((31. 30229) The present invention'relates to scissors and more particularly to scissors useful for cutting notches of preselected shape.

An object of the present invention is to provide an improved pair of scissors of extremely sirnple design which is especially useful for cutting notches.

Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved pair of scissors adapted to cut notches wherein the cutting edges are provided by one pair of cooperative V-shaped cutting portions formed from thin, flat stock.

A further object of the present invention is to provide an improved pair of notching scissors which is of such design that it can be made from flat stock so as to be inexpensive and wherein a minimum number of component parts are required for the end product.

Various other objects and advantages will become apparent from the detailed description to follow.

FIGURE 5 is a plan view of a piece of dress goods showing notches cut therein by my scissors.

Referring more particularly to the drawings wherein like numerals apply to like parts throughout, it will be seen that I have provided an improved pair of scissors 16) which is comprised of a first handle 12 and a second handle 14 formed from thin flat stock, preferably metal.

The first handle 12 has a finger-receiving opening 16 at one end and a shank 18 extending therefrom. The second handle 14 is similarly formed with a finger-receiving opening 20 and a shank 22. The shanks are located in juxtaposed parallel planes so as to clear each other when pivoting with respect to each other. The shanks diverge at 24 to provide spaced parallel pivot portions 26, 28.

The shanks converge at 30, 32 and are angulated to provide V-shaped portions at '34, 36. The V- shaped portions 34, 36 have their terminals at 38, 40, the terminal 38 overlapping the outside of the pivot portion 28 and the terminal 40 overlapping the inside of the pivot portion 26.

A pivot pin or rivet 42 extends through the pivot portions 26, 28 and terminals 38, 40 to pivotally interconnect the assembly. A pivot spacer or washer 44 is received on the pivot pin between the pivot portion 28-and terminal 40.

The V- shaped cutting ends 34, 36 have their cooperating edges bevelled or sharpened as at 46, 48, as seen best in FIGURE 3, the ends 34, 36 being so spaced from the pivot axis as to closely clear each other to function as V-shaped cutting blades. The V-shaped ends are preferably of a size to cut one-quarter inch triangles or notches from dress goods and the like, as shown best in FIG- URE 5.

In view of the foregoing, it is believed that I have provided a pair of notching scissors which fulfill the objects hereinbefore enumerated. As this invention may be embodied in several forms Without departing from the spirit or essential characteristics thereof, the present embodiment is therefore illustrative and not restrictive, since the scope of the invention is defined by the appended claims rather than by the description preceding them, and all changes that fall within the metes and bounds of the claims or that form their functional as well as conjointly cooperative equivalents, are therefore intended to be embraced by these claims.

I claim:

1. A pair of scissors adapted to cut notches comprising first and second handles having finger-receiving openings, said handles having shanks in juxtaposed planes at the ends having said openings, the other ends of said shanks being spaced, a pivot joining said spaced ends, each of said shanks being angulated and reversely bent to provide V-shaped portions, said V-shaped portions having closely cooperative cutting edges.

2. A pair of scissors adapted to cut notches comprising first and second handles having finger-receiving openings, said handles having shanks lying in juxtaposed planes at the ends having said openings, the other ends of said shanks diverging to spaced relationship and having a pivot pin thereat, the shank portions on the handle-remote side of said pivot being generally V-shaped, one portion receiving the other therein in closely cooperative relation, and said V-shaped end portions having cooperative edges sharpened to provide cutting edges.

A pair of scissors adapted to cut notches comprising first and second handles formed of fiat stock, said handles lying in juxtaposed planes and having finger-receiving openings, said handles having shanks extending from said finger-receiving openings to a cutting end, said shanks having intermediate portions spaced and joined by a pivot pin, a spacer on said pivot pin between the shanks, and the cutting ends of the shanks being formed to generally V'shape with one being closely cooperatively received in the other, and said V-shaped cutting ends being formed with cutting edges.

A pair of scissors adapted to cut notches comprising first and second handles formed of flat stock, said handies lying in juxtaposed parallel planes and having finger-receiving openings at one end thereof, said handles having shanks spaced apart adjacent the cutting end of the scissors, said shanks being angulated and bent back to form generally V-shaped cutting ends, the V-shaped cutting end of said first handle being closely cooperatively received around the cutting end of said second handle, a pivot pin joining both legs of both V-shaped cutting ends, and said V-shaped cutting ends having cooperative sharp cutting edges.

5. A pair of notching scissors comprising first and second handles formed of flat stock, said handles lying in juxtaposed parallel planes with common ends thereof having finger-receiving openings, said handles having shanks extending from said common ends to the cutting end of the scissors, said shanks being formed with spaced pivot portions and having their cutting ends angulated to V- shape with the terminal of said first handle shank overlapping the outside of the pivot portion of said second handle shank, and the terminal of said second handle shank overlapping the inside of the pivot. portion of said first handle shank, a pivot pin joining said pivot portions and terminals of said first and second handle shanks, a spacer washer on said pivot pin between the terminal and pivot portion of said second handle shank, and said V-shaped cutting ends having cooperative thin edges bevelled so that as said first and second handles are pivoted the beveled edges closely clear each other to function as cutting edges.
