cross bar thereof and through said third aperture of said anchorage buckle, back to said adjusting buckle and through said first aperture thereof, around said second cross bar of said adjusting buckle and through said second aperture thereof.
6. An adjustable strap, comprising an anchorage buckle having first, second, third and fourth cross bars and first, second and third apertures, an adjusting buckle having first, second and third cross bars only and first and second apertures only, and a tape passing over said first and second cross bars of said anchorage buckle and through said second aperture thereof, around said second cross bar of said anchorage buckle and through said first aperture thereof, around said first cross bar of said anchorage buckle and past said first, second and third cross bars of said anchorage buckle and through said third aperture thereof, over said fourth cross bar of said anchorage buckle, on to said adjusting buckle and over said first and second cross bars thereof, through said second aperture of said adjusting buckle and around said second cross bar thereof, through said first aperture of said adjusting buckle, back to said anchorage buckle and around said fourth cross bar thereof and through said third aperture of said anchorage buckle, back to said adjusting buckle and through said first aperture thereof, around said second cross bar of said adjusting buckle and through said second aperture thereof.
7. An adjustable strap, comprising an anchorage buckle having first, second, third and fourth cross bars and first, second and third apertures, an adjusting buckle having first, second and third cross bars only and first and second apertures only, and a tape passing over said first and second cross bars of said anchorage buckle and through said second aperture thereof, around said second cross bar of said anchorage buckle and through said first aperture thereof, around said first cross bar of said anchorage buckle and past said first and second cross bars thereof, back through said second aperture of said anchorage buckle and over said ird. and fourth cross bars of said anchorage buckle, on to said adjusting buckle and over said first and second cross bars thereof, through said second aperture of said adjusting buckle and around said second cross bar thereof, through said first aperture of said adjusting buckle, back to said anchorage buckle and around said fourth cross bar thereof and through said third aperture of said anchorage buckle, back to said adjusting buckle and through said second aperture thereof.

An adjustable strap, comprising an anchorage buckle having first, second, third, fourth and fifth cross bars and first, second, third and fourth apertures, an adjusting buckle having first, second and third cross bars only and first and second apertures only, and a tape passing through said first aperture of said anchorage buckle, over said second and third cross bars of said anchorage buckle, through said third aperture of said anchorage buckle, around said third cross bar of said anchorage buckle and through said second aperture thereof, around said second cross bar of said anchorage buckle and through said first aperture thereof, past said second and third cross bars of said anchorage buckle and through said third aperture thereof, on to said adjusting buckle and over said first and second cross bars thereof, through said second aperture of said adjusting buckle and around said second cross bar thereof, through said first aperture of said adjusting buckle, back to said anchorage buckle and around said fifth cross bar thereof and through said fourth aperture of said anchorage buckle, back to said adjusting buckle and through said first aperture thereof, around said second cross bar of said adjusting buckle and through said second aperture thereof.
9. An adjustable strap, comprising an anchorage buckle having first, second, third and fourth cross bars and first, second and third apertures, an adjusting buckle having first, second and third cross bars only and first and second apertures only, and a tape passing on one side of said anchorage buckle over a pair of adjacent first and second cross bars, then in a first passage through a first aperture adjacent said pair of cross bars to the other side of said anchorage buckle, then around the second cross bar of said pair and in a second passage through the second aperture of said anchorage buckle between said first and second cross bars of said pair to said one side of said anchorage buckle, then around the first cross bar of said anchorage buckle to the other side of said anchorage buckle, then past said first and second cross bars of said anchorage buckle at said other side thereof, then in a third passage through an aperture of said anchorage buckle to said one side thereof, then through an aperture of said adjusting buckle, around a cross bar of said adjusting buckle, back to the anchorage buckle and in a fourth passage through an aperture of said anchorage buckle and around said third cross bar thereof, then back to said adjusting buckle and through an aperture thereof, said third passage being disposed between said first and fourth passages through said anchorage buckle, and said first cross bar of said pair of cross bars being an end cross baf of said anchorage buckle.

1. AN ADJUSTABLE STRAP, COMPRISING AN ANCHORAGE BUCKLE HAVING FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD CROSS BARS AND FIRST AND SECOND APERTURES, AN ADJUSTING BUCKLE HAVING FIRST, SECOND AND THIRD CROSS BARS ONLY AND FIRST AND SECOND APERTURES ONLY, AND A TAPE PASSING ON ONE SIDE OF THE FIRST AND SECOND CROSS BARS OF THE ANCHORAGE BUCKLE, THEN IN A FIRST PASSAGE THROUGH THE SECOND APERTURE OF THE ANCHORAGE BUCKLE TO THE OTHER SIDE OF SAID ANCHORAGE BUCKLE, THEN AROUND THE SECOND CROSS BAR OF THE ANCHORAGE BUCKLE, THEN IN A SECOND PASSAGE THROUGH THE FIRST APERTURE OF SAID ANCHORAGE BUCKLE TO SAID ONE SIDE OF SAID ANCHORAGE BUCKLE, THEN AROUND THE FIRST CROSS BAR OF SAID ANCHORAGE BUCKLE TO THE OTHER SIDE OF SAID ANCHORAGE BUCKLE, THEN PAST SAID FIRST AND SECOND CROSS BARS OF SAID ANCHORAGE BUCKLE AT SAID OTHER SIDE THEREOF, THEN IN A THIRD PASSAGE THROUGH AN APERTURE OF SAID ANCHORAGE BUCKLE TO SAID ONE SIDE THEREOF, THEN THROUGH AN APERTURE OF SAID ADJUSTING BUCKLE, AROUND A CROSS BAR OF SAID ADJUSTING BUCKLE, BACK TO THE ANCHORAGE BUCKLE AND AROUND SAID THIRD CROSS BAR THEREOF, IN A FOURTH PASSAGE THROUGH SAID ANCHORAGE THEN BACK TO SAID ADJUSTING BUCKLE AND THROUGH AN APERTURE THEREOF, SAID THIRD PASSAGE THROUGH SAID ANCHORAGE BUCKLE BEING DISPOSED BETWEEN SAID FIRST AND FOURTH PASSAGES THROUGH SAID ANCHORAGE BUCKLE.
