Description
Aug. 23, 1966 E. M. CASELMAN GRIPPING AND SUPPORTING DEVICE FOR PAPER BOXES United States Patent 3,268,146 GREPPING AND SUPPGRTENG DEVICE F612 PAPER BOXES Evelyn M. Caselman, Box 7, Wheeling, Mo. Filed Feb. 21, 1966, Ser. No. 529,152 4 Claims. (Cl. 2296) This invention relates to receptacles and their closures, and more particularly a gripping and supporting device for paper boxes.
It is therefore the main purpose of this invention to provide a gripping and supporting device for paper boxes adapted to maintain wet boxes in their original shape.
Another object of this invention is to provide gripping and supporting devices for paper boxes which are secured to the corner portions of a box, thereby permitting to handle said box with wet hands without altering the shape of said box and damaging the contents thereof.
Another object of this invention is to provide gripping and supporting devices for paper boxes which have corrugated surface thereby permitting more adequate handling of the paper box.
Still another object of this invention is to provide gripping and supporting device for paper boxes which includes a firm receptacle adapted to support the bottom portion of said box and protect the contents thereof.
Other objects and advantages of this invention will become apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein a satisfactory embodiment of the invention is shown. However, it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the details disclosed but includes all such variations and modifications as fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawing:
FIGURE 1 is a perspective view showing a conventional paper box in accordance with the preferred embodiment of this invention.
FIGURE 2 is a fragmentary cross-sectional view taken along lines 22 of FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 3 is a fragmentary cross-sectional view taken along lines 3-3 of FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 4 is a fragmentary sectional view taken along lines 4-4 of FIGURE 1.
FIGURE 5 is a fragmentary cross-sectional view taken along lines 5-5 of FIGURE 4.
FIGURE 6 is a perspective view showing the rear side of the preferred embodiment in accordance with the present invention.
FIGURE 7 is a perspective view showing a modified form of this invention.
FIGURE 8 is a fragmentary cross-sectional view taken along lines 88 of FIGURE 7.
According to this invention, a gripping and supporting device 10 is firmly attached to a conventional paper container 11. Said container assumes a rectangular configuration and one end of which is provided with a semicircular opening for disposing items, such as, powdered soap from said container. A protective grip member 13 which assumes right angular format is adapted to be firmly attached to one of the corner portions of container 11. The inside portion of member 13 is provided with suitable glue substance 14 for securing member 13 to said container 11. The upper portions of member 13 form ing capability for Wet hands. The protective grip member 13 is preferably made of plastic material. Rectangular receptacle 16 is adapted to snugly enclose the bottom portion of container 11. The upwardly extending Wall of receptacle 16 are provided with a plurality of holes 17. Holes are adapted to admit metallic clamps or stitches for securing receptacle 16 to the bottom portion of container 11. Looking now at FIGURES 7 and 8 of the drawing, one will see that in its modified form the invention is provided with a rectangular container 19 having a corrugated grip member 20 performing the substantially identical function as grip member 13 shown in the preferred embodiment of this invention. Instead of a semicircular opening 12 as shown in FIGURE 1, a pivotable metallic dispenser 25 is provided for closing and opening a cutout 23 at the upper portion of container 19. A horizontally disposed metallic clamp or wire is adapted to provide support for the metallic dispenser 25. Like in the embodiment shown in FIGURE 1, container 19 at its bottom portion is provided with a receptacle 21 which is substantially identical with receptacle 16 of the preferred embodiment. Stitches 22 secure receptacle 21 to the bottom port-ion of said container 19. It will also be noted that grip member 20 is secured to the corner portion of container 19 by gluing.
What I now claim is:
1. A gripping and supporting device for paper boxes comprising, in combination, a rectangular paper container adapted to have a semi-circular opening therein for emptying the contents from said container, a protective gripping member firmly secured to a corner portion of said container, the outside portion of said gripping member is provided with corrugated surface thus establishing non-slipping gripping means for wet hands, said gripping memher also adapted for preventing said box from sagging when said box is exposed to fluid, and a receptacle made of plastic material adapted to support and reenforce the bottom portion of said box when said box is exposed to fluid.
2. The device according to claim 1, wherein said gripping member assumes a format consisting of front and top panels perpendicularly connected to each other, a pair of side panels connected to the edges of said front and top panels and being spaced from each other in a parallel relationship.
3. The device according to claim 2, wherein said grip member is secured to an edge of said container by means of gluing.
4. The device according to claim 1, wherein said receptacle includes a base plate, upwardly extending walls integrally secured to said base plate, said walls are provided with a plurality of holes, each pair of holes are adapted to admit a metallic wire member for securing the paper portions of said box to the walls of said receptacle.
