TABLE-PLATE.

Specification of Letters Patent No. 28,693, dated June 12, 1860.

To all 'whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DANIEL II. SHIRLEY, of Boston, in the county of Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pla-tes for Table Purposes, and that the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, hereinafter referred to, forms a full and exact speciication of the same, wherein I have set forth the nature and principles of my said improvements, by which my invention may be distinguished from all others of a similar class, together with such parts as I claim and desire to have secured to me by Letters Patent.

The present invention consists in forming upon the rim of a plate used for table purposes one or more depressions or receptacles for the reception of any desired articles of food such as sauces, vegetables, condiments, &c., whereby they may be kept separate from each other and all within convenient reach in one and the same dish and whereby many small plates that are now necessarily used in connection with a large one may, if desired, be dispensed with.

One form in which my improved plate may be made is represented in the accompanying drawings, of which- Figure l is a plan or top view of a plate with my improvements applied thereto.

The receptacles c, cl, e, Sac., may also be formed by means of partitions 5 on the rim of the plate raised sufliciently to form receptacles of the requisite depth.

Having thus described my improvements,

I shall state my claim as follows:

What I claim as my invention and desire 5 to have secured to me by Letters Patent is- A plate formed with one or more depressions or receptacles in its rim for the purpose specified.
