CALENDAR CUFF-BUTTON.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 325,005, dated August 25, 1885.

Application filed February 14, 1885.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GARCIA MoNTmRo, of New Bedford, Bristol county, Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Calendar Cuff-Button, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved cuff-button provided with adjustable devices for showing the dates through slots in the button.

The invention consists in details of construetion and combinations of the same, as will be fully set forth and described hereinafter.

Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.

Figures 1 and 2 are face views of my improved cutt-button. Fig. 8 is a rear view of the same, the back plate being removed. Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of the same.

The cuff-button consists in a l )ngitudinal or other shaped box or shell, A, provided with two or more transverse slots, B. In the box or shell two strips, C, are held longitudinally, and in the same four spindles, D, are mounted. one above and one below each slot B, the said spindles having squared ends adapted to re eeive a key for turning them. One side of the box or shell is provided with apertures E, through which the key can be passed to reach the spindles. 7

On the spindles of each pair for each slot the ends of a band, F, are secured, which extends across the slot between the said spindles. On the said bands the names of the months or days and the numerals of the days, or numerals of the days and years together, are produced transversely, so that they can be seen through the slots, the height of the letters correspond ing to the width of the slots.

Thin glass plates H are secured in the slots, and a stem, J, projects from the back of the shell, and is provided with an end disk, K.

The bands F are made of paper or fabric.

The numbers or names are changed by turning the spindles D by means of the key, and thus winding the bands F more on one spindle or on the other.

As shown in Fig. 1, the year-numerals show through the upper slot, and the name of the month shows through the lower slot, and in Fig. 2 the name of the day shows through the upper slot, and the number of the day shows through the lower slot.

In place of providing the key for turning the rollers on which the band is secured, small knobs or cross-pieces maybe provided on the ends of the shafts for turning the rollers.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. In a cuff-button, the combination, with a hollow shell having its upper face slotted, of spindlesjournaled in said shell, and bands attached to said spindles and provided with the names and numbers of the months, days, &c., substantially as herein shown and described.

2. In a cuff-button, the combination, with the frame or shell A, having slots B in the front and openings E in one side, of the spindles D, having squared ends and bands secured on the spindles, and on which bands the names and numbers of the months, days, &c., are produced. substantially as herein shown and described.
