2 Claims. (Cl. 40-432) This invention relates to an advertising display device, and more particularly to an illuminated container within which is slidably and removably positioned an advertising display.

It is the object of the present invention to provide a novel article display device adapted for use in stores wherein the article displayed is illuminated from a light source within the hollow enclosure forming a part of the device.

it is the further object of the present invention to incorporate within a hollow interiorly illuminated enclosure, guide means upon the front wall thereof for slidably receiving and retaining a supporting sheet upon which may be removably mounted identification as to the article displayed and additionally indicia as to the price thereof, said sheet also being adapted to removably support a translucent sheet having thereon a pictorial illustration of the goods.

It is the further object of the present invention to provide a supporting sheet, which is so formed with supporting means, whereby the various indicia above mentioned are easily interchangeable.

These and other objects will be seen from the following specification and claims, in conjunction with the appended drawing, in which:

Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a display device incorporating the present invention.

Fig. 2 is a section taken on line 22 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 33 of Fig. 1.

Fig. 4 is a front elevational view of the indicia supporting sheet.

Fig. 5 is a fragmentary front elevational view of a second sheet upon which an article is artistically displayed; and

Fig. 6 is a fragmentary plan view of the type of sheet shown in Fig. 4, and wherein the article displaying sheet is removably mounted directly thereon.

It will be understood that the above drawing illustrates merely a preferred embodiment of the invention, and that other embodiments are contemplated Within the scope of the claims hereafter set forth.

Referring to the drawing, the present advertising display device includes a hollow enclosure 11 having upright rear wall 12, top wall 13, bottom wall 14 and upright side walls 15 and 18. As shown in Fig. 1, the upper portions of said side walls are outwardly tapered at 17 and 18, and the upper portion of said rear wall is similarly formed for cooperation therewith.

The enclosure 11 includes an open front side bounded upon its opposite sides across the front of said enclosure by the opposed and inwardly directed channels 19 and 20, and the cooperating upwardly directed channel 21, all arranged in coplanar relation.

The front portions of said channels are formed by bending normally inward the outer portions of side walls 15 and 16 and in bending upwardly normally the outer portion of bottom wall 14, all as indicated in Figs. 1, 2 and 3.

The rear portion of said channels is formed by the 2,814,141 Patented Nov. 26, 1957 ice upright oppositely arranged flanges 22 and 23, which are arranged rearwardly of the outer channel elements and secured respectively to the corresponding upright side walls 15 and 16 in parallel and rearwardly spaced relation to the aforesaid bent over portions.

formed by horizontally extending flange 24, which is secured to bottom wall 14, and arranged parallel to and inwardly of the corresponding channel element 21, as shown in Fig. 2.

The above described channel elements are adapted to removably receive the preferably opaque sheet 25, which may be constructed of plastic, or any other equivalent material, which has sufficient stiffness to maintain the sheet in an upright position within said channels, across the front face of said enclosure.

The upper portions of the sheet 25 are flared outwardly or tapered as at 26 to correspond with the outwardly tapered arrangement of channel elements 19 and 20.

Formed within and as an integral part of sheet 25, are a plurality of indicia supporting and retaining clips 27,

which project forwardly of and lie in a plane parallel to There are also formed an additional set of clips 31,

similar to clips 27 and 28, which are in the nature of tabs adapted to hold down and suitably retain the indicia 33, which may indicate the price of the goods, which indicia are easily removable and interchangeable by this construction. Additional opposed clips 32 of a similar nature are also formed upon the sheet 25 for removably supporting the strip 34 which may contain additional information relating to the price of the goods, for illustration.

The sheet 25 may have, preferably in its lower portion a central aperture 35 through which may be displayed the pictorial illustration 36 of the goods advertised, which illustration may be painted upon or otherwise secured to the translucent sheet 37. Sheet 37 is of the same size and shape as sheet 25, being also tapered at 38 and adapted for removable positioning within the channels 19 and 20 rearwardly of sheet 25.

While this second sheet has been shown, for illustration, it is contemplated that in its place as in Fig. 6, the sheet 25 of the same construction as sheet 25 could be employed, thereby eliminating the second sheet 37. The only difference between sheet 25' and sheet 25 would be that the aperture 35' would be bounded at spaced points by the opposed inwardly directed clips 39 of the same construction as the other clips above described, formed as an integral part of sheet 25'.

Translucent sheet 40 having the desired pictorial illustration thereon, is then positioned over aperture 35' and suitably retained over said aperture throughout portions of its periphery by the hold down clips 39.

The present enclosure is illuminated from the interior, and for this purpose, there is provided a suitable socket 41 anchored as at 42 upon the bottom wall 14, preferably, of the enclosure. Bulb 43 is threaded into socket 41 and electrical current is supplied to said socket by the cord 44, fragmentarily shown.

As sheet 25 is preferably opaque, it serves as a suitable background for the indicia 30, 33 and 34. The source of illumination however, is transmitted through the illustration 36 on translucent sheet 37 and through the aperture 35 on sheet 25, when both sheets are employed. If merely the sheet 25' is employed, then in that case, the illumination passes through aperture 35', and through the translucent sheet 40 containing the pictorial illustration 36' to thereby provide a very interesting and attractive display of the desired article.

To improve the utility of the present device, it may be desirable to intermittently energize the bulb 43 to produce a flashing efiect. Any suitable electrical device may be employed for intermittently breaking the circuit, as for example, the disc 45 shown in dotted lines in Fig. 2; which is adapted for transmitting only some of the electrical pulsations of current in the manner well known in the art.

Having described my invention, reference should now be had to the claims which follow for determining the scope thereof.

I claim:

1. An advertising display device comprising a hollow enclosure open on its front side, upright inwardly directed channels upon opposite sides of said front side, an upright apertured opaque sheet slidably positioned within said channels, a series of pairs of cooperating insignia retaining and supporting clips pressed from and carried on the sheet lying in a plane projected forwardly of and parallel to the plane of said sheet, arranged throughout portions of said sheet and around the aperture therein, fiat insignia carrying elements bearing against the outside surface of said sheet with their respective edges retainingly projected within said clips, a flat article illustrating translucent sheet positioned over said aperture bearing against the outside of said sheet and supported at its edges within said clips,'and a source of illumination within said enclosure.

2. An advertising display device comprising a hollow enclosure including side and bottom walls, open on its front side, upright inwardly directed channels upon opposite sides of said front side, an upright apertured opaque sheet slidably positioned within said channels, a series of pairs of cooperating insignia retaining and supporting clips pressed from and carried on the sheet lying in a plane projected forwardly of and parallel to the plane of said sheet, arranged throughout portions of said sheet and around the aperture therein, flat insignia carrying elements bearing against the outside surface of said sheet with their respective edges retainingly projected within said clips, a flat article illustrating translucent sheet positioned over said aperture bearing against the outside of said sheet and supported at its edges within said clips, a source of illumination within said enclosure, the front edges of said side and bottom walls of said enclosure being bent normally inward and upward respectively forming outer portions of said channels, and elongated inwardly directed flanges secured to said side and bottom walls projecting inwardly in parallel spaced relation to said bent over edges defining the inner portions of said channels.
