ESPECIPICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 303,297, dated August l2, 1884.
Application filed 'June 13, 1884. (No model.) l
-Artieles of rearing-Apparel, ot' which the following is aspeeilication.
My invention relates to au improved 4fastener and. supporter for articles of wearing-ap parel, and the object ot' my improvement is to provide a simple, durable, and convenient device whereby articles of wearing-apparel can he securely connected together and supported in proper position on the wearer, or connected to any article and supported in such position as may be desired. I accomplish this object by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
In Figure 1, A represents a frame stamped out of metal or formed of wire, the middle portion of which is 4formed inte aloop,l3. The ends of said loop are contracted, forming narrow slots c c, extending toward opposite ends ot' the frame, the sides of said slots being nearly parallel for the entire length; or the entrance to said slots may be V-shapcd for a convenient distance, which may extend to end of frame, if desired.
2 shows aniodiiication of ymy invention. This also may be formed of wire or stamped out of metal, in which A represents a frame, the ends a c of which are bent back upon itself at opposite sides, forming narrow slots c c, the sides ot' which are nearly parallel. The ends c a are then bent outward at a convenient point to form V-shapcd openings, which may extend to end of frame, if desired.
Fig. 8 also shows a modification ol' my in vention. This also may be formed of wire or stamped outI of metal, in which A represents a frame, the ends c c of which are bent back upon itself upon the same side, bringing the ends in line with each other and forming narrow slots c c, the sides of which are nearly paralel. The ends c c are then bent outward tion on the wearer.
a stocking or other article, either at the edge or other convenient part, is drawn into the loop portion or Vshaped opening, and then carried into the narrow space o, where it is grasped and firmly held. This secures one end of the device to the stocking. Then a small portion of the drawers or other article, at a convenient part, is drawn into the loop portion or V-shaped opening at opposite end, and then carriedinto the narrow space e at opposite end, where it is grasped and firmly held, thereby connecting the two articles together and supporting the stocking in proper posi- 'Ihc device is disengaged by reversing the operation.
It Vwill be observed that this device is applicable to the supporting of articles in almost any position, and to the connecting of articles together either on the wearer or oli, as maybe desired. It will also be found useful in the holding up of skirts, also in the shortening of sleeves.
I am aware that holding devices of this character are not new where they are confined to one end only; but I am not aware'thatholding devices of this character where they are situated at each end or" a frame have ever been used before` this invention.
I ani also aware that holding devices situated at opposite. ends of a piece of mechanism are not new-osier instance,a crayon-holder. These, therefore, I do not claim; but
Vhat I do claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
In a fastener and supporter for articles of wearing-apparel, the frame A, provided with holding devices c e at opposite ends of same, substantially as shown and described.
