FOUNTAIN ATTACHMENT FOR MARKING BRUSHES;

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER G. FOBRESTER, OF LEAVENVVORTH, KANSAS.
FOUNTAIN ATTACHMENT FOR MARKING-BRUSHES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 296,945, dated April 15, 1884.
(No model.)
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PETER O. FoRREsTER, of Leavenworth, Leavenworth county, Kansas, have invented a new and Improved Fountain Attachment for Marking-Brushes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The object of my invention is to provide a new and improved fountain attachment which can be held on any marking-brush, to furnish the same with liquid color or ink as required.
My invention consists in the peculiar construction and arrangement of the parts, as hereinafter more fully set forth, and pointed out in the claim.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional elevation of my improved fountain attachment for marking-brushes, showingit held on abrush. Fig. 2isabottom end View of the same; and Fig. 3 is alongitudinal sectional view of the cap.
A rubber bulb, A, is provided at opposite ends with necks B B, and through the said necks the handle 0 of a marking-brush, D, of the usual construction, is passed, the handle closing the openings in the ends of the bulb.
The lower end of the brush-handle should be flush with the end of the lower neck, B, which neck is provided with a vent, E, extending from its lower end up into the bulb. The lower neck, 13, is provided a short distance from 5 its lower end with an annular flange, F, so that when the brush is not in use and rests upon a table, 860. the said flange will rest on the table,
and will prevent the brush proper from coming in contact with the table, &c., and soiling it. A cap, G, can be passed over the brush o proper and the lower end of the neck B, to
cover the brush when the same is not in use. To fill or partly fill the fountain-bulb A, its
sides are pressed together and the air expelled thereby, and its lower end is then dipped into the ink or liquid color. If the pressure on the bulb is removed, it expands and the ink or liquid color is drawn into it through the vent E. If ink is required on the brush, the bulb is pressed slightly, and by this pressure a small quantity of color is forced through the vent E to the brush, the said vent being arranged very close to the inner side of the neck B.
The fountain attachment herein described 5 5 can be applied on any brush of the usual construction, and can easily be taken from one brush and applied on another.
The handle need not be made hollow, nor altered or changed in any manner, to adapt it to be used with the fountain-bulb.
Having thus described my invent-ion, I claim as new and desire to secure by LettersPatent- An elastic bulb, A, provided with end necks,
B B, and a vent, E, in the neck B, extending 6'5 from the enlargement in the bulb to the lower part of said neck, said bulb being adapted to be passed over any ordinary brush-handle, substantially as shown and described.
