ATTORNEYS United States Patent O ROLL DISPENSING Jack H. Robertson, Sacramento, Calif. Application December 18, 1956, Serial No. 629,125 3 Claims. (Cl. 242-554) This invention relates to a roll dispensing means.
An object of this invention is to provide a bracket or holder for rolled sheet material whereby a number of rolls of material may be supported in a position for selective removal, so that different kinds of material may be supported from a single holder.
Another object of this invention is to provide a multiple bracket or roll holder whereby new rolls may be inserted from below without removing the main supporting structure.
A further object of this invention is to provide a bracket or roll holder wherein the leading end of the sheet is frictionally held between the cutter bar and the roll holder, so as to thereby hold the supply roll from rewinding.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts, hereinafter more fully described and pointed out in the claims, it being understood that changes may be made in the construction and arrangement of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention as claimed.
Referring to the drawing:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a roll dispensing means constructed according to an embodiment of this invention.
Fig. 2 is a plan view of the device.
Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional view taken through the device.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of one of the roll supporting members.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral designates generally a rack structure which is formed of parallel side walls 11 and 12. The walls 11 and 12 have secured therebetween connecting bars 13, 14 and 15. The connecting bars 13, 14 and 15 are disposed in spaced parallel relation and the lower edges of each of these bars is formed with saw teeth 16 adapted to guide the flexible sheet material, as will be hereinafter described. The wall or bar 13 is a forward or front bar and is disposed with the lower edge 16 thereof in a plane upwardly offset from the lower edge 16 of connecting wall or bar 14. The wall or bar 14 is an intermediate connecting member and the lower edge 16* thereof is upwardly offset from the lower toothed edge 16 of connecting bar or wall 15. The walls 11 and 12 are also provided with stepped lower edges 17 and 18 and are stepped upwardly from the lower edge 19 thereof. The rack which is formed by the walls 11, 12, and connecting members 13, 14 and 15, is adapted to be secured to the bottom of a cabinet structure preferably disposed over a sink or the like, and walls 11 and 12 have projecting laterally therefrom operating ears 20 and 21, respectively. These ears are adapted to receive fastening means for securing the rack to the lower side of a cabinet or other supporting structure. The wall or bar 13 has disposed on the inner side thereof a substantially V-shaped roll supporting member generally indicated at 22. The roll supporting member 22 is formed of a verti- 2,819,851 [Paten ed Ja 14, 9.
2. cal wall 25 and a bottom wall 24, at an acute angle thereto. The vertical or front wall 23 has formed adjacent each end thereof a'pair of suspension hooks 25 which are adapted to removably'en'gage pver the upper edge of the connecting memberlS; "The roll supporting member 22 is provide dsubstantially midway between the ends thereof withcommunicating-holes 26nd 27in the walls 23' and 24, respectively, so that the finger may be extended through the hole 27 to engage the exposed portion of a sheet which is exposed by the opening or hole 26 on the inner side of wall 13.
The connecting member 14 has removably or suspendingly mounted thereon, a roll supporting member 22- which is similar in every detail to roll supporting member 22 and the roll supporting member 22* includes suspension hooks 25 engaging over the upper edge of connecting member 14. The connecting member or bar 15 has removably mounted thereon a roll supporting member 22 which is similar in every detail to roll supporting members 22 and 22*, with the exception that roll supporting member 22 is substantially larger as to the walls 23 and 24 for supporting a larger roll 28.
In the use and operation of this roll dispenser relatively small rolls 29 and 30 are disposed in the roll supporting members 22 and 22 respectively. The leading ends of the sheet material indicated at 31 and 32 are initially drawn over the upper edges of walls 23 and 23 of supporting members 22 and 22* respectively. These leading ends are rotated downwardly below the lower edges of the bottom walls of the roll supporting members, whereupon the hooks 25 and 25 are engaged over the upper edges of the connecting members 13 and 14, respectively. The leading portion 33 of roll 28 is pulled from the roll and extended over the upper edge of wall 23 and pulled downwardly to project below the lower wall 24 Holder or roll supporting member 22 is then hooked onto the edge of the connecting member 15. The leading edge of any roll may then be pulled downwardly and torn or cut therefrom by twisting or turning the sheet so that the cutting teeth 16 will cut the sheet at the desired point. A portion of each roll member with the holder will provide sufiicient friction to prevent retraction or return movement of the severed edge of the sheet so that this severed edge will be disposed at the lower edge of the front wall of each holder. The sheet may be subsequently pulled downwardly by extending a finger through the openings 27 and 26 so as to contact with the adjacent portion of the sheet which may be pulled downwardly and extended below the holder for the desired distance before being cut from the supply roll.
What is claimed is:
1. A roll dispenser comprising a supporting rack formed of parallel side walls, a connecting wall fixed between said side walls, teeth carried by the lower edge of said connecting wall, a roll supporting member between said side walls comprising a bottom wall, a vertical wall extending upwardly from said bottom wall, and a pair of suspension hooks carried by said vertical wall and engaging over the upper edge of said connecting wall.
2. A roll dispenser comprising a supporting rack formed of parallel side walls, a vertical connecting wall fixed between said walls, a sheet cutting edge formed on the lower edge of said connecting wall, a roll supporting member removably disposed between said side walls, said roll supporting member comprising a pair of angularly related walls, and a pair of suspension hooks carried by one of said pair of walls engaging over the upper edge to thereby dispose said one wall in face abutting relation with respect to said vertical wall whereby the sheet material from the roll may be threaded between said one wall and said connecting wall.
3. A roll dispenser comprising a bracket formed of a connecting wall, whereby the sheet material may be pair of parallel side walls, a plurality of edgewise disthreaded between said face abutting walls. posed connecting walls fixed between said side walls, the lower edges of said connecting walls being disposed References Clted the file of {1115 Patent in stepped relation and said lower edges constituting sheet 5 UNITED STATES PATENTS cutting edges, and a roll holder removably carried by each connecting wall, each roll holder being formed of 2:2, t 3 a pair of acutely related walls, and a pair of hooks carried 1464983 gg; 1923 by one of sad part of walls engaging over the upper edge 2,550,209 Tunic Apr. 24, 1951 of a connecting wall to thereby suspendingly dispose said 10 holder with said one wall in face abutting relation to a
