1 Claim. (Cl. 248-166) The present invention relates to a folding support for receptacles, and more particularly to a support for paste pails used by paper hangers.

An object of the present invention is the provision of a stand which is collapsible and will occupy a minimum of space when not in use.

Another object of the present invention is the provision of a stand which is light in weight and easily carried around.

A still further object of the present invention is the provision of a stand that is quickly and easily set up and taken down.

A still further object of the present invention is the provision of guard means to prevent a bucket or pail from sliding off.

A still further object of the present invention is the provision of means for locking the arms when not in use.

Other and further objects of the present invention will appear in the following specification and claim.

Figure 1 is an elevational view of the present device in folded position, a part being broken away to show the pivotal mounting for the arms.

Figure 4 is a modified view of an arm hanger in perspective and fragmentary.

Paper hangers and painters have for many years suffered the inconvenience and physical discomfort of bending over continually to get a brush full of paste or paint preparatory to applying to wall paper, to walls or woodwork. This results in time lost, both from injury to the back muscles, and the time consumed in bending over to dip a brush in a paste or paint bucket. The present invention has been developed to eliminate these objectionable movements.

Referring to the drawing the numeral represents the folding support and it comprises a body 11 of metal or other suitable material, the walls of the body being provided with pressed-in recesses 12. At the top and bottom of the body there is secured by screws or rivets 13, L-shaped elements 14 that are provided with bores 15 that receive pins 16. interposed between these elements 14 are arms 17 that are pivotally supported by the pins 16, the arms 17 at the extreme ends being provided with wide ends 18, the edge 19 serving as a retaining means for a bucket, paste pot or bucket of paint and also a leveling means. Connected to one end of each arm 17 by a pivot 20 is a leg 21 that is longer than the arm 17, the leg 21 having one end 22 disposed at an angle for a purpose to be later described.

The arms 17 and the legs 21 are held in closed position by suitable clips 23 that may be secured to the body by any suitable means, or the arms of the clips may be made integral with the body.

If desired ears 24 may be substituted for the L-shaped elements and the ears may be integral with the body or they may be secured by screws or rivets, and if secured by screws or rivets a flange would be provided.

Having described my invention, a description of its operation will now be made. When the device is to be set up for use, the legs 21 are disconnected from the clips 23, and the legs raised until the free end of the leg is opposite the recess 12, the end is inserted into the recess until the angular end 22 impinges the outer wall of the recess. When all of the arms and legs are in place, the device will appear as shown in Figure 3 of the drawings. A bucket, paste pot or paint bucket is then placed on top of the device and it is held from casual displacement by the edges 19 of the wide portion 18 of arms 17.

Having described my invention, I do not wish to be limited to the exact details, as changes may be made without departing from the scope of the invention and the claim hereto appended.

What is claimed is:

A support for containers comprising a multi-sided body having identical upper and lower end portions, recesses in each side of the body, L-shaped bracket members having transverse end surfaces encircling the top and bottom extremities of said body, the end surfaces of adjacent members being spaced and provided with aligned bores, jointed arms each comprising a support arm and a brace member, each support arm being attached by a pivot in the bores in adjacent spaced end surfaces between each pair of L-shaped members, one of said brace members being hinged to the outer end of each arm, said pivotally attached arms being selectively horizontally positioned or folded along the sides of the body, the free end of each brace member seating in a corresponding recess to hold said support arms in said horizontal position, and raised lugs on the outer ends of the support arms to prevent lateral movement of a container.
