(Cl. 46-116) This invention is a combined garment hanger, holder, doll and book and is a continuation-in-part of copending US. application Serial No. 299,756 filed August 5, 1963, now abandoned, and Serial No. 311,863 filed September 26, 1963, now abandoned.

One of the principal objects of the present invention is to provide an improved device which incorporates utility and recreation, and which functions as a garment hanger, holder, doll and book.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a device designed to be utilized as a holder for a garment, either for display purposes or for home use, and which, in an embodiment thereof, incorporates therein a coloring book, the device being usable by a child as an educational toy or plaything.

A still further object of the present invention is to provide a utilitarian and educational device which may be utilized as a garment holder for display purposes or for home use in the form of an artistic representation, such as a doll, which device constitutes a coloring book or the like so that the device may be used for multiple purposes.

Yet another object of the present invention is to provide means in said device for correctly supporting and maintaining a garment thereon.

Another object of the present invention is to provide a combined utilitarian and recreational device of the aforementioned class, which is economical, efficient, practical and aethetic.

These and other objects and advantages of the present invention will appear as the description proceeds, it being understood, however, that it is not intended that the invention be limited to the exact details described herein which illustrate the production of satisfactory examples many of which may be obtained as a result of the knowledge gained through or gleaned from an understanding of the invention; and it is further intended that there be included as part of the invention all such obvious changes and modifications thereof as would occur to a person skilled in the art to which this invention pertains and as would fall within the scope of the claims appended hereto.

Referring more particularly to the drawings, numeral 10 generally indicates a flat pate or blank cut preferably from a single sheet of fiberboard, such as cardboard, by any suitable means, such as die-cutting or hand-cutting. Plate or sheet 10 constitutes the back cover of the book. The rear face 19a of plate 10 may carry suitable indicia or illustrations 10b, depicting the back of a little girl or other form.

The rear blank or plate comprises a body portion 11, at one end of which depends the lower limbs representation 12 and from the upper portion of which extends a face and head representation 13. Extending upwardly from portion 13 is hook portion 14 forming a layer of the garment hanger. Plate 10 has a pair of oppositely directed, substantially V-shaped cut-outs 15, formed substantially at the juncture of body portion 11 and the face and head portion 13 for the purpose hereinafter described.

It can be seen that the peripheral delineation of portion 13 is such as to simulate the hair portion of the head, the peripheral delineation of body portion 11 is such as to simulate the contour of arms and skirt portions, and the peripheral delineation of portion 12 is such as to simulate legs and feet.

The front face of plate or sheet 10 may carry a fanciful illustration of a child, for example, a little girl, the rear face Illa of plate 10 forming the back of the child. This fanciful illustration, as well as the back of the child, may be printed either directly on both faces of blank or sheet 10, or may be printed separately on separate members and suitably secured thereon.

As clearly seen in the drawings, the entire device generally indicated by the numeral 20 constitutes a book having a plurality of plates, sheets or pages with hooked registering portions or extensions constituting a hanger means, two of which, pages or

It is intended to form each of the front and back covers 23 and 15) as well as the

21, 22, etc., with registering cut-outs 15 so that the device may suitably support various sizes of garments for which purpose cut-outs 15 are made substantially wedge-shaped so that the garment around contiguous neck and shoulder portions thereof may be inserted and wedged in the notches 18 formed by the cut-outs 15.

21, 22, etc., are co-terminus with corresponding contour portions thereof, and each sheet constitutes a reinforcing element for providing a substantial hanger and holder for the garment.

The purpose of contouring the book portion of the device in the manner described herein is to provide multiple pages, each one depicting a doll having an article of dress which may be suitably colored, for example, by the child, thus providing the device with simulated garments for the doll. FIG. 4 depicts page 21 arranged and designed for such purpose.

FIGS. 5, 6 and 7 illustrate the application of a garment to the device for display purposes or for home use.

In practical application, the garment, such as a dress 26, is adjusted n the device with contiguous neck and shoulder portions 26a thereof inserted and wedged within cut-outs 15. The garment may be displayed in a store.

It can be readily seen that this device may accommodate ditferent sizes of garments. The device carrying the dress may be hung on a conventional bar or rod in a store by means of hook 14. When the garment is purchased by the customer, the device may be included with the purchase of the garment. The device may be then used by the wearer of the dress as a toy or doll as is, or as a coloring book, or for the purpose of dressing the doll in various garments which may be available to the child. When used as a coloring book, the child may color pages to simulate a wardrobe for the doll.

It is understood that the device may assume any desired form and illustrate, for example, a little boy, or possibly an animal. The reference to the term doll in the specification and claims may comprise a representation of a child, animal or any fanciful figure.

From the foregoing, it is apparent that there has been provided by this invention a utilitarian and recreational device comprising a combined hanger, garment holder, doll and book, where in the doll portion, per se, consists of any one or more of the

23, 10, 21, 22, etc., each of which is preferably a single blank cut to form a body portion 11, limb portion 12 and head portion 13, a hanger portion 14 extending upwardly from the head portion 13, the head portion having lateral extensions 13a simulating hair, joined to the upper end of the body portion 11, and a book 20 which comprises a plurality of plates providing a back cover constituted by the blank 10, substantially fiat members providing a front cover 23 and a plurality of intermediate pages or leaves 21, 22, etc., this book serving as an educational and recreational plaything for a child, such as for coloring purposes, the oppositely-disposed cut-outs 15 being formed at the juncture of the head and body portions providing wedge-shaped notches to accommodate contiguous neck and shoulder portions of a garment 26, supported by the device.

According to FIGS. 1 to 5, inclusive, the entire device generally indicated by the numeral (FIG. 1) constitutes the book having a plurality of pages. According to FIGS. 8 and 9, only the body portion 11 constitutes the back cover of the book, and 24a the front cover of the book, with the book having

21a, 23a, and as many more pages as may be desired. By means of the central portion of the garment holder, the device is thereby thickened, providing more substance at this area to be contained within the garment when displayed on the device. Hook 14 of plate 10 provides supporting means for the device when used. The front cover 24a and said pages simulate a covering for the body portion 11.

FIGS. 10, 11 and 12 disclose a fiat member suitable for the front cover or back cover, but having the complete contour of a child, in which case the intermediate pages would have the same contour. It consists of sheet or blank 10a cut from a single sheet of fiberboard, such as cardboard, by any suitable means, such as die-cutting or hand-cutting. This member comprises a body portion 11a (contoured at its left side as well as its right side), at one end of which depends the lower limbs representation 12,

heretofore described, and from the upper portion of which I extends the face and head representation 13. Extending upwardly from portion 13 is hook portion 14 of the garment holder, as heretofore described. The blank 10a has a pair of oppositely-directed, substantially V-shaped cut-outs 15, as heretofore described. Plate or sheet 10a carried a fanciful illustration of a child, for example, a little girl, being depicted in a etticoat 16, carrying a toy '4 or other object 17. This fanciful illustration may be printed either directly on the blank or sheet 10a, or may be printed separately on a separate member and suitably secured thereon.

Although the drawings and the above specification disclosedthe best modes in which the embodiments of the invention are contemplated, it is desired in no way to be limited to details of such disclosure, for further practical application of the invention may be made as circumstances require or experience suggests without departing from the spirit of the invention within the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. Combined garment hanger, holder, doll and hook comprising a plurality of registering, contoured plates, each of said plates having a body simulating portion, a head simulating portion extending from one end of said body simulating portion and a limb simulating portion extending from the other end of said body simulating portion representing a doll, said head simulating portion being provided with means for hanging said plates, said plates being hinged together constituting a book, and registering, oppositely-disposed, inwardly directed, substantially V- shaped cut-outs adjacent the juncture of said head and body portions, said cut-outs providing substantially wedgeshaped notch-es accommodating continguous neck and shoulder portions of a garment when supported by said book.

2. Combined garment hanger, holder, doll and book comprising a plurality of registering, contoured plates, each of said plates having a body simulating portion, a head simulating portion extending from one end of said body simulating portion and a limb simulating portion extending from the ther end of said body simulating portion representing a doll, and an extension from said head simulating portion, said extensions being in register constituting a hanger means for said garment, said plates being hinged together at a side thereof constituting a book, and registering, oppositely-disposed, inwardly directed cut-outs adjacent the juncture of said head and body portions providing substantially wedge-shaped notches accommodating contiguous neck and shoulder portions of a garment when supported by said book.

Combined hanger, garment holder, doll and book comprising a contoured plate representing a doll having a body simulating portion, a head simulating portion extending from one end of said body simulating portion and a limb simulating portion extending from the other end of said body simulating portion, said head simulating portion being provided with means for hanging said plate, and a plurality of flat members hinged to said body portion, said members and said body portion constituting a book, and oppositely-disposed, inwardly directed, substantially V-shaped cut-outs adjacent the juncture of said head and body portions and the upper ends of said members providing substantially wedge-shaped notches accommodating contiguous neck and shoulder portions of a garment when supported by said book.

Combined hanger, garment holder, doll and book comprising a contoured plate representing a doll having a body simulating portion, a head simulating portion extending from one end of said body simulating portion and a limb simulating portion extending from the other end of said body simulating portion, said head simulating portion being provided with means for hanging said plate, and a plurality of flat members hinged to said body portion, said members and said body portion constituting a book, said head simulating portion having lateral exten- SlOl'lS joined to the upper end of said body portion, and oppositely-disposed, inwardly directed, substantially V- shaped cut-outs adjacent the juncture of said head and body portions and the upper ends of said members providing wedge-shaped notches accommodating contiguous neck and shoulder portions of a garment when supported by said book.

5. Claims

1. COMBINED GARMENT HANGER, HOLDER, DOLL AND BOOK COMPRISING A PLURALITY OF REGISTERING, CONTOURED PLATES, EACH OF SAID PLATES HAVING A BODY SIMULATING PORTION, A HEAD SIMULATING PORTION EXTENDING FROM ONE END OF SAID BODY SIMULATING PORTION AND A LIMB SIMULATING PORTION EXTENDING FROM THE OTHER END OF SAID BODY SIMULATING PORTION REPRESENTING A DOLL, SID HEAD SIMULATING PORTION BEING PROVIDED WITH MEANS FOR HANGING SAID PLATES, SAID PLATES BEING HINGED TOGETHER CONSTITUTING A BOOK, AND REGISTERING OPPOSITELY-DISPOSED, INWARDLY DIRECTED, SUBSTANTIALLY VSHAPED CUT-OUTS ADJACENT THE JUNCTURE OF SAID HEAD AND BODY PORTIONS, SAID CUT-OUTS PROVIDING SUBSTANTIALLY WEDGESHAPED NOTCHES ACCOMMODATING CONTIGUOUS NECK AND SHOULDER PORTIONS OF A GARMENT WHEN SUPPORTED BY SAID BOOK.
