United States This invention relates to infants ticnlarly to a disposable childs bib.

It is an object of the present invention to provide a re-usable childs bib having means for detachably supporting an absorbent type insert therewithin which can be conveniently disposed of after use.

Still another object of the present invention is to provide a permanent, attractive, and convenient childs bib which may be continuously used without laundering, or the like, and in which an absorbent panel may be insexted for absorbing liquid food matter during use.

Other objects of the invention are to provide a disposable childs bib bearing the above objects in mind which is of simple construction, has a minimum number of parts, is inexpensive to manufacture and efficient in operation.

For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawing, in which:

FIGURE 1 is a perspective view of a basic form of childs bib made in accordance with one form of the present invention;

FIGURE 2 is a perspective view of a slightly modified form of construction;

FIGURE 3 is a view similar to FIGURE 2, with the absorbent panel removed; and

FIGURE 4 is a longitudinal cross sectional view taken along line 44 of FIGURE 3.

Referring now more in detail to the drawing, and more particularly to FIGURE 1 thereof, a childs bib assembly made in accordance with one form of the present invention is shown to feature a flexible chain 14 having alligator-type clips 16 at each end for releasable attachment to a disposable childs bib 12 which can be constructed of any desired material. These clips 16 may be conveniently operated by a squeezing action so as to support the bib panel 12 in a proper position upon the child during use. After such use, the clips 16 and chain 14 are removed and the panel 12 disposed of.

In FIGURES 2 to 4 of the drawing, a modified form of construction 20 is shown wherein the bib assembly includes a base panel 22 and a top panel 24, such top panel 24 having a central opening 26 within which an absorbent panel 30 is received. The edges of the panel 30 are received within the space 28 between the top panel 24 and base panel 22, which space is provided around wear and more paratent the entire periphery of the opening 26 and, which space is for-med by peripherally securing the edges of the base and top panels 22, 24 together. In the case of plastic, such edges may be sealed together by conventional welding procedures. During such sealing operation, a pair of tie strings 32 may also be bonded to one longitudinal extremity of the bib, to facilitate the tying thereof around the neck of the child. However, a beaded chain 14 and clips 16 of the type shown in FIGURE 1 may be used in place of such tie strings 32 should such be desired.

It will now be recognized that in actual use, the main supporting structure of the bib assembly 20 can be formed from base and top sheets 22, 24 that are constructed from a plastic water impervious material, thus facilitating the continuous use of such bib simply by re placing the soiled moisture absorbent panels 30.

While various changes may be made in the detail con struction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as defined by the appended claims.

What I claim as new and desire Patent of the United States is:

1. A disposable bib comprising, in combination, a main panel, an auxiliary panel marginally secured to said main panel, a liquid absorbent filler panel mounted between said main and auxiliary panels and at least partially exposed to view, tie means for supporting said bib during use, said main panel comprising a substantially rectangular sheet of pliable water impervious material, said auxiliary panel comprising a flexible plastic water impervious panel of substantially the same size and outline configuration as said main panel, and said auxiliary panel having a central cutout exposing the facing side of said filler panel to view.

2. The combination according to claim 1, wherein said filler comprises a sheet of liquid absorbent material substantially filling the area of said cut-out of said auxiliary panel and having marginal portions receivable between cooperating surface portion of said main and auxiliary panels around the periphery of said cut-out.

3. The combination according to claim 2, wherein said tie means comprises a beaded chain having alligatortype spring clips at each end for detachable engagement with one longitudinal extremity of said assembled main and auxiliary panels.
