Doich, Westlake, La., assignor to Dolch Enterprises, line, Westlake, La, a corporation of Louisiana Filed May 24, 1965, Ser. No. 458,044 2 Claims. (Cl. 29-235) This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a bow stringer for stringing an archery bow.
An object of the invention is to provide a bow stringer of the character described using a post for a vertical standard with an anchor string attached near the lower end thereof, terminating with loop end to secure over recurve of lower limbof bow, and, an upwardly facing socket near the upper end thereof for receiving the groove, to-wit of the handle midway of the bow.
Another object of the invention is to provide a bow stringer of the character described where the loop on one end of the bow string of the archery bow is nocked on the terminating end of the lower limb of the bow and the loop on the other end of the bow string is sleeved over the recurve end of the upper limb of the bow below the groove near the upper end of the upper limb of the bow so that the loop on the end of the anchor string when looped over the recurve end of the lower limb of the bow and the upwardly facing socket of the vertical standard is in position to receive the groove, to-wit midway of the bow the upper limb of the bow when pulled downward will lessen the recurves on both ends of the bow to permit the easy slipping of the loop of the bow string into the groove around the end of the upper limb to facilitate the stringing of the bow string to the .bow and, likewise, the bow may be unstrung of the bow string by bending the upper limb ofthe bow downward to unloosen the bow string loop from the upper end of the upper limb of the bow.
These and other objects of the invention are in part obvious and will in part be more fully disclosed in the specification, the drawings of which illustrates one embodiment of the invention, in which:
The drawing shows a vertical side view in perspective of an archery bow being strung by the bow stringer of the present invention with the dashed lines indicating the bow in position preparatory to being strung.
The invention will be better understood from a more detailed description thereof reference being had to the accompanying drawings in which like numeraled parts therein denote like numeraled parts herein.
The numeral 1 denotes a post which when in use is placed in a vertical position with the bottom end 2 thereof resting on the ground 3 or other surface. Near the bottom end 2 is a hole 4 through which anchor string 5 is inserted and a knot 6 tied at the end of anchor string 5 to secure the lower end of the anchor string 5 to the post 1. The upper end of the anchor string 5 terminates in a loop 7 for fitting over the recurve end 8 of the lower limb 9 of the bow 10. Midway of the how 10 is the handle 11 of which the groove, to-wit 12 is formed and the hand of the archer fits with top side of the thumb bearing against the lower shoulder 13 of the groove 12 of the handle 11 when the archer is in position grasping the bow for shooting the arrows therefrom by catapulting the arrows by means of tightened bow string 14 which is strung on the bow 10 from end to end thereof, by means of loop 15 fitted over the notch 16 around the recurve end 8 of the lower limb 9, and, loop 18 of the bow string 14 fitted over the notch 19 of the recurve end 20 of the upper limb 21 of the bow 10.
The vertical post 1 has an upwardly facing socket 22 which is adapted to receive the groove, to-wit 12 and the lower limb 9 of how 10 is inclined downward somewhat so that upper limb 21 of the bow 10 is raised upwardly above the position of the lower limb 9 of the bow 10 causing the upper shoulder 23 of the groove 12 of the handle 11 to bear downwardly against the socket 22 near the upper end of the vertical post 1 when the loop 18 of the bow string is being slipped over the notch 19 of the upper limb 21 of the bow in the step of stringing the bow string 14 to the notch 19.
The bow stringer is simple and easy to use and by slipping the loop 7 of the anchor string 5 over the recurve end 8 of the lower limb 9 to hold the recurve end 8 down in an inclined position. Then the groove, to-wit 12 is fitted into the upwardly facing socket 22 near the upper end of the post 1 which post 1 is in substantially vertical position with the bottom end thereof 2 resting on the ground 3 or other surface.
It is a very simple matter for an archer to bend the upper limb 21 downwardly with one hand since the principle of a fulcrum has been created with the groove, towit 12 which is midway of the bow balanced in the upwardly facing socket 22. After bending the upper limb of the bow downwardly with one hand the other hand is free to slip the loop 18 of the bow string 14 over the notch 19 near the end of the upper limb 21 to string the how 10 with the bow string 14. After using the bow for shooting arrows therefrom and the bow 10 needs to be unstrung so as not to weaken the bow from being strung over too long a period of time, the bow stringer is put back into use after unstringing the bow string 14 by use of the bow stringer in the same manner as was done to string the bow string 14 to the bow 10, and, the bow string 14 becomes loosened when the upper limb 21 thereof is bent downwardly and the loop 18 is slipped downwardly from notch 19 over the recurve end 20 of the limb 21 to a loosened position and the bow 10 allowed to return to its normal shape in inert position.
By means of my bow stringer a person of limited strength can string and unstring a how that would normally tax the strength of a very strong person to do and perform these same functions.
It is obvious that many changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of the various parts of my bow stringer without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A bow stringer device for stringing and unstringing archery bows comprising a post with flexible anchor means attached near the lower end of said post and extending upwardly therefrom for attachment to the lower I limb of an archery bow, a socket means near the upper end of said post for receiving the middle portion of an archery bow.
2. A bow stringer device for stringing and unstringing archery bows comprising a post with flexible anchor means attached near the lower end of said post and extending upwardly therefrom for attachment to the lower limb of an archery bow, a socket means near the upper end of said post for receiving the middle portion of an archery bow, a loop near the upper end of said anchor means for snubbing down the lower limb of a bow when the middle portion of a bow is fitted into the socket means near the upper end of said post.

Claims (1)
1. A BOW STRINGER DEVICE FOR STRINGING AND UNSTRINGIG ARCHERY BOWS COMPRISING A POST WITH FLEXIBLE ANCHOR MEANS ATTACHED NEAR THE LOWER END OF SAID POST AND EXTENDING UPWARDLY THEREFROM FOR ATTACHMENT TO THE LOWER LIMB OF AN ARCHERY BOW, A SOCKET MEANS NEAR THE UPPER END OF SAID POST FOR RECEIVING THE MIDDLE PORTION OF AN ARCHERY BOW.
