Wyant, 4343 Mayfair Ave., Montreal, Quebec, Canada Filed July 14, 1961, Ser. No. 124,214 1 Claim. (Cl. 84-95) This invention relates to a paper towel dispenser for household and other use. The invention consists essentially in combining a towel dispenser with a music box mechanism and connecting the music box mechanism with the towel roll in such a way that every time the roll is rotated for removing a towel the music box mechanism is caused to operate.

The towel dispenser is of generally conventional construction and the music box mechanism is an element which is commercially available as an assembled unit. The driving connection between the roll of paper, more particularly the shaft on which it is mounted, and the winding shaft of the music box mechanism may be effected in any simple and convenient manner.

An embodiment of the invention is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing, in which:

Referring to the drawings. The dispenser comprises a paper towel support bracket which is formed with a bar 11 adapted to be secured to a wall or the like, and two end brackets 13 bent at right angles to bar 11. The end brackets 13 have holes in which is journalled a shaft 16. A roll of paper towels 17 is mounted on the shaft 16 by means of frustoconical spacer discs 18 engaging the ends of the hollow core of the roll 17. A washer 19 is inserted between each of spacer discs 18 and the corresponding end bracket 13, and the assembly is slightly tightened by a nut 20 externally of one of the brackets while still permitting rotation of the shaft 16. The nut 20 is locked on the shaft by any suitable means. With this arrangement, when the roll 17 is rotated the shaft 16 is rotated along with it.

A music box mechanism 21 is mounted externally on one of brackets 13 by means of bolts 22. The winding shaft 24 of the music box mechanism is aligned with the shaft 16 supporting the paper roll 17.

A flanged bushing 25 is secured to the end of the shaft 16 adjacent the music box mechanism 21 and a similar flanged bushing 26 is similarly mounted on the end of the winding shaft 24 of the music box. The flanges of bushings 25 and 26 are coupled together by the pins 27 for rotation of the music box mechanism when the paper towels are unwrapped from the roll.

The whole dispenser or only the music box mechanism may be enclosed in a suitable housing (not shown).

What I claim is:

In combination, a support having a pair of end brackets, a shaft mounted on said brackets, a roll of paper towels secured on said shaft between said brackets, and a music box mechanism having a winding shaft, said first shaft and said winding shaft each having a flanged bushing secured thereto, the flanges of said bushings being perforated, and one or more pins inserted through the perforations of the said flanges to operatively connect the said shafts.
