(Cl. 211-71) This invention has relation to garbage can holders and more particularly to an improved garbage can holder which has a base bracket made out of a unitary piece of material and bent so that the can is supported and the base of the can cannot slip out of place.

It is well known that there are a large number of garbage can holders on the market, and a number of patents have been granted on various types of these can holders. At the same time, the ultimate in simplicity and ease in manufacture has not been reached nor has there been any really attractive can holder-s which will support the garbage cans, prevent damage thereto and also prevent the garbage from being spilled all over.

The can holder of the present invention presents a unique base member which is made from a unitary strip of steel material and can easily be formed into a unit that will support the bottom of the can in vertical direction and will also prevent the can from slipping oif the bracket in a sideways direction.

The lower bracket can be mounted onto a pole or building and an offset handle holding bracket is then attached above the lower bracket to hold the handle of the can. The can is canted or tipped so that the base will not slip outwardly either. Two lower and two upper brackets can be placed onto a single pole so that two cans can be held in one location in order to minimize the cluttered appearance of a yard.

Therefore, it is an object of the present invention to present a garbage can holder which utilizes a support base made of a unitary strip of material and which will support the base of the can from movement in transverse direction and also in vertical direction.

It is a further object of the present invention to present a garbage can holder which holds two cans.

Referring to the drawings and the numerals of reference thereon, a garbage can holder assembly illustrated generally at 10 includes an upright post 11 that is firmly mounted in the ground 12 in any usual or preferred manner. The post in turn has a pair of

15, 15 are spaced so that the handles 17 of the cans 14 will fit thereover and these brackets 15 will hold the handles in place. When the bottoms of the garbage cans are set on the brackets 13, and the handles placed over brackets 15, the can will be supported by the brackets 13 and the weight of the can will tend to tilt the can outwardly so that their handles will be held on the brackets 15. The tilt causes an inward component of force from the cans and thus the gase of the cans cant slip off the brackets.

The base bracket 13 is the unique part of the can holder assembly and is made from a single strip of material, as shown in FIG. 6 that can be bent in one single stroke. Referring to FIG. 6, normal holes are placed in the bracket, and slits 20, 20 are made at each end of the brackets. The unit is then bent as shown in FIGS. 2 and 3. The unit has a base 21, a pair of

The bracket 13 can be manufactured very simply using a single stroke die, if desired, and thus the cost of production is very low. Further, the brackets can be attached to any kind of a post, for example, a steel post, as shown or it can be attached onto wooded members. The brackets can even be placed directly onto a Wall, if desired.

The offset bracket 15 is shown in FIG. 5. This is of size to receive the handles of the garbage cans and prevent the handles from coming off the bracket when it is supported on the lower bracket 15. This too can be fastened onto the posts in any desired manner or can be fastened directly to the wall spaced a suflicient distance to hold the handle of the can which is supported on the bracket 13.

The holder is inexpensive, attractive and very effective.

What is claimed is:

1. In a garbage can holder, an upright support, a base member mounted on the support so that the plane thereof is substantially upright, said base member having a pair of legs extending divergingly outwardly from said base member, a pair of support flanges on the legs forming substantially horizontal surfaces to support a garbage can, and a handle holding member mounted on the support above the base member in position to receive and hold a handle of the garbage can supported on the support flanges.

2. The combination as specified in claim 1 wherein said base member has a pair of diverging guide members positioned above the support flanges and positioned to engage the side surfaces of the can to prevent the can from sliding transversely on the support flanges.

3. In a garbage can holder, an improved support bracket comprising a base member mounted so the plane thereof is substantially upright, a pair of legs extending divergingly outwardly from said base member, a pair of flanges, one formed in each of said diverging legs adjacent the outer ends thereof and bent to form substantially horizontal surfaces to support a garbage can, and a pair of guide members spaced above said flanges and bent outwardly at an angle greater than the legs so that they will engage the sides of a garbage can and prevent it from moving transversely when it is supported on said flanges, said bracket members being in one piece.

4. The combination as specified in claim 3 wherein the bracket is mounted on a substantially vertical member and a handle holding member spaced above said bracket a sufficient distance to receive the handle of a can supported on said bracket.

5. The combination as specified in claim 4 wherein there are two of said brackets and handle holding members attached to a single pole, and the brackets are substantially horizontally aligned and on opposite sides of the pole.
