Description
June 23, 1959 B. F. MILLER STORAGE RACK Filed Dec. 4. 1956 INVENTOR. BENJHM/N F. MILLER STORAGE RACK Benjamin F. Miller, Darien, Cnn., assignor to Artistic Wire Products Company, Incorporated, East Hampton,
Conn., a corporation of Connecticut Application December 4, 1956, Serial No. 626,221
3 Claims. (Cl. 211-41) This invention relates to a storage rack and more particularly to a storage rack for dishes and cups.
An object of the invention is to provide a storage rack constructed of wire and having compartments for containing groups of nested dishes and portions with hooks projecting therefrom for supporting cups between the groups of dishes.
A further object is to provide such a rack which can be easily carried with the dishes and cups contained therein.
Further objects and advantages of the present invention will be more clearly understood from the following description and from the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. 1 is a side view of a rack embodying the present invention.
Fig. 2 is an end view thereof.
Fig. 3 is an isometric view of said rack.
As shown in the drawings, my improved rack is constructed of wire which is preferably coated with vinyl, or other suitable plastic material, and includes a U-shaped frame 5 having a pair of spaced U-shaped portions, the bottoms of which provide spaced parallel bars 66 having their end portions 77 bent perpendicularly thereto and with the upper portions 88 thereof bent outwardly and joined by connecting portions 9 that form handles at the opposite ends of the rack.
A pair of supporting bars 10--10 extend across the bottom of the frame and are secured upon the upper sides of the bars 66. The said supporting bars are spaced from the end portions 77 of the rack to provide a compartment in each end of the rack for receiving stacked dishes and saucers which will rest with their edges upon the bars 66.
Upon the supporting bars Ill-10 there is mounted an inverted U-shaped supporting member 11 which has the ends of its leg portions 12 secured centrally upon the supporting bars 10-10.
The top portion of the inverted U-shaped supporting member provides a bar 13 upon which there is mounted a plurality of cross-bars 14 having hooks 15-15 at the 2,891,676 Patented June 23, 1959 outer ends thereof which extend beyond the sides of the frame as clearly shown in Fig. 2.
The supporting bars 10-10 are provided with upright posts 16-16 at their opposite ends which serve for retaining dishes or saucers upon the bars 10-10.
A horizontal guard bar 17 is provided between the leg portions 12-12 of the supporting member 11 in order to prevent cups hanging from the hooks 15 from swinging against the cups at the opposite side of the rack.
In the use of my improved rack, dishes or saucers are stacked in the end compartments of the rack, between the portions 12 and 77, with the edges of said dishes resting upon the bar 6-6 and retained thereon by the upright posts 16-16. Cups may be hung on the hooks 15 and will depend therefrom between the dishes and saucers.
The entire rack when loaded may be easily and conveniently carried by means of the handles 9-9 which extend outwardly so that they are spaced from the dishes and saucers in the end compartments and thereby unobstructed for convenient grasping.
I claim:
1. A storage rack constructed of wire and including a frame comprising a pair of spaced parallel wire U-shaped members providing parallel supporting bars and upright end portions, connecting portions at the upper ends of said end portions, a pair of crossbars resting upon said parallel bars and spaced from the upright end portions, an inverted U-shaped supporting member mounted by the ends of its leg portions upon the said crossbars with said leg portions extending vertically from the crossbars and disposed centrally between the ends thereof, the upper portion of said inverted U-shaped member providing a supporting bar, a plurality of hook bars secured to said supporting bar and disposed crosswise thereto, and hook portions at the opposite ends of said hook bars.
2. A storage rack as set forth in claim 1 wherein a guard bar extends across the leg portions of the inverted U-shaped member between the supporting bar portion thereof and the crossbars.
3. A storage rack as set forth in claim 1 including upright posts at the ends of the crossbars.
