UNITED STATES PATENT Finch.
I CALVIN W'. LITTLE, OF DENVER, COLORADO.
WATCH-MAKERS PLI ERS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No, 301,731, dated July 8, 1884.
Application filed February 13, 1884.
(No model.)
To allwiwm it may concern:
Be it known that I, CALVIN XV. LITTLE, a citizen of the UnitedStates, residing at Denver, in. the county of Arapahoe and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Watch-Makers Pliers, of which the following is a description.
Figure 1 is a side, and Fig. 2 an underneath view of the pliers.
My invention relates to pliers for the use of watch-makers; and it consistsin a special construction of pliers designed to facilitate the removal of the hands from a watch without straining or twisting the hands or the shaft to which they are applied, as hereinafter more fully described. 7 1
In the drawings, A represents a pair of pliers, which are jointed together at a, and are normally held open by a spring, b. The jaws B O of the pliers are made wide at the ends, and the lower one, B, is somewhat shorter than the upper one, and its end is flattened to a sharp chisel-edge, in which are'formed several slots, 0 c c", of diiferent sizes. On the branched extremities of the upper jaw, and slightly beyond the end of the lower jaw, are two downwardly or inwardly projecting pins or lugs, 61 d.
In making use of my pliers they are grasped and placed upon the watch-face, with the lowerjaw, 33, resting upon the dial, which jaw is made chisel shape to permit it to pass under the flange at the sleeve, collar, or hub of the watch handmhich sleeve or collar of the hand is received into one of the notches c c 0?, according to its size. Then upon closing the jaws of the pliers the pins or lugs 01 d find a bearing against the watch-dial, and the act of closing the pliers pries off the hands with a steady and gentle action, which avoids awkward twisting strains and prevents damage to the hands, center staff, or dial.
Instead of providing the upper jaw with pins (1 (i, said upper jaw may be made longer and its branches bent downward.
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim as new is- I l. A pair of pliers having one of its jaws flattened to a chisel-edge and slotted, and its other jaw made longer and provided beyond the end of the lower jaw with a hearing for the watch-face, as and for the purpose described.
2. A pair of pliers having one of its jaws flattened to a chisel-edge and provided with different-sized slots 0 c 0*, and the, other jaw made longer and branched or bifurcated, and provided with pins (1 (Z, substantially as shown and described.
