Filed Nov. 24, 1961, Ser. No. 155,254 2 Claims. (Cl. 21137) This invention relates to a wall ornament arranging and hanging device.

The principal object of the invention is to provide a simple, economical and ornamental device by means of which a plurality of selected Wall ornaments such as framed pictures, mirrors, medallions, panels, plaques, and the like can be artistically arranged and grouped on a wall in any desired ornamental arrangement and simultaneously suspended from a single attachment to the wall.

Other objects and advantages reside in the detail construction of the invention, which is designed for simplicity, economy, and efficiency. These will become more apparent from the following description.

T he invention comprises only two elements, a hanger, as shown in FIG. 1, and a spacer, as shown in FIG. 2.

The spacer com rises an elongated solid or tubular rod 113 of any desired length or cross section terminating at its extrem 'es in specifically formed angle clips 11.. The clips have a 90 angular shape in horizontal cross section and the side leg of each clip is unitarily formed on, or attached to, the extremities of the rod 16 in any desired manner so that they will lie parallel to each other at 90 to the axis of the rod. The back legs of the clips, indicated at 12, lie in a common plane parallel o the axis of the rod 1%").

The back leg of each clip is provided with a bottom tongue 13 and is provided at its top with a tongue-receiving notch 14 corresponding in size and contour to the bottom tongue 13. Each back leg is provided with a crew hole 15' intermediate the tongue and the notch.

The rod it) may have a square, round or hexagonal cross section and the spacers may be furnished with rods of any desired length. A very satisfactory arrangement appears to be round tubes /4 in diameter and 7" long.

The hangers comprise a triangular plate 16 rolled upwardly at its base to form a bottom channel 17 and provided with a hanging opening 18 adjacent its apex.

Let us assume it is desired to arrange and hang two relatively large pictures, such as shown at 19 and 2t and two relatively small pictures, such as shown at 21 and 22. Many arrangements may be selected, one of which is illustrated in 1- 16. 3, in which, two pairs of horizontally positioned spacers and two single vertical spacers are employed. The uppermost horizontal spacer is positioned in the bottom channel 17 of a hanger and is shifted horizontally to bring the entire arrangement into perfect balance.

A second arrangement for two pictures or panels 23 and 24 is shown in FIG. 4 where two horizontal pairs of spacers are positioned between the two pictures and positioned in a single hanger.

In attaching the spacers to a picture frame the side leg of a clip is positioned against the side of the frame with back leg overlapping the back of the frame to which it is attached by means of a suitable screw 25. Only one screw is necessary since the angle configuration of the clip prevents relative tilting.

When the spacers are attached in pairs the tongue of one spacer is inserted into the notch in the other spacer to insure perfect alignment and perfect intermediate spacing between the spacers of the pair.

While a specific form of the improvement has been described and illustrated herein, it is to be understood that the same may be varied within the scope of the appended claims, without departing from the spirit of the invention.

Having thus described the invention what is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:

1. A spacing element for use in arranging decorative pieces on a wall in spaced relation comprising: similar angle clips each having a side plate portion and a back plate portion at right angles to each other; an elongated rod unitarily mounted at its extremities on and at right angles to the side plate portions of said angle clips and maintaining the back plate portions of said clips in a common plane and parallel to each other; and means for securing the back plate portions of said clips to said decorative pieces.

2. A spacing element for use in arranging decorative pieces on a wall in spaced relation comprising: similar angle clips each having a side plate portion and a back plate portion at right angles to each other; an elongated rod unitaiily mounted at its extremities on and at right angles to the side plate portions of said angle clips and maintaining the back plate portions of said clips in a common plane and parallel to each other; and means for securing the back plate portions of said clips to said decorative pieces, the back portion of each clip beng provided with a protuberance and with a socket for receiving the protuberance of an adjacent clip to maintain said clips in uni orm, aligned and spaced relation.

Claims (1)

1. A SPACING ELEMENT FOR USE IN ARRANGING DECORATIVE PIECES ON A WALL IN SPACED RELATION COMPRISING: SIMILAR ANGLE CLIPS EACH HAVING A SIDE PLATE PORTION AND A BACK PLATE PORTION AT RIGHT ANGLES TO EACH OTHER; AN ELONGATED ROD UNITARILY MOUNTED AT ITS EXTREMITIES ON AND AT RIGHT ANGLES TO THE SIDE PLATE PORTIONS OF SAID ANGLE CLIPS AND MAINTAINING THE BACK PLATE PORTIONS OF SAID CLIPS IN A COMMON PLANE AND PARALLEL TO EACH OTHER; AND MEANS FOR SECURING THE BACK PLATE PORTIONS OF SAID CLIPS TO SAID DECORATIVE PIECES.
