(Cl. 211-86) This invention comprises a new and improved display rack constructed and arranged to be conveniently attached to or detached from a counter, cash register panel or the like in a retail store or station where it is desired to display an advertising notice or announcement or a card carrying a collection of small articles for sale, such as packages of razor blades or pens.

My novel rack includes in its structure upper and lower horizontal carrier members and a channel iron fast to one of said members with-itsflanges extending in spaced parallel relation. In these flanges are mounted apair of-fixed vertical rods and a pair of cooperatingswin'ging clamping arms arranged to engage a panel or the like in opposition to the fixed rods. locking the clamping arms with the rods held under engaging pressure and this locking means constitutes one novel feature of the invention.

Going more into detail, it is proposed to mount each clamping arm and a lockingbar on the channel iron to swing about separate parallel axes, to connect the front end of the locking bar for sliding movement to a portion of the clamping arm and to provide means for holding both of these members immovably in clamping position.

These and other features of the invention will be best understood and appreciated from the following description of a preferred embodiment thereof, selected for purposes of illustration and shown in the accompanying drawings in which:

In describing the illustrated rack, it may be assumed that it is to be attached to a vertical panel 10, such as that shown in dot and dash lines in Fig. 1.

The rack itself comprises an elongated horizontal plate 11 having a channel iron 12 secured in symmetrical position to its rear face. The flanges 12' of the channel iron are thus disposed in spaced parallel relation and supply a convenient mounting for a pair of vertical rods 13 and 14 which extend downwardly through openings 13' and 14', respectively, in the flanges in position to pass across the front face of the panel 10. These rods are held in position by nuts, such as nut 13, threaded on the upper ends thereof and are connected at their lower ends by a cross bar 15 which carries a pair of clamping nuts 16 threaded upon screws 16' which pass forwardly through the cross bar 15 and so also located in front of the panel 10. These nuts may be employed to clamp a display card in position against the front of the rack extending either upwardly to the top plate 11 or hanging vertically beneath the cross bar 15, according to the location of the rack.

Cooperating with the rods 13 and 14 are two clamping arms 17, each having a vertical portion 17' which is journaled in openings 17" in the flanges 12' of the channel iron, a horizontally-extending intermediate section Means are provided for nited rates Patent i 2,935,213 Patented May 3, 1960 18 and a downturned terminal portion 18' provided with a sleeve 19 of rubber or other resilient material. It will be seen that each of the clamping arms 17 may be swung outwardly from some such position as that in dicated in Fig. 2 to a clamping position in which the sleeve 19 bears against the rear face of the panel 10 in opposition to one of the rods 13 or 14.

Each of the clamping arms 17 is provided with a locking bar 20 which is secured to the lower end of a pin 21 journaled in openings 21' in the flanges of the channel iron to swing about an axis spaced inwardly; from the axis of its corresponding clamping arm. Each locking bar 20 at its outer end 20' is bent at substantially right angles and perforated to receive the intermediate portion of the clamping arm 18 in sliding relation. It will be apparent that as the connected members 17 and 20 are swung about their respective axes, the intermediate section 18 of the clamping arm will slide freely through i and-holding them in fixed position with the sleeve '19 inposition of pressure, a screw eye 22 encircles the section 18 and passes through a hole in the locking bar 29 where it-is provided with a wing nut 23. When this nut is free, the connected members may be swung freely about their respective axes, but when the wing nut 23 is set up and tightened, the intermediate section 18 is no longer free to slide through the perforation 2d of the locking bar, but the clamping arm is securely held in its pressure-applying position cooperating with the oppositely disposed rod 13 or 1 to hold the rack securely upon the panel 10. The locking position of the clamping arm is indicated in dot and dash lines in Fig. 1. The rack may be released for removal from the panel 10 by loosening the wing nuts 23 thus permitting the clamping arms to be swung freely away from the panel. The advertising notice or sales card may be attached to the rack by means of the nuts 16 either'before or after the rack is set in place upon the panel.

Having thus disclosed my invention and described in detail an illustrative embodiment thereof, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A display rack comprising upper and lower horizontal members, a channel iron fast to one of said members and extending horizontally thereof, rods connecting the channel iron with the other member, a'pair of swinging clamping arms pivotally mounted on said channel iron and having downturned ends arranged to engage a fixed object in opposition to the connecting rods, means for locking the clamping arms under engaging pressure, and means to support an article on the rack.

2. A display rack comprising members for supporting a display card, flanges projecting rearwardly from one of said members, a pair of fixed rods mounted in the flanges interconnecting said members, a pair of clamping arms pivotally mounted in said flanges and having downturned ends arranged to engage a fixed object in opposition to the connecting rods, locking means connected to each clamping arm, and means to support an article on the rack.

3. A display rack comprising members for supporting a display card, parallel flanges projecting rearwardly from one of said members in spaced relation, a pair of rods passing through said flanges interconnecting said members, a pair of clamping arms pivotally mounted in said flanges and having downturned ends arranged to engage a fixed object in opposition to said rods, a pair of locking bars also pivotally mounted in said flanges, locking means interconnecting a clamping arm and locking bar of each pair, and means to support an article on the rack.
