- Filed Jan. 4, 1960, Ser. No. 105 6 Claims. (Cl. 128-489).
This invention relates .to improvements in brassieres and more particularly to a brassiere adapted for teenagers and especially suited to accommodate and shape the breasts without chafing, galling or discomfort and to be expansible so as to accommodate itself to growth of the breasts. In this manner, the particular brassiere of the invention has the advantage that it is useful over a longer period of time since it will extend yieldably and gently as the bosom grows so as to accommodate itself to the development of young girls. 7 I V The special problems attendant to and to be met in the matter of brassieres for teenagers have been treated in the prior art Patent 2,881,765 over. which-this inventron provides improvement. The breasts are sensitive and tender and furthermore, because'of growth and develop merit, a garment having full stretch. in the bust portion is necessary which will accommodate itself to such growth and development without chafing, gelling or discomfort.
The form of brassiere for teenagers as shown in said :U.S. Patent No. 2,881,765 which has bust portions having inner and outer stretchable fabric plies and an intermediate ply of non-stretchable fabric having an opening therein. In that patent, the intermediate ply is to receive the bust through the opening and is calculated to give uplift to the bust and to mold it. The invention herein provides an improved construction which in one form uses inner and outer stretchable plies in the bust portion and a partial intermediate ply which is also stretchable at the lower part of each bust portion for added but yieldable and stretchable support where such added support is needed. In this way, more comfortable uplifting and molding support is assured without chafing or galling and with improved accommodation to growth.
In another form of the invention, the intermediate stretchable ply has an opening to receive the bust and to provide improved and more comfortable uplift, shaping and molding for the bust.
Accordingly, it is the primary object of the invention to overcome the above noted deficiencies of the prior art and to provide an improved brassiere particularly adapted for use by teenagers which achieves and realize the results and advantages outlined in the foregoing.
A further object of the invention is to provide a brassiere particularly adapted for use by teenagers, the brassiere having breast panels, each panel including plies of stretchable fabric including a partial interior or intermediate ply of preferably fully stretchable fabric adapted for giving appropriate comfortable support to the breasts while at the same time, gently molding the breast and being extensible to accommodate itself to development and growth of the breasts.
Preferably also, as stated, the intermediate ply extends across the lower part of the breast panel to provide the desired uplift and molding effect.
Another object is to provide a brassiere as in the foregoing object wherein the borders of the breast panels are formed of non-stretchable material, the stretchable plies being at an intermediate position within the panels and framed and anchored at the periphery within the nonstretchable fabric so that the non-stretchable material holds the shape of the garment and the stretchable plies provide appropriate support and expansible accommodation to the growing and developing bust of the teenager.
Another object is to provide a brassiere as in the foregoing wherein the stretchable plies include an interior or intermediate ply of stretchable material having a generally circular opening therein to receive the bust or breast to provide support and uplift while the other plies provide appropriate extensible covering, yielding confinement, and molding eifect accommodated to the growth and development of the bust.
Further objects and additional advantages'of the invention will become apparent from the following detailed description and annexed drawings, wherein: 7
FIG. 1 is a view of a preferred form of the invention;
FIG. 2 is a sectional view taken along the line 2-2 of FIG. 1; e I
FIG. 3 is a view of a modified form of the invention;
and
FIG. 4 is a partial view of the invention of FIG. 1 with the outer stretchable fabric of a breast panel removed. V
' Referring now more in detail to the drawings, FIG. 1 shows a brassiere embodying the herein invention. The brassiere is designated generally at 10. 'It has body encircling portions on either side as shown including breast panels .as designated at 12 and 13 which may preferably comp-rise non-stretchable broad cloth material which may have an appropriate trim at the top edges as shown.
The garment has the conventional shoulder straps 15 and 16 attached to the garment by conventional adjustable fasteners as shown at 18 and 19, and attached in a conventional manner to the body encircling portions of the back.
The breast panels 12 and 13 are preferably formed of integral pieces or sections or from partial pieces or sections including pieces 29 and 21 secured at the top ladjacent to the fasteners 18 and 13. The lower part of the garment is finished by binding 22.
The non-stretchable portions of the sections or panels 12 and 13 are formed to provide a frame or support as designated at 24 for stretchable sections or portions within the panels. The stretchable portions or sections have the shape as shown within the frame or border 24 in FIG. 1.
Preferably, the material within the border or frame 24 comprises inner and outer plies of preferably all-way stretchable material as designated at 26 and 27 in FIG. 2. This stretchable material may also, however, be one-way to two-way stretch and may be made of any material suitable for the purpose. These inner and outer plies are firmly anchored to the frame formed by the non-stretchable material 12 around the border thereof. These plies may be made, for example but not limitation, from Helanca yarn which provides for multi-directional stretch and also is very soft.
Between the plies 26 and 27 is a partial intermediate support ply 30 also of stretchable material and positioned to provide comfortable support and uplight to the bust on the underside thereof and for molding while the plies 26 and 27 cover and retain the breasts providing yielding confinement and allow and accommodate for growth and development thereof, the material being sufficiently soft, stretchable and extensible for this purpose.
FIG. 4 shows a brassiere as in FIG. 1 with outer stretchable ply 27 removed from one breast panel. The partial intermediate ply 37 is formed by a transverse elastic band as shown serving the purpose as described in the foregoing.
In the form of the invention shown in FIG. 3, the construction is similar except that there is provided an intermediate ply 32 of stretchable material having in it a generally circular opening as shown at 34, this ply being between the stretchable plies 26 and 27 as is the ply 30 in FIG. 2. The bust or breast can protrude wholly or in part through the opening 34 so that molding support is development. Thus, theintermediate ply 32, since it is stretchable, provides more comfortable uplift support and molding effect without possibility of discomfort, galling or chafing which can result from one or more nonstretchable plies in the bust pocket portions.
The foregoing disclosure is representative of preferred forms of the invention and is to be interpreted in an illustrative rather than a limiting sense, the invention to be accorded the full scope of the claims appended hereto.
