No. 197,002 1 Claim. (Cl. 2-80) This invention relates to winter garments for small children, of the type generally related to snow suits.

Experience has shown that in the case of snow suits, which consist of an outer weather resistant material provided with an inner lining of a generally softer material permanently attached thereto, the outer or covering material alone is frequently soiled while the inner lining remains perfectly clean. As a consequence in the case of such garments, the entire snow suit must be laundered, and during the time consumed by the laundering the child is unable to enjoy the warmth and protection which Further, the outer layer of material often becomes damaged or permanently stained, thus necessitating, with consequent poor economy, discarding the entire snow suit.

An object of the present invention is therefore to provide a new, useful and improved two-piece garment or snow suit wherein an outer full length garment of weather resistant material and an inner complementary garment of washable light weight and relatively soft material, the

r two garments being releasably attached to each other but readily mutually separable. As a consequence, when the outer garment requires washing while the inner garment does not, the outer garment may readily be removed while the child may continue to wear the inner one and also may superimpose another similar outer garment over the inner one.

Another object of the invention is the provision of suitably positioned interengageable snap-button members on the inner and outer garments for easy, rapid and secure interengagement or interlocking of the two garments, as well as for simple separation of the two.

A further object of the invention is the provision of tucks in the two garments to provide for enlargement thereof to accommodate future growth of the child.

The above as well as additional objects will become apparent in the following description wherein reference numerals refer to like-numbered parts in the accompanying drawing. It is to be noted that the drawing is intended primarily for the purpose of illustration and that it is therefore neither desired nor intended to limit the invention necessarily to any or all of the exact details shown or described except insofar as they may be deemed essential to the invention.

Referring briefly to the drawing, FIG. 1 is a front elevational view of the outer garment of a dual purpose snow suit embodying features of the resent invention.

FIG. 2 is a rear elevational view of the same.

FIG. 3 is a front elevational view of the inner garment of the snow suit.

FIG. 4 is a rear elevational view of the inner garment.

FIG. 5 is a rear perspective view of a cap or hood to serve as an outer covering for the head of the child.

FIG. 7 is a fragmentary perspective view illustrating a detachable sock for the outer garment.

Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral 10 indicates the outer or covering garment of the snow suit, and the numeral 11 indicates the inner garment or lining of the same. For the purpose of simplification, those parts of the inner garment 11 which are similar to parts of the garment 1d, and which are complementary thereto when the two garments are snapped together, are designated in the drawing by the same reference numeral followed by the suffix a. Thus, the legs of the two garments are shown at 12 and 12a, the arms at 13 and 13a, and the torsos at 14 and 14a.

Referring first to the inner garment 11, snap button members 15 are provided in circumferential arrangement around the wrists and ankles. Along both sides of the seam 16 at the front of the garment 11, in the upper portion of the same, i.e., in the torso, rows of snap button members 17 are provided. At the back the torso is provided with a vertical slit or opening which is closed by overlapping the edges 18 thereof in the usual manner, and closure is obtained by means of snap buttons 19. Along both sides of this closure, rows of snap button members 20 are provided.

Referring now to the outer garment 10, the wrists and ankles are provided with snap button members 15a complementary to the members 15 on the inner garment, and spaced and'arranged for engagement therewith. Likewise, the front of the torso of the garment 10 has rows of snap button members 17a complementary to the members 17 of the garment 11, and the back of the torso 14 has snap button members 219a complementary to the members 20 on the torso 14a. A zipper closure 21 is provided for a slit along the vertical median line of the back of the torso 14. Knee pads 32 and a seat pad 33, of plastic, are shown. Yarn double cuffs 22 are provided on the sleeves of the outer garment 10, and yarn anklets 23 are provided on the legs. Tufts 24 are provided in the torsos of both garments 10 and 11, for expansion thereof to accommodate future growth of the child.

It is apparent from the description up to this point that the inner garment 11 may be worn separatelyby the child, for example indoors while the outer garment is being laundered, or the outer garment 10 may be worn superimposed on the garment 11, with the various complementary snap button members 15 and 15a, 17 and 17a, and 2a and 26a, interlocked. It is also apparent that the outer garment 11 may readily be released from the inner garment 10 for, removal thereof for cleaning or washing.

A cap or hood is also provided in dual form, an inner cap or lining 25 of suitable material being worn in contact with the head, and an outer cap or cover, 26, complementary to the lining 25, is interengageable with the lining 25 by means of complementary snap button members 27 and 27a. A chin strap 28 is shown attached to the hood 26. The neck of the torso 14 has a yarn collar 34.

An added feature is shown in FIG. 7, in the form of a removable foot or sock on the anklet 23, designated by the numeral 29, whereby, when the feet of the child get wet the foot 29 may be removed for drying. The foot 29 is releasably secured about the anklet 23 by threading a string or the like 30 through both the rim of the foot and the anklet, which string may be tied in a knot 31 in the manner of a shoe lace.

From all of the foregoing it is apparent that a practical andeconomical dual purpose snow suit has been set forth, which save laundering time and costs.

While the invention has been described with particular reference to the construction shown in the drawing such is not to be construed as a limitation upon the invention which is best defined in the appended claim.

The invention having thus been described, what. is claimed and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is as follows:

i A dual purpose snow suit composed of two unitary mutually complementary garments including an outer garment of weather resisting material and an inner garment of relatively soft material, each of said garments consisting of a torso portion having arm portions and leg 3 portions integral therewith, the inner garment normally registering entirely 'within the outer garment, the front and back portions of the torso portion of said inner gar- 'ment having thereon spaced from the vertical median linesthereof' vertical rows of snap button members, the

front and back portions ofthe torso of saidouter garment having, thereon similarly spaced from the vertical median linesthereof vertical rows of-snap button members oomplement'ary to said first namecl' snap button members for interengagement therewith to secure said torso portions to each other, the back portions of both of said garments having slits along the vertical'median lines thereof and means forreleasablyinterlocking the opposed edges of the slits,

the wrist portions of said arm portions of the inner garment and the ankle portions of said leg portions of theinn'er garment each having a plurality of cireumferentially spaced snap button members thereon arranged in a circle around the wrist and ankle portions of the inner garment, the wrist portions of the arm portions of the outer garment eachhaving a plurality of circumferentially spaced snap button members'thereon arranged'in a circle around the wrist portions of the outer garment and complementarily to the snap-button members on said first-named wrist portions, the ankle portions of the leg portions of the outer 'garme'nti each having circumferentially spaced snap button members thereon arranged in a circle around the ankle portions of the outer garment complementarily to the snap button members on said first-nanied ankle portions, said snap button members on said Wrist portions and said ankle portions of said garments serving to secure the Wrist portions and the ankle portions of the outer garment to respectively the wrist portions and the ankle portions of the inner garment in close mutual contact throughout the circumferences of the portions.
