'Application January 23, 1957, Serial No. 635,835
2 Claims. (Cl. 2-212) My invention relates to an improvement in adjustable garments and in particular to an adjustable combination of skirt and pants. My purpose is to provide a combination of skirt and pants which is suflicien-tly adjustable to enable it to meet a wide range of requirements as to size and shape. I achieve this purpose by providing means for adjusting the garment in several ways at several points, and by providing an extra skirt portion which can be readily attached to the skirt and detached from it.
The preferred embodiment of my invention is shown in the drawings, of which Fig. 1 is a partially cut away front elevational View; Fig. 2 is a sectional view on the lines 2-2 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 is a sectional view along the lines 3--3 of Fig. 1.
As shown in Fig. 1, the preferred embodiment consists of pants with at waist 11, legs 12 and 13 and a crotch 13a. The pants 10 have slits 14 and 15 extending from the waist halfway down the side. At one side of each slit are buttons 16 and on the other are button holes 17. Adjustment at the waist is accomplished by choosing the proper button and the proper button hole through which to insert it. The pants legs 12 and 13 have draw strings in the form of ribbons 18 and 19 at the bottom which can be drawn tight to secure the pants to the leg of the wearer. Between the waist 11 and the crotch 13a is a circumferential tuck 20 which consists of cloth folded back upon itself and then back again as shown in Fig. 2. The tuck 20 is held by several series of stitches 21, 22 and 23, each of which can be let out to provide a different adjustment in length. A tubular portion of cloth 30, the skirt portion, is secured by stitching to the outer surface of the inner fold of the tuck 20 to form a skirt. The portion 30 has a hem 31 as shown in Fig. 3, and secured to it by stitching at the hem is a short portion of cloth 32 with vertical slits 33. Attached to the portion 32 is a tubular portion 34 of any desired length, having vertical slits 35 superimposed on slits 33. The portion 34 is attached to the portion 32 by a ribbon 36 threaded through the slits 33 and 35. It can be readily detached or attached by removing the ribbon from or threading it through the slits 33 and 35.
I claim:
1. An adjustable garment including a pair of pants having a waist, a crotch, and a circumferential tuck be tween the waist and the crotch, the tuck being secured by a plurality of rows of stitching extending along the circumference of the tuck so that a row of stitching can be removed and the pants thereby adjusted in length between the crotch and the waist, and a skirt attached to the pants between the tuck and the crotch adjacent to and beneath the tuck.
2. An adjustable garment including a pair of pants having a waist, a crotch, and a circumferential tuck between the waist and the crotch, the tuck being secured by a plurality of rows of stitching extending along the circumference of the tuck so that a row of stitching can be removed and the pants thereby adjusted in length between the crotch and the waist, a skirt attached to the pants between the tuck and the crotch adjacent to and beneath the tuck, and means for adjusting the circumferential size of said garment including a slit at a side of the garment at the waist and a plurality of means for securing the material on one side of the slit in overlapped relation with respect to the material on the other side, said means difiering in distance from the slit.
