(Cl. 139-249) The present invention relates to an improve-d magazine or bobbin battery arranged at a loom for the receipt of weft-bobbins to be knocked-into .a shuttle of the type comprising two drum disks or plates between which the bobbins are held, lone of which disks exhibit flaps or holders which are under a spring pressure for receiving the tips or small-ends of the bobbins.
The subject invention essentially aims at rendering easier the insertion of the weft-bobbins in a drum magazine -or battery. In known drum magazines or bobbin batteries intermediate spaces are present between the individual flaps r holders since the division of the drum disk, that is to say, the distance from one bobbin to the other is larger than the width of the ilaps. Upon insertion of the bobbins it is thus necessary to observe that the weft-bobbins do not become lodged in these intermedirate spaces between the tip holders or iiaps, since then on the one hand the wood of the bobbin tip is damaged and, on the other hand, the yarn layers of the bobbin body get into disorder. The necessity of observing that the bob-bins do not become lod-ged between the laps or tip holders considerably renders more dilicult manual bobbin insertion. It will be appreciated that with careless insertion the bobbins are damaged.
Due to the construction of the flaps or tip holders which will be later described, the present invention renders it possible to overcome these disadvantages and permits -of quicker insertion of the bobbins in the bobbin battery, so that by means of a single bobbin inserter considerably more looms can :be serviced, and there is minimized the danger that the yarn will be stripped-oilE of the bobbin body or carrier.
The present invention is essentially characterized in that the width of the flaps or tip holders which are arranged on the drum disk without intermediate spaces corresponds to the division of the drum disk, that is to say, with the distance from one bobbin to the other, and that the flaps or tip holders exhibit guide surfaces in the form of beveled or slanted faces for guiding the bobbins in their correct position.
Accordingly, it is an important object of the present invention to provide an improved lbobbin battery permitting insertion of bobbins or the like in an easy and quick manner.
A further important object of the present invention is to provide an improved construction of small-end bobbin disk for a bobbin battery or rotary magazine which enables insertion of bobbins or the like in a quick and reliable manner without causing damage to said bobbins.
Still Va further important object of the present invention is to provide an improved bobbin disk construction for receiving the tips of bobbins and the like, particularly -for use in conjunction with looms, comprising an improved tip holder for each bobbin provided with guide surfaces for receiving the small-end or tip of the bobbin, wherein said tip holders are arranged on said bobbin disk without intermediate spaces, that is to say the width of each tip holder corresponds or substantially corresponds to the spacing -between adjacently disposed bobbins.
Yet a further important object of the present invention is to provide an improved bobbin disk for the tips or small-ends of bobbins which is relatively simple in con- Patented Aug. 17, 1965 struction, permits easy insertion of said bobbins, prevents damage to the bobbins as well as ensuring that the yarn layers carried on the bobbin Ibody are not disrupted in their arrangement.
These and still further objects and the entire scope of applicability of the present invention will become apparent from the detailed description given hereinafter; it should be understood, however, that the detailed description and specific example, while indicating a preferred embodiment of the invention, is given by way of illustration only, since various changes and modifications within the spirit and scope of the invention will become apparent to those skilled in the art from this detailed description.

Referring now to the drawing, it will be appreciated that only enough of the bobbin battery structure has been illustrated to enable one to fully understand the teachings of the present invention. Since the invention is primarily directed to the improved construction of disk member and tip holders for the small-ends or tips of the bobbins, for convenience in illustration there has been omitted the usual parts of the loom battery which are known to the art and are not considered important for understanding the underlying principles of my invention. Thus, .by referring to FIGURE 1 it will be seen that there is provided a bobbin battery or rotary magazine comprising la disk member adapted to receive land support the tips or small-ends 23 0f bobbins 24 or the like which essentially consists of a plate 11i formed of cast iron for example. For convenience in illustration I have omitted showing the other plate member defining the bobbin-base disk for supporting the bases 24a of the bobbins 24, in a manner familiar to the art. The plate lil exhibits a ring member 13 provided with a circular-shaped groove 13a. Radially outwardly extending arms 27 are connected to the ring member 13 which in turn are connected to one another via a further ring member 16. It will be seen that ring member 16 is spaced a greater radial distance from the center of plate 1i) than the ring member 13. This ring member 16 exhibits circular recesses or sockets ida between the arms 27, the recesses being circularly arranged and circumferentially spaced about the same as will be seen from the drawing.
Flaps or tip holders 11 are embedded in the cast-iron plate lil of the bobbin small-end disk which advantageously are produced from a synthetic material, for example plastic. In FIGURE l a number of these flaps or tip holders 1l have been omitted so that the form of the castiron plate 10 is more readily visible. Each tip holder 11 for the bobbins 24 includes a body member incorporating a downwardly extending leg 12a, the inner end 12 of which is suspended or mounted in the groove 13a of the ring member V13 (FIG. 3). In the middle region of each tip holder l1 near the upper extremity of leg 12a and at the rear face of the holder there is provided a semi-spherical bulge or projection 14 against which bears one end of a compression spring 1S, the other end of which .bears against a confronting recess or socket 16a of the ring member 16. Additionally, a web 17 is provided on the tip holder 11 which exhibits a cam or dog 18 possessing two stop faces 19 for the upper ends or parts 27a of two bo'bbin-base disk.

The prestressed` spring has the function to press the cam 1S with the stop faces 19 against each of these two neighboring arms 27 in the event that a bob'bin 24 is not located in the rotary magazine or bobbin battery, that is to say, when a bobbin is not located in an associated tip holder 11, as best shown in FIGURE 3.
Each tip holder or flap 11 further exhibits a semispherical groove or recess 22 which serves to receive a respective -boobin tip or small-end 23 of the bobbins 24. At both sides of this ysemi-spherical shaped groove or recess 22 there are provided two funnel-shaped beveled or slanted faces and 26 which have the function, upon insertion of a bobbin 24 in the magazine or battery, to guide the bobbin tip 23 such that it positively extends into the semi-spherical shaped receiving-groove or recess 22. It will be seen from the drawing that each holder memc ber 11 is symmetrical about its longitudinal central axis. It will further fbe seen that the laterally extending leg 12a of each tip holder 11 includes a further laterally extending leg portion 12b adapted to seat upon the upper face 13b of the ring member 13.
The mode of operation of the described is as follows:
The bobbins 4 can be embedded in the rotary magazine or battery in the usual manner in that, initially the bob'bin head 24a of each bobbin is inserted into an appropriate groove or socket of the second, non-illustrated Subsequently, the bobbin tip 23 can be pressed against the associated lap or tip holder 11. By virtue of the funnel-,shaped beveled or slanted faces 25 and 26 the bob'bin tip 23 automatically extends into the semi-spherical shaped grooves or socket 22, without requiring that the 'bofbbin inserter pay particular attention to the fact whether the bobbin tip 23 is actually located in its `correct position. A damaging of the bob'bin -tip 23 in that such arrives between two tip holders 11 is no longer possible. Since the bo'bbin tip 23 is guided by the guide surfaces defined 'by the funnel- shaped slanted faces 25 and 26 during insertion in the \bobbin small-end Ibobbin battery Ydisk 10 there is also prevented that upon insertion of the yarn body or package the bobbins 24 abut against one another and the yarn layers are displaced or brought into disorder. The tip holders or flaps 11 advantageously consist of plastic and are advantageously rounded-olf everywhere in such a manner that damaging of the bobbin tip 23 is positively prevented.
While there is shown and described a present preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be distinctly understood that the invention is not limited thereto but may be otherwise variously embodied and practised within the scope of the following claims.
-I claim:
1. A disk assembly -for receiving the tips of bobbins in a bobbin battery for looms, comprising a plate, means deiining a ,series of circularly arranged, circumferentially spaced sockets on a portion of said plate, a holder member for each socket and for each bobbin-tip, each holder member being symmetrical about its longitudinal central axis, resilient means disposed in said spaced sockets for g yieldably mounting said holder member to .said plate, each of said holder member being provided ywith portions defining a -bobbin-tip receiving recess and with additional portions deiining guide means in the form of slanted faces tapered toward said recess and opening at their opposite outer ends to the width of said holder member for guiding an associated bobbin-tip into its recess, said holder members being .arranged on said plate substantially in Lcontact with each other at their outer confronting marginal edges.
2. A disk assembly lfor receiving the tips of bobbins in a bobbin battery for looms, comprising a plate, means dening a series of circularly arranged, circumferentially spaced sockets on a portion of said plate, a holder member for each socket and for each bobbin-tip, each holder member being symmetrical about its longitudinal central axis, resilient means disposed in said spaced sockets for yieldably mounting said holder members to said plate, each of said holder members being provided with portions deiining a bobbin-tip receiving recess and with additional portions defining guide means in the form of slanted faces extending completely about the lower portion of said recess and tapered toward said recess and opening at their opposite outer end to the width of said holder member to provide a guide channel considerably wider than the bobbin-tip for guiding an associated bobbin-tip into its recess, said holder members -being arranged on said plate substantially in contact with each other at their outer confronting marginal edges.
3. A disk assembly in accordance with claim 1 wherein said holder members each comprise a Ibody member including 4a downwardly extending leg merging with a laterally extending leg portion, said body member being provided with a front `face having portions defining said bobbin-tip receiving recess and with said guide means extending about the lower portion of said recess, said body member being provided with a rear face having portions defining bulge means at the upper region of said downwardly extending leg against which said resilient means is capable of bearing, stop means arranged at the rear face of said -body member above said bulge means.
4. A disk assembly in accordance with claim 1 wherein each of said holder members consists of a plastic material.

Claims (1)
1. A DISK ASSEMBLY FOR RECEIVING THE TIPS OF BOBBINS IN A BOBBIN BATTERY FOR LOOMS, COMPRISING A PLATE, MEANS DEFINING A SERIES OF CIRULATORY ARRANGED, CIRCUMFERENTIALLY SPACED SOCKETS ON A PORTION OF SAID PLATE, A HOLDER MEMBER FOR EACH SOCKETS AND FOR EACH BBOBBIN-TIP, EACH HOLDER MEMBER BEING SYMMETRICAL ABOUT ITS LONGITUDINAL CENTRAL AXIS, RESILENT MEANS DISPOSED IN SAID SPACED SOCKETS FOR YIELDABLY MOUNTING SAID HOLDER MEMBER TO SAID PLATE, EACH OF SAID HOLDER MEMBER BEING PROVIDED WITH PORTIONS DEFINING A BOBBIN-TIP RECEIVING RECCESS AND WITH ADDITIONAL PORTIONS DEFINING GUIDE MEANS IN THE FORM OF SLANTED FACES TAPERED TOWARD SADI RECESS AND OPENNING AT THEIR OPPOSITE OUTER ENDS TO THE WIDTH OF SAID HOLDER MEMBER FOR GUIDING AN ASSOCIATED BOBBIN-TIP INTO ITS RECESS, SAID HOLDER MEMBERS BEING ARRANGED ON SAID PLATE SUBSTANTIALLY IN CONTACT WITH EACH OTHER AT THEIR OUTER CONFRONTING MARGINAL EDGES.
