Description

Z c. R. BuRGo PHoNoGRAPH REcoRD RAcx Flled oct 5 1955 March 4, 1958 I United tates Patent O PHONOGRAPH RECORD RACK Charles R. Burgo, Billings, Mont.
Application October 5, 1953, Serial No. 384,075
2 Clams. (Cl. 211-40) separator construction for the records which is com-.
posed of an endless flexible member laced through openings in the base and back portions of the rack and wherein the flexible member is arranged to form front and rear partitions or separators for accommodating records of different sizes.
A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is neat and attractive in appearance, which afords effective protection from injury to the records when placing the same in the rack and removing the records therefrom and which is otherwise well adapted for the purpose for which the same is intended.
These together with other objects and advantages which will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:
Fgure 1 is a perspective view;
Figure 2 is a transverse sectional view; and
Figure 3 is a fragmentary perspective view showing the arrangement of the lacing to form the fi'ont and rear partition or separator.
Referring now to the drawing in detail wherein for the purpose of illustran'on I have disclosed a preferred embodiment of the inventon, the numeral 5 designates the rack generally and which is composed of a pair of rectangular shaped rigid members 6 and 7 which are cemented, nailed or otherwise suitably secured at right angles to each other to form a base member and a back member. A pair of end members 8 constructed of quarter circular shape are cemented or otherwise sutably secured to the members 6 and 7 to close the ends of the rack.
The base member 6 is formed with a front row of openings 9 and a rear row of openings 10 and the back member 7 is formed with an upper row of openings 11 and the lower row of openings 12.
A flexible member 13 which may be of cord or other suitable fiexible material is laced through the openings 9, 10, 11 and 12 in the arrangement as illustrated in Figures 2 and 3 of the drawings to provide a front group of partitions or separators 14 arranged parallel to each other and extending from the row of openings 9 to the row of openings 11 and to provide a rear group of parti- ICC tions or separators of relatively shorter length and which are likewise arranged in spaced parallel relation to each other and extend between the row of openings 10 and the row of openings 12. Phonograph records 16 are adapted for placing in the rack between the front and rear groups of partitions or separators 14 and 15 to support the records edgewise in the rack and separated from each other by the partitions or separators to prevent damage to the records when placing the same in the rack or removing the records therefrom.
Strips of material 17 are cemented or otherwise suitably secured to the outer surface of member 6 adjacent the longitudinal edges of the latter and similar strips 18 are also secured to the outer surface of member 7 adjacent the longitudinal edges of the latter to provide feet to support either of said members when placed horizontally on a supporting surface and to protect that portion of the flexible member 13 which is positioned at the outer surface of the respective members from contacting the supporting surface and prevent subjecting the fiexible member to wear.
From the foregoing, the construction and operation of the device will be readily understood and further explanation is believed to be unnecessary. I-lowever, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the inventon to the exact construction shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modfications and equvalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed as new is as follows:
1. A phonograph record rack comprising a pair of duplicate fiat members of rigid material secured to each other at one edge portion in right angularly disposed position and adapted for interchangeably positioning one member horizontally to form a base, while the other member is positioned upright to form a back, each of said members having inner and outer rows of parallel openings, and a fiexible member laced in said openings to extend from the outer openings of one of said members to the outer openings of the other of said members to form a front parallel row of inclined separators at the inner surface of said members, and said flexible member extending along the outer surfaces of said members from the outer row of openings to the inner row of openings of the respective members and then extending from the inner row of openings of one member to the inner row of openings of the other of said members to form a rear parallel row of inclined separators at the inner surfaces of said members and parallel to the front row of separators.
2. The construction of claim 1 and including protubera-nces at the outer surfaces of each of said members to support the latter in an elevated position off of the portion of the flexible member which is exposed at the rear surface of said members.
